Milano: Affitti di lusso

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 4 gennaio 2012

Italiano: Milano Porta Romana le mura spagnole...

Image via Wikipedia

Tiger Optics Joins Hunt for Ghostly Neutrino Particles

Warrington, Pennsylvania.Neutrinos, the tiny particles unrecognized by man until the past century, are tantalizing in their elusiveness and promise. Scientists are constructing huge, elaborate traps in the race to observe the sub-atomic particles that may unlock secrets of our universe. Tiger Optics LLC, a leading maker of trace-gas analyzers, is contributing its expertise to the effort.Electrically neutral, a tiny neutrino can travel great distances, and at great speed, through ordinary matter. Scientists are keen to use neutrinos to explore environments-such as the Sun’s core, to name one-that cannot be probed by light or radio waves. Indeed, scientists hope to use neutrinos to deepen understanding of the fundamental laws of physics.Several particle physics laboratories, including the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois, are using Tiger Optics’ LaserTrace and Halo instruments to monitor the level of oxygen and moisture in the detector medium that such labs employ to study the ghost-like neutrino particles. One detection method involves the use of a huge vessel containing a network of detector wires surrounded by an electric field, submerged in vast quantities of liquid argon. These liquid argon time-projection chambers (LArTPC) may be located deep beneath the earth’s surface, with the intention of reducing interference from cosmic rays and background radiation.If-as a neutrino passes through the liquid argon-an interaction with an argon nucleus occurs, the interaction produces charged particles. Those particles spawn electrons that drift with the electric field until they are received by the wire network, whereupon the signals they produce can be used to produce an image and detailed 3D reconstruction of the interaction. In that process, the unwelcome presence of trace electronegative impurities-such as water and oxygen in the liquid argon, even at extremely low concentrations-has an adverse effect by intercepting the electrons before they reach the detector wires. For this reason, Tiger’s instruments are being pressed into service. Fermilab uses the company’s Halo and LaserTrace instruments to monitor the gaseous release of water from detector elements in the vapor space above the liquid argon. LaserTrace instruments are also used to monitor the oxygen level in both the argon vapor and liquid.
Tiger Optics LLC makes powerful, laser-based gas analyzers that feature and foster clean technology. The company’s instruments help manufacturers achieve faster throughput, with less waste. More than 1,000 robust Tiger units are at work in such demanding environments as semiconductor fabrication plants, gas manufacturers, chemical companies, and the metrology institutes of 13 nations. Tirat Carmel, Israel. InSightec Ltd, the global leader in MR guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) therapy, announced today that it has completed enrollment in the world’s first feasibility study evaluating the use of MRgFUS for treatment of Essential Tremor, using ExAblate® Neuro at University of Virginia , Charlottesville, Virginia. Fifteen patients underwent a non-invasive ExAblate treatment to evaluate safety and initial effectiveness of this investigational device. Most patients, who suffered for at least 10 years, experienced tremor improvement and no severe adverse events. They are being followed up for three months. Patient videos can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/sRpXno , http://bit.ly/tWaOl3ExAblate Neuro, pioneered by InSightec, combines high intensity focused ultrasound for deep accurate lesioning of the brain, with continuous realtime MR guidance for visualizing brain anatomy, planning and monitoring treatment and outcome. The lesioning is performed through an intact skull with no incisions or ionizing radiation. Additional research using MRgFUS for chronic neuropathic pain, targeted drug delivery, and sonothrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke is described in the January issue of Neurosurgical Focus devoted to MR guided focused ultrasound applications for central nervous system disorders.
Essential tremor, a very common movement disorder, affects millions of people worldwide. They have difficulty performing everyday tasks like drinking, eating, dressing, and writing. One third do not respond to medication, and may consider surgery. These have well recognized risks: high doses of ionizing radiation, complications and side effects from invasive surgery. MRgFUS was investigated as an alternative for these medically refractory patients.

London. Both the FTSE 100 and Dow were expected to make modest gains by the end of 2012, according to a survey of 100 senior representatives of investment firms. The Euro was expected to deteriorate further compared to sterling, while the US dollar would increase in value. However, the majority interviewed thought that President Obama’s government had not done enough to stimulate the economy in the US. In respect of improving business and the economy in the UK, there were calls for tax cuts both for individuals and for businesses together with the elimination of stamp duty on share purchases. A number of respondents also demanded that the government did more to simplify rules for pensions, stopped changing pension rules and improved the level of understanding of investments, particularly those which were more tax efficient, e.g. ISA’s. Those interviewed were asked to predict the best FTSE companies for capital growth in 2012. Vodafone was the most popular choice in the FTSE 100, followed closely by Barclays and BT. Balfour Beatty and Centamin Egypt featured well from selections from the FTSE 250. A wide selection of funds were also selected. These included iShares FTSE 100 and Liontrust UK for capital growth and the Artemis and MG Optimal for income.

