Mac masters Le Golf National

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 8 luglio 2013

Graeme McDowell won the Alstom Open de France to claim his third title of 2013 at Le Golf National before a 52,500 crowd.McDowell, who in his last eight tournaments has missed the cut five times and won the other three, carded a brilliant closing 67 at Le Golf National to finish nine under par, four clear of South Africa’s Richard Sterne, who had been only one behind until bogeys at the 16th and 17th allowed McDowell a victory march down the 18th fairway.Sterne eventually did well to par the 18th for a final round of 71 to make sure of outright second, with 2007 winner Graeme Storm and Spain’s Eduardo de la Riva a shot behind.McDowell missed the cut in last week’s Irish Open but reaped the rewards of staying on at Carton House over the weekend to work on his game, the first prize of €500,000 euros taking him within €30,000 of US Open Champion Justin Rose at the top of The Race to Dubai.”It’s very special after the last couple of months,” McDowell admitted.”It’s been a bit of a battle. It’s been a funny year. My game has not felt far away most weeks but I have missed a lot more cuts than normal and missing cuts hurts.”It certainly motivated me a lot the last few weeks. The US Open was a tough one to take and missing the cut in Ireland last week; it made me more hungry to want to be in positions like I was this afternoon.“To win a title as prestigious as the French Open over a course that I think is the best we play on The European Tour, is very special and something I will remember for a long time.”McDowell was quick to extol the virtues of Le Golf National as a Ryder Cup host venue, with the Versailles course set to host the biennal match between Europe and the United States in 2018.“It’s going to be a phenomenal venue come 2018,” he said. “I think the guys, Jean Van de Velde and his team, have done a fantastic job here. This golf course has got better and better every year and I think we are in for one of the greatest Ryder Cups of all time in a few years’ time, and I just hope I can be here for that.”

CEC to move its Secretariat from Geneva to Brussels

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 8 luglio 2013

The Conference of European Churches has approved a new constitution that makes provision for CEC to move its Secretariat from Geneva to Brussels.
In the preamble to a newly adopted constitution, the Conference of European Churches (CEC) commits itself anew “to help the European Churches to share their spiritual life, to strengthen their common witness and service, and to promote the unity of the Church and peace in the world.”The 14th Assembly of CEC in Budapest, Hungary replaced a previous CEC legal basis drafted in 1992 and last amended in 2009. Assembly delegates are representatives from the nearly 120 CEC member churches and federations of churches. The original offices that have been in Geneva, Switzerland since CEC’s founding in 1959 will be merged “as soon as possible” into the Conference’s location in Brussels, Belgium, home of the European Union and related institutions. The legal steps necessary under Swiss and Belgian law may delay the final move for two to three years; however, this is a rough estimate. It is proposed that an existing office in Strasbourg, France will continue CEC’s relations with the Council of Europe and other agencies, subject to legal and financial contingencies.A Governing Board of 20 members will replace the larger CEC Central Committee. The board will gather at least twice annually to conduct business between General Assemblies to be held every five years. The governing bodies will be led by a President and two Vice-presidents.The General Secretary will oversee daily work through the Secretariat in Brussels.Existing commissions that make up CEC will be restructured into a more unified system. Conversations will continue with the Churches’ Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME) which works closely with CEC and has considered merger with the Conference.Five days of consideration and redrafting in groups large and small culminated in the “third hearing” of the constitution throughout Sunday afternoon and evening. During this “hearing” the text literally was read aloud and projected on a screen as delegates made final amendments and adjustments. Some participants from associated organisations representing youth, women and other streams of the ecumenical movement expressed dismay at the new constitution’s approach to “Organisations in Partnership”. They voiced the suspicion that this categorization, as defined in the document, would serve to disenfranchise these groups in comparison to the role of CEC member churches.

