Embrace of anti-Israel campaign

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 11 marzo 2010

New York, NY The Simon Wiesenthal Center today sharply criticized the Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN) for its embrace of the Kairos Palestine Document that would mean the end of the Jewish State of Israel, as well as denies the connection of the Jewish people to its land.  In a protest to Rev. P. Verhoeff, the President of the Board of the General Synod of the PKN and to Dr. A.J. Plaisier, the General Secretary of the Board, associate dean Rabbi Abraham Cooper and Rabbi Yitzchok Adlerstein, the Center’s Director of Interfaith Affairs pointed to the Church’s endorsement of the Kairos Palestine Document that insists Israel could not be a Jewish state – that such a state would be inherently racist. “Kairos rules—and you as well by embracing it—that Christians have a sacred obligation to support the ‘underdog’ Palestinians against Israel. Kairos justifies suicide bombing and terrorism and takes absolutely no responsibility for the decades of Arab warring against Israeli civilians or the Palestinian campaign of anti-Jewish indoctrination of the next generation,” wrote the rabbis. They added that Kairos only acknowledges a Jewish connection to the land as beginning after the WWII Nazi Holocaust, willfully omitting any references to the Jews’ continuous presence over thousands of years. The Wiesenthal Center termed the Kairos document “a full frontal attack on the legitimacy, viability and existence of the State of Israel.”  The Kairos Document comes on the heels of the World Council of Churches’ Bern Initiative, which seeks to decouple any connection between today’s Jews and the Biblical narrative and the Amman Call which endorses Palestinian “right of return” to what is today the sovereign Jewish state of Israel. Kairos is also being cited by activists in the PCUSA Presbyterian Church in the US in their efforts to get the important American denomination to adopt draconian anti-Israel resolutions Center officials urged the PKN to “recall this ill-advised letter” to the Israeli Ambassador. “Like you, we will not stop praying for peace in the Middle East, for the Jewish and Palestinian peoples, a peace that will not come when all sides of the conflict can at least hear, understand, and respect the position of the Other,” the rabbis concluded.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center is an international Jewish human rights organization dedicated to preserving the memory of the Holocaust by fostering tolerance and understanding through community involvement, educational outreach and social action.  The Center confronts important contemporary issues including racism, anti-Semitism, terrorism and genocide.  The Center is accredited as a non-governmental organization both at the United Nations and UNESCO.  With a membership of over 450,000 families, the Center is headquartered in Los Angeles and maintains offices in New York, Toronto, Miami, Jerusalem, Paris and Buenos Aires.
