La splendida cornice del salone del Grand Hotel Italiano di Benevento ha ospitato sabato 1 ottobre il convegno sul tema «Sicurezza e responsabilita’ nei lavori sui sentieri» a cura del Gruppo di Lavoro Sentieri CAI – CCE. Insieme al Gruppo di Lavoro sono intervenuti sul tema esperti del CAI delle Regioni Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige. Argomenti trattati sono state le attività per la manutenzione dei sentieri, la normativa in merito, i soggetti coinvolti, l’attività del volontario, l’informazione e la formazione, l’uso dei materiali. Contestualmente è stata allestita la mostra fotografica dal titolo “Sentieri: lavori in corso”, immagini sulla manutenzione e non solo. Nella mattinata di domenica 2 ottobre, invece, lo splendido scenario dei Parco Regionale del Matese Casertano ha ospitato la parte “pratica” del meeting. Il sentiero 150-13D, tratto del Sentiero Italia, è stato infatti percorso ed utilizzato dal Gruppo di Lavoro Sentieri e dai responsabili sezionali di sentieristica per effettuare interventi pratici e dimostrativi che hanno coinvolto i partecipanti, con l’intento di educare, specialmente i giovani soci, alla cultura del territorio ed alla manutenzione dei sentieri. Al termine dell’esercitazione tutti i partecipanti sono stati ospitati dai soci della Sezione Matesina del CAI, che presso la Capanna Sociale di Monte Orso hanno allietato i presenti con leccornie dell’eno-gastronomia matesina

Humanitarian wars and humanitarian needs?

London N1 2UT.6th October, at 7:30pm, at the INCA/CGIL meeting hall, 124 Canonbury Road, Since the Second World War we have witnessed to an escalation in the use of war despite agreements and conventions that refuse the war as means to solve controversies among and within nations. In the last two decades five wars have been fought by NATO countries in Europe, Asia and North Africa; western governments have justified these wars with humanitarian crisis which required sudden and effective intervention without lengthy discussions in national parliaments and taking into account the opposition expressed by several citizens. Were humanitarian needs fulfilled by these wars? Have these war improved the life of local populations? Is war an appropriate means to promote human rights and help those in need? The London branch of ANPI (Associazione Nazionali Partigiani d’Italia), the Italian antifascist organisation founded by partisans during World War (II), and Emergency UK, a humanitarian organization providing health care in areas affected by conflicts, have organised an event to discuss this topic with Prof Bill Bowring, from the School of Law at Birkbeck College (London), Claire Gripton, surgical nurse and recruiter for Emergency UK, and Carla Gagliardini, president of ANPI London.

NATO Chief Warns of Increasing Pirate Activity

London. In the last few days the number of pirate attacks off the coast of Somalia has increased highlighting the fact that now the monsoon is weakening, the pirates are once again ready to attack merchant ships transiting through the Indian Ocean. MC Northwood’s Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Hank Ort (NLD N) states, “in the last few years, it has been the case that come October when the South West monsoon weakens, the pirates have been able to put to sea and we have seen the number of attacks on merchant vessels increase. We are warning vessels that reports show that there are pirate groups operating already in the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Gulf of Aden. Merchant vessels should ensure that Best Management Practices are followed and that vessels continue to make it as difficult as possible for pirates to board and take control of their ships. Our Naval forces are not complacent and remain vigilant. Despite the lull in pirate attacks over the summer due to the monsoon they have continued to patrol throughout the region.” During the last week of September, there were three attacks and one approach in the Southern Red Sea (SRS), two incidents of suspicious activity in the Gulf of Aden (GOA), one incident of suspicious activity in the Arabian Sea and a disruption of a whaler Pirate Action Group (PAG) in the central Somali Basin. Increased pirate activity continued over the weekend with three ships reporting attacks on Sunday 2nd October in the Gulf of Aden, Southern Somali Basin and Arabian Sea. All three are safe having managed to repel the pirates. The ships did have security teams on board and were aware of self protection measures. Version 4 of Best Management Practices for merchant ships (BMP4) has been released and provides useful updates to masters in implementing Ship Protection Measures to deter piracy. The new publication is designed in a well-organised layout with greater clarification of terminology and procedures. The changes from BMP3 to BMP4 are based on lessons learned from ships’ masters and provide guidance on HOW to implement the recommended practices. BMP4 can be downloaded from the NATO Shipping Centre websitewww.shipping.nato.int where you will find information about the latest pirate attacks and where they occurred.
NATO has contributed to the international counter piracy effort off the Horn of Africa since December 2008. The mission has expanded from escorting UN and World Food Programme Shipping under Operation Allied Provider and protecting merchant traffic in the Gulf of Aden under Operation Allied Protector. In addition to these activities and as part of the latest mission, Operation Ocean Shield, NATO is working with other international bodies to help develop capacity of countries in the region to tackle piracy on their own.
Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 is permanently assigned to NATO. It is a multi-national Naval Group that provides the NATO Alliance with the ability to quickly respond to crisis situations anywhere in the world. A capable, stand-alone task group and one of four standing maritime elements that form a flexible core around which NATO can build a larger force to meet a wide range of missions that will include non-combatant evacuations, consequence management, counter terrorism, crisis response, embargo operations, etc.

Washington, D.C., October 4, 2011 – The U.S. Grains Council applauds the U.S. Administration in its renewed push for the passage of three pending bilateral trade agreements, including Colombia, Korea and Panama. According to government and industry estimates, the three FTAs will result in an additional $2.5 billion in additional sales and lead to the creation of over 20,000 jobs, which are critical to creating economic growth and employment for U.S. citizens. Lack of ratification has led to loss of U.S. exports and market share, as a number of foreign competitors have aggressively pursued favorable trade deals that place U.S. exporters at a competitive disadvantage. “The three trade agreements are critical components of U.S. competitiveness in the international marketplace. Once ratified, they will offer immediate duty-free or preferential treatment for U.S. coarse grains exports of and most U.S. agricultural commodities. This will not only benefit U.S. producers, but will also enhance each country’s ability to meet the needs of its growing middle class for high-quality protein products at low cost to consumers,” said Shauman.

Stonesoft Corporation emetterà l’interim report relativo al periodo gennaio-settembre venerdì 21 ottobre 2011. relativi al terzo trimestre del 2011, che si è concluso venerdì 30 settembre. In questo periodo, l’azienda ha registrato globalmente un fatturato netto superiore del 40% rispetto al corrispondente trimestre dello scorso anno, mentre le vendite hanno generato ricavi in crescita del 60% rispetto al corrispondente periodo del 2010. Questi risultati preliminari confermano le previsioni di inizio anno che stimavano una crescita del fatturato e della redditività ancora più veloce nel 2011.
