Bernhard Knaus Fine Art, Frankfurt

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 23 agosto 2013

Bernhard KnausFlo Maak (b. 1980) studied at the Frankfurt Städel School with Wolfgang Tillmans and Willem de Rooij. Since early 2013 he is visiting professor for art photography at Chung-Ang University, Seoul, South Korea.
Seascapes as images of the sea usually depict the unsteadiness of ships at sea often with no reference to land. This transient state of a solid body shown at the surface of a solid framed painting – or the juxtaposition of fixed and liquid, form and formlessness – is the pervasive theme of Flo Maak’s second solo exhibition at Bernhard Knaus Fine Art in Frankfurt. The show includes new collages and photographs, as well as a series of “Displaced displays” that are all related to the central installation entitled “Surface Interference Study (after Courbet)”. This installation consists of a collection of so-called “Shopper-Stopper”, double sided A-boards, which are set up to form an abstract model of a wave. On each side of the room dividing line-up, a monitor is mounted into an A-board, on which a camera pans across details of Gustave Courbet waves pictures. These monitors show the surf waves as if being carved out of stone, while the shore appears as liquefied. This dialectic between dissolution and materialization which characterizes the sea both as actual place and metaphor permeates all other works gathered in the exhibition. In a booklet published on the occasion of this show the philosopher Daniel Loick describes this subject as follows: “Maak points out a conflict that Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari have called the game between territorialization and deterritorialization. The process of turning an undefined area into a classifiable, predictable and controllable terrain is never fully completed, and not determinable, but remains a battle of the order of antecedent forces of disorganization and decomposition.” (Bernhard Knaus)

Comment by Sarwant Singh, Frost & Sullivan, on Lexus Announcing the Opening of a Luxury Brand Experience Space in Tokyo

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 23 agosto 2013

London “The future of car retailing is very much omni-channel, eRetailing and creating a digital experience. The role of dealerships therefore, needs to evolve to create a unique customer experience when they visit them.Audi has been one of the first to respond with the AudiCity concept that will be rolled out to over 20 cities. Similarly, Daimler and BMW have also taken a lead in opening flag ship stores in major cities like Paris and London. BMW will even sell the new i3 through the internet. Japanese luxury brands on the other hand have so far lagged behind the German premium brands, and they are now fast catching up.All major retail industries have evolved to embrace the new omni channel strategy. We have seen the disappearance of major retail stores like Borders in US and Comet and Woolworths in the UK. The question is how long before this trend impacts the car industry which has huge investments in brick and mortar retailing.Lexus seems to have gone more for a brand experience centre creating a fusion of art, fashion and culture within a store. This seems like a contrary move when compared to Audi, which has gone for a digital customer experience and which is something we expect more in the future from OEMs. It is understandable however, if you see customer satisfaction statistics. Lexus always comes out on top in the US for being the best in class brand for delighting the customer experience at the dealership. They seem to be taking it to the next level. “Sarwant Singh is Senior Partner and Global Practice Director Automotive & Transportation at Global Growth Consultants Frost & Sullivan.

Beverly Hills, California .Julien’s Auctions, the world’s premier celebrity and entertainment memorabilia auction house, announced the exclusive auction of property from the life and career of the first lady of stand-up comedy, Phyllis Diller on Sunday, September 22, 2013. The pop culture icon and comedian was known for decades for her self-deprecating humor. In the 1960s her fame skyrocketed appearing on several of Bob Hope’s television specials, USO tours and three movies. Her signature blonde wig, long cigarette holder and loud cackling laugh has yet to be duplicated giving her a place in comedic history as the very first female trailblazer of her time. Her jokes and gags played off of a persona of dreadful cook and eccentric, disheveled housewife to “Fang,” her imaginary husband. In real life, Diller was very attractive and once was photographed for Playboy magazine, although the photos never went to print. The auction will include extraordinary costumes, wigs and jewelry from her professional stage and television appearances, together with outstanding antiques, artwork, and memorabilia from her longtime residence on South Rockingham Avenue in Los Angeles. Diller’s outlandish trademark props are well represented in this auction which includes her hilariously funny and wild wigs, jeweled dog collars, feather boas, gloves, cigarette holders, ankle boots, colorful housecoats, and chunky costume jewelry. Many items representative of the fruitful alliance she had when collaborating with Bob Hope are also included. These highlights include a camel colored coat and dress ensemble that Phyllis Diller wore to the Bob Hope Airport dedication ceremony (estimate $1,000-2,000), a black chiffon dress ensemble worn by Phyllis Diller to the Bob Hope Memorial Tribute at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (estimate $600-800), a half-length portrait of Bob Hope from the eponymous “Bob Hope Salon” in Diller’s Brentwood estate and numerous photographs, documents, and mementos from their long friendship. It is a story of Hollywood’s golden era of comedy, representative of two of the most famous names to ever capture the hearts of audiences around the globe. Other highlighted costumes and accessories from Diller’s stage performances and television work include: a velvet robe worn on The Love Boat (estimate $800-1,200); a performance worn pink sequined dress (estimate $800-1,200); and many of Diller’s Omar of Omaha dresses designed, in reality, by Gloria Johnson including the dress worn on The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour ($600-800) during a discussion of marriage with Cher; along with Diller’s costume wigs, jewelry and footwear (various estimates). Personal clothing including designer dresses worn for events and award shows include Christian Dior ($600-800), Guy Laroche ($600-800), Versace ($600-800) and others. As Diller’s success rose to soaring heights, so did her ability to collect and purchase nice things. She bought a beautiful estate in tony Brentwood, California and decorated it with many items once belonging to Marjorie Merriwether Post. Antiques and furniture highlights in this sale include a Kashan Persian rug (estimate $60,000-80,000), a Georgian style mahogany secretary breakfront (estimate $25,000-35,000), multiple lots of fine china dish sets and Bohemian cut crystal stemware, and a Reed & Barton sterling flatware service in the Florentine Lace pattern (estimate $6,000-8,000). Also featured is an Andy Warhol colored screenprint, “Cow,” signed and inscribed H.B. P.D. (Happy Birthday Phyllis Diller) Love Andy Warhol (estimate ($4,000-6,000).
Additionally, this auction includes a number of pianos played by Diller, an accomplished concert pianist, and many selections of paintings and prints from her own secondary career as studio painter. Highlights include a black lacquer Chickering Grand Pianoforte, signed “Phyllis Diller” in silver marker pen (estimate $10,000-15,000), a custom made Cannon Guild Harpsichord (estimate $5,000-10,000), and an oil on canvas painting of a stage with curtains and a shining spotlight from the foyer of her house (estimate: $2,000-$3,000). It was this painting in which she had each houseguest pose in front of upon entry to her home. Awards, personal mementos, photographs, scripts, handwritten letters, personal clothing and other remarkable collectibles from Diller’s life and career are included in this auction. Her personal artwork which was very much a reflection of her soul and her bright, whimsical approach to life are included amongst the highlights.
Diller was born Phyllis Ada Driver in Lima, Ohio in 1917. She had six children with her first husband, Sherwood Diller, whom she married in 1939. She later married Warde Donovan in 1965, only a month after divorcing Diller. The second marriage lasted 10 years. Her very first stand-up comedy appearance was as a contestant on Groucho Marx’s show “You Bet Your Life” in 1957. She hosted her own variety show on NBC, had a run on Broadway and created several comedy albums. She officially retired from comedy in 2002 and focused on her creative passion, which was painting. It was Phyllis Diller who became one of the worlds most adored female comics whose accomplishments open doors for generations of women entertainers who followed. She died in August of 2012 at the age of 95.