Six Resolutions Every Expatriate Should Consider for 2012

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 4 gennaio 2012

London Wheel - London

London, January 2, 2012. Expatriates of all nationalities, wherever they are living, will probably have experienced some unpleasant ups and downs with their investments in 2011. Cast your mind back to December 2010 and analysts from UBS were forecasting the FTSE would finish 2011 at 6700, whilst Seven Investment Management went for the sinister sounding 6666. Many other brokerages forecast the UK market would finish 2011 in a range from 6200 – 6700. Actually, it finished the year at 5572, considerably adrift of the views of many of the experts. With such uncertainly stalking the London and other major global markets, Offshoreonline.org has put together six simple tips for expatiates to help them weather 2012: Get a heath check on your pension and investment portfolio. Volatile stock markets have made many worried, so clients will want to know their portfolios are well balanced and prudently invested. If all markets are going down, it is likely many portfolios will suffer, but unless you are holding good quality funds, you risk missing out on any upturn when it eventually comes. Use a UK regulated broker such as Offshoreonline.org to provide analysis and advice to both those holding a portfolio and those considering new investments.Diversify. Consider quality property. In the year to November 2011, Greater London property prices still managed to advance by 1.4% on average and with rental yields of 5% available in quality locations, that added up to a valuable combination for clever buy to let landlords.Use a property search agency to help build your portfolio though, as averages hide the detail. Whilst quality areas such as Wandsworth, Wimbledon, Westminster (up 7.1%) and others all advanced, many areas in the East of the capital which up to now may have benefitted from the Olympic effect dropped back, some by over 2%, according to search experts Expatfindaproperty.com Consider overseas property too – French real estate has weathered the storm well, particularly in areas such as the Cote D’Azur. Here good quality new homes can be purchased which make ideal rental projects with strong all year round corporate rental demand reflecting a busy conference and cultural calendar in centres such as Cannes, according to Newfrenchrivierahomes.com.

Appich Otomotiv Starts its Operation in Turkey

Wuppertal, Germany and Istanbul. Happich Otomotive is the name of the new HAPPICH subsidiary, which will start its operation at the beginning of the year as a distribution company in Gebze located 100 km east of Istanbul. The leading interior decorator for commercial vehicles is then already taking its second step into the important Turkish bus market. Since the middle of 2011, the Turkish ILERI group – as an official strategic partner – has been producing exclusively HAPPICH products using original HAPPICH tools. In addition to the familiar product quality, the company from Wuppertal also wants to ensure the best possible distribution at the Bosporus. In the past, bus manufacturers in Turkey had to purchase their HAPPICH products via a distributor, who then ordered the goods from a distribution center in the Czech Republic. Now, however, they are able to obtain their products directly from the Turkish city of Gebze – the location where the HAPPICH locking systems are already being produced in proven quality and where the new distribution company HAPPICH OTOMOTIVE is based. This not only saves distances and time but thanks to the personal contact to competent staff members of HAPPICH OTOMOTIVE, the manufacturer’s requirements can be better realized.
The new HAPPICH OTOMOTIVE can fall back on an extensive client base of bus manufacturers including many Turkish but also German companies such as Mercedes Benz or MAN, which produce in the OTOMOTIVE. “We want to continue to maintain our good customer contacts. By being on location, we are able to improve the processes and develop projects together with our customers,” says a delighted Yücel Memis, 38, the new Managing Director of the HAPPICH OTOMOTIVE. The German-Turkish Engineer with a Diplom degree in mechanical engineering has been working as a technical manager and project manager for six years for HAPPICH Germany at the headquarters in Wuppertal. Having grown up as the son of Turkish parents in Germany, he is fluent in both languages and familiar with the mentalities of both countries.

ALD to Enable Novel, High Efficiency Silicon Nanorod Solar Cells

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 4 gennaio 2012

Atomic layer deposition - powder coating reactor

Image by Argonne National Laboratory via Flickr

ESPOO, Finland Picosun Oy, Finland-based global manufacturer of state-of-the-art Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) equipment, reports successful final results of the European Union 7th Framework Programme funded research project ROD-SOL. The goal of this multinational, inter-European, three years (2009-2011) project combining the efforts of both scientific and industrial partners has been to dramatically increase the efficiency of solar cells and reduce the costs of their manufacturing. This has been achieved with novel, innovative, silicon nanorod based concept. The amount of active photovoltaic material (Si) can be significantly reduced by growing the light-trapping nanorod “forests” (thickness from < 1μm to a few μm at most) on cheaper substrates such as glass or flexible foils. This has led to already promising over 9 % energy conversion efficiencies with very good long-term stabilities of cells. Due to their effectively 3D geometry, the nanorod forests have high active surface area which enables efficient light absorption – much more efficient than in convenient 2D thin film solar cells. Also, the location of the p-n junction much closer to the surface than in normal solar cells radically improves the minority carrier charge transport and thus the amount of electricity that can be extracted from the cell.Due to the micrometer/sub-micrometer dimensions of the nanorod forests (dense packing, rod diameters typically few hundreds of nm and lengths < 1 μm) ALD has proven to be ideal technique for manufacturing some of the most crucial cell components. To prevent recombination losses in the active photovoltaic layer and thus cell efficiency decrease, a recombination barrier i.e. passivation layer needs to be coated on the rods’ surface. An ultrathin ALD-deposited Al2O3 film serves ideally this purpose, and the gas-phase, surface-controlled and self-limiting nature of the ALD process ensures that even the deepest and narrowest between-the-rods nooks and crannies will be reliably covered with 100 % uniform, conformal and pinhole- and defect-free passivation film. Another central cell component where ALD has shown its indispensability is the transparent conductive oxide (TCO) layer that works as the current collector on the top of the cell. Different TCO deposition methods were investigated in the course of the project, and ALD turned out to be the ideal method regarding both the TCO film quality and the scalability of the technique, due to Picosun’s fast, efficient and easy-to-use HVM (High Volume Manufacturing) batch ALD system, which was developed specifically during the project ROD-SOL. Picosun Oy is Finnish, globally operating manufacturer of state-of-the-art ALD systems, representing continuity to almost four decades of dedicated, exclusive ALD reactor design and manufacturing. Picosun’s global headquarters are located in Espoo, Finland, its production facilities in Masala, Kirkkonummi, and its US headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. PICOSUN™ ALD tools are chosen for production by various industries across four continents. Picosun Oy is a part of Stephen Industries Inc. Oy.

Misure sul lavoro e problemi agricoli

Italiano: Il Presidente Giorgio Napolitano con...

Image via Wikipedia

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 4 gennaio 2012

Italiano: Impianto fotovoltaico

Image via Wikipedia
