Amsterdam. Greenpeace International Executive Director Kumi Naidoo and founder Bill McKibben will speak at an international, interactive ‘virtual press conference’ to address the world’s most widespread day of environmental action in history, the 10/10/10 Global Work Party. The Global Work Party, initiated by and organised by Greenpeace and tcktcktck, in cooperation with hundreds of organizations around the world, unites more than 7,000 carbon-cutting events in 188 countries to send a clear message to political leaders: citizens are getting to work on climate solutions and they expect their politicians to do the same – by kick-starting an Energy [R]evolution.
Kumi Naidoo (, a key figure in the anti-poverty and civil rights movement before he joined Greenpeace in 2009, will discuss his experience in South Africa’s liberation struggle and how it relates to the climate crisis, the strength of the global climate movement and the chance the world now has for a fairer, more sustainable future.
Bill McKibben, founder of (, is an acclaimed environmental author who wrote first book on global warming for a general audience in 1989,The End of Nature. In 2009, Bill led what CNN called “the most widespread day of political action in the planet’s history.” The Global Work Party promises to be even larger.
Organizers estimate that the Global Work Party will see over 100,000 trees being planted, over 100 solar panels being installed, and hundreds of homes and buildings being weatherized. Cyclists will ride over 1,000 miles and citizens will clean up at least 500 miles of coastline. See