New report: Advancing gender equality in decision-making in media organisations

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 8 luglio 2013

Women hold only 22 % of strategic decision-making posts in the public media and only 12 % in the private media organisations in the EU-27– as the research of the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) shows. ‘Increased number of women in the decision-making structures of media organisations would bring social justice, better use of talents and innovative decisions. It would also improve media content.’ – says Virginija Langbakk, Director of the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE).EIGE’s new report ‘Advancing gender equality in decision-making in media organisations presents for the first time reliable and comparable EU-wide data on women and men in decision making in the media sector. The report will support policymakers and all relevant institutions in their efforts to achieve gender equality.EIGE’s report points out that the organisational culture within media structures remains largely masculine, despite the fact that women considerably outnumber men in university-level education in this field and constitute nearly half the workforce within the media industry. Women continue to be significantly underrepresented in decision-making structures, both at operational levels as senior managers and at strategic levels, as chief executive officers and board members of major media organisations across the EU Member States. There is a significant difference between the private and public media sectors. In public media organisations the ratio of women to men occupying strategic decision-making position is only 1 in 5, whereas in private media organisations it decreases to only 1 in 10. Within the decision-making boards of media organisations women represent only 25% of all members.Internal equality policies for gender balance in decision makingDespite the fact that organisations implementing gender equality policies and measures are more likely to have a higher proportion of women in strategic decision-making positions, EIGE’s research shows that gender-equality plans, diversity policies and codes of conduct exist only in around a quarter of the surveyed media organisations. Only few organisations have formal mechanisms in place to monitor their gender equality policies. Sixteen percent of the surveyed organisations have a committee responsible for equality-policy issues, 14 % have an equality/diversity officer and 9 % an equality/diversity department. In general, public media organisations are more likely than private ones to have a gender equality policy, code or measure in place.Self-regulation has been the main strategy for the media industry. ‘Many politicians have been reluctant to take action concerning gender equality in the media because there is a risk that it could be seen as a form of censorship or a way of limiting freedom of expression, if the media industry becomes more regulated. On the other hand, it is time to think whose freedom of expression is being protected or hampered. Until now news agendas have been mostly about men for men.’ says Dr Maria Edstrm, expert on women and the media from the University of Gothenburg.More women in the media – to shape gender-equal society
Based on EIGE’s report, the Council of the European Union has adopted conclusions on ‘Advancing Women’s Roles as Decision-Makers in the Media’ and took note of the first indicators for monitoring the implementation of the area of Women and the Media of the Beijing Platform for Action within the EU Member States. In line with the findings presented in EIGE’s report, the Council calls on the Member States and the European Commission to take active measures to foster gender equality at all levels, including women’s advancement in decision-making roles in the media industry. The Council also calls for enhancing awareness of gender equality within the media sector and the exchange of good practices between Member States in this area, which will support the process of achieving a gender-equal society.

Going Green The New Business Model for Las Vegas

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 8 luglio 2013

The Las Vegas Strip is known for its opulence, glamour and glitz, for being an adult playground, home to the world’s best known casinos, but now it becoming known for being green and where not being wasteful is a key part of the City’s business model. Sin City has been reinventing itself and is has become a model town of sustainability.Las Vegas is struggling to meet the water and energy demands of its 500,000 plus residents, which excludes the 40 million tourists who visit every year. Nevada is one of seven states that is dependent on the over-stretched Colorado River for its water supply, which is one of the most heavily plumbed and litigated river systems in the world. It is a critical reservoir for tens of millions of agricultural and municipal users from Wyoming to the Mexican border. The river is now in a very serious condition and the death of the river system will have huge implications for every resident, visitor and business in Las Vegas. As a result the casinos have devised practical methods of saving water. At Caesars, water conservation is integral to its Code Green environmental strategy and it has installed aerators in the sink and shower heads to minimise water flow and low flush toilets that use just 1.28 gallons per flush compared to the standard 1.6 gallons. The Palazzo has been innovative with its water conservation and has accessed the underground stream that runs beneath Las VegasBoulevard. The water in this stream has been put through a nano-filtration system that makes it safe for irrigation purposes on the property; this has helped save around 5m gallons of water a year.

A margine di un incontro

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 8 luglio 2013

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 8 luglio 2013

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 8 luglio 2013