Miami Home Sales, Prices Continue to Surge

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 23 agosto 2013

Miami, FL – In July, number of sales and prices of Miami properties continued to surge amid tight supply, generating rapid sales and offers close to asking price, according to the 29,000-member MIAMI Association of REALTORS and the local Multiple Listing Service (MLS) system.Single-family home sales again surged in July, up 27.3 percent from 964 a year earlier to 1,227 this July. This is the highest monthly number of sales for single-family homes in Miami-Dade since the height of the boom in 2005. Condominium sales increased 13.4 percent, up from 1,356 in July 2012 compared to 1,538 last month. Nationally, sales of existing single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums, and co-ops increased 6.5 percent from June and were 17.2 percent higher than they were in July 2012, according to the National Association of Realtors. Statewide closed sales of existing single-family homes totaled 20,632 in July, up 17.5 percent compared to the year-ago figure, according to data from Florida Realtors Industry Data and Analysis department in partnership with local Realtor boards/associations.July’s figures mark 20 consecutive months of appreciation for both single-family homes and condominiums in Miami. The median sales price of single-family homes spiked 25.7 percent to $230,000 year-over-year and remained the same compared to the previous month. The median sales price of condominiums, which has significantly increased each of the last 25 months, jumped 33.3 percent to $180,500 compared to a year earlier but declined 2.7 percent compared to the previous month.Compared to July 2012, the average sales price for single-family homes in Miami-Dade County increased 24.9 percent to $406,532, while the average sales price for condominiums increased 20.9 percent to $323,338.The national median existing-home price for all housing types was $213,500 in July, a 13.7 percent increase from July 2013, according to NAR. The statewide median sales price for single-family existing homes last month was $179,500, up 20 percent from the previous year, while that of townhouse-condo properties was $129,000, up 22.9 percent over the previous year.Miami properties that are priced right are selling very quickly and yielding very high percentage of asking price. In July, the median days on the market for single-family homes and condominiums were 35 and 45 respectively, reflecting sales at a very rapid pace. The average percent of original list price received was 96.1 percent for single-family homes and 97.1 percent for condominiums.Active listings at the end of July increased 0.8 percent, from 12,547 to 13,583, compared to July 2012. Despite the slight increase in inventory, current active inventory remains insufficient to satisfy intense demand for Miami properties. Inventory of single-family homes increased 0.6 percent to 5,125 active listings, while that of condominiums increased 13.5 percent to 8,458 active listings. At the current sales pace, there is 4.9 months of supply of single-family homes and 6.0 months of supply of condominiums in Miami-Dade, representing a decrease of 14.2 percent and an increase of 5.6 percent respectively compared to year-ago levels.
Total housing inventory nationally increased 5.6 percent at the end of July but remains 5.0 percent below year-ago levels, representing a 5.1-month supply. In July, only 35.4 percent of all closed residential sales in Miami-Dade County were distressed, including REOs (bank-owned properties) and short sales, compared to 47.3 percent in June 2012. Nationally, distressed homes again accounted for 15 percent of July sales. The median sales price of single-family home and condominium foreclosures in Miami-Dade increased 9.3 percent to $147,000 and 27.8 percent to $115,000 respectively. In Miami-Dade County, 60 percent of total closed sales in July were all-cash sales compared to 63.5 percent in July 2012. All-cash sales accounted for 43.3 percent of single-family home and 73.6 percent of condominium closings, compared to a year ago when cash sales were 44 percent and 77.4 percent of closed sales respectively. Since nearly 90 percent of foreign buyers in Florida purchase properties all cash, this reflects the much stronger presence of international buyers in the Miami real estate market. By comparison all-cash sales nationally accounted for 31 percent of transactions in July, down from 33 percent the previous month and 29 percent in July 2012.

Crisi in Siria

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 23 agosto 2013

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 23 agosto 2013
