A Leap From La Rochelle To The World

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 6 Mag 2009

orlandoRed Bull Cliff Diving Series 2009 starts on May 8th in France and will come to Italy on July 26th  Reaching an acceleration of 100 km/h, the divers only have a few seconds to coordinate their forms and movements before hitting the surface of the water. A challenge that demands self-confidence, concentration and absolute body control! Throughout the world there are no more than one hundred athletes who are seriously dedicated to one of today’s most technical and demanding sports.  An elite of twelve specialists from nine countries – among them world and national champions, world cup winners and record holders – as far as Australia (Steve Black) and the United States (Kent De Mond), Colombia (Orlando Duque, Jose Eber Pava), Russia (Artem Silchenko), Ukraine (Andrej Ignatenko, Vyacheslav Polyeshchuk), Luxembourg (Alain Kohl), Great Britain (Gary Hunt), France (Hassan Mouti and Cyrille Oumedjkane) and Czech Republic (Mikhal Navratil) is the core of the 2009 edition of the Red Bull Cliff Diving Series. In addition, wild cards were given to Jucelino Alves from Brazil and to local diver Laurent Fisher – who will reinforce the athletes’ panel for this first stage. The first of eight stops is particularly symbolic, as this is the first ever cliff diving competition held in France. La Rochelle has often led the way in the course of history. Be it the maiden dive of the first mechanically-powered submarine of the world, the “Plongeur”, or the use of electric cars. With the prospect of tens of thousands of fans, the start in La Rochelle will attract special attention for the three French divers: Hassan Mouti, Cyrille Oumedjkane and Laurent Fisher. Motivated by their public, they will try their very best to excel from the 26-meter high emblematic St. Nicolas tower – a major reference in the landscape and history of this Gallic city on the Atlantic coast.  Their main competitor and the man to beat will be Orlando Duque from Colombia – nine times world champion – who has just finished his very last training dives in front of the Andria Doria Castle in Portovenere, Italy to get ready for the first of eight competitions in a row. “Although I am happy to get a platform to compete with the very best of my sport in special locations, I feel a lot of pressure on my shoulders. I think I am well prepared, but there are a lot of well experienced and upcoming athletes on the starter list – it will definitely not become a home run.” (photo Orlando)

Una Risposta to “A Leap From La Rochelle To The World”

  1. Having read this I believed it was rather informative.
I appreciate you spending some time and energy to put this content together.
I once again find myself personally spending way too much time both reading and leaving comments.
But so what, it was still worthwhile!
