Lucca Center of Contemporary Art Via della Fratta, 36. Sull’onda del successo della mostra fotografica “Elliott Erwitt. Retrospective”, il Lu.C.C.A. – Lucca Center of Contemporary Art ha deciso di prorogare di due settimane l’esposizione del grande fotografo americano. Molte erano state le richieste del pubblico per il prolungamento di questa retrospettiva che dopo la tappa lucchese sarà esposta in Russia. Ci sarà quindi la possibilità di vedere le 136 opere che compongono una panoramica esaustiva del lavoro di Erwitt fino al 13 settembre 2015. Posticipata sempre fino al 13 settembre anche la mostra “Life Codes” dell’artista toscano Rudy Pulcinelli ospitata nel Lu.C.C.A Lounge&Underground che è a ingresso libero (da martedì a domenica ore 10-19). Giudizi molto positivi anche per i suoi quadri-scultura e istallazioni site-specific che ormai stanno facendo il giro del mondo. Pulcinelli al momento si trova infatti a Pechino per lavorare ad un progetto all’interno della famosissima Factory 798 che ospita studi di importanti artisti internazionali e musei. Sergio Vieira de Mello award 2015

(Geneva) – The 2015 Sergio Vieira de Mello Prize will be awarded to the Interfaith Peace Platform for the work achieved to reconcile religious groups in the hope of reaching a lasting peace in Central African Republic (CAR), a country devastated by a war between fractions.The Award ceremony will take place on 19 August 2015 during the events marking World Humanitarian Day at the Palais des Nations, Room XX, at 17:30. The founders of the Interfaith Peace Platform will be present.
It is in Sergio Vieira de Mello’s memory and to perpetuate his ideal that the Foundation attributes every two years an award to an individual, group or an organization having done something special and unique to reconcile people and parties in conflict. Sergio, UN Secretary General representative, was killed in the UN compound bombing in Bagdad on 19 August 2003. The Interfaith Platform promotes dialogue as a preventive measure against religious violence and a means to pursue peace across CAR. It was established in 2013 by representatives of the three most important religions in the country, the Catholic Archbishop of Bangui, Mgr. Dieudonné Nzapalainga, the President of the Islamic Council in CAR, Imam Oumar Kobine Layama and by the President of the Evangelical Alliance, Pastor Nicolas Guérékoyaméné-Gbangou. In the middle of the war, the three religious leaders agreed to act together to address the growing unrest in the Central Africa Republic. Since then they continue to persuade Muslims, Catholics and Protestants to avoid further violence and revenge among their religious communities. They travel extensively throughout the country, visiting cities and villages and talking to the communities about peace, mutual respect, tolerance and trust. In addition, their international lobby has led to the unanimous decision of the Security Council to establish a UN Peace Keeping force in CAR, MINUSCA. Ravaged by violence, the Central African Republic, a country at the heart of Africa, has experienced the worst crisis in its history. Manipulating religion for political purposes in the country has caused the death of hundreds of thousands of people and sent many more on the roads to exile and displacement. The heads of Catholic and Muslim and Protestant communities have been working together tirelessly to restore the social fabric of their country by addressing the root causes of mistrust in remote villages.“The Interfaith Peace Platform shows what it takes during a crisis to bring a country together across the social, cultural and religious divides”, said Laurent Vieira de Mello, president of the Sergio Vieira de Mello Foundation. “The Interfaith Peace Platform serves as a model much needed in other countries in conflict and shows that prevention and dialogue are the key for solving refugee and displacement crises.”

Islamic Climate Declaration calls for fossil fuel phase out

Istanbul, Islamic leaders from 20 countries today launched a bold Climate Change Declaration to engage the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims on the issue of our time.Adopted by the 60 participants at the International Islamic Climate Change Symposium, (Istanbul, 17-18 August) the Declaration urges governments to deliver a strong, new international climate agreement in Paris this December that signals the end of the road for polluting fossil fuels by creating architecture that will give us a chance of limiting global warming above pre-industrial levels to 2, or preferably 1.5, degrees Celsius.The Declaration presents the moral case, based on Islamic teachings, for Muslims and people of all faiths worldwide to take urgent climate action. It was drafted by a large, diverse team of international Islamic scholars from around the world following a lengthy consultation period prior to the Symposium. It has already been endorsed by more than 60 participants and organisations including the Grand Muftis of Uganda and Lebanon. The Declaration is in harmony with the Papal Encyclical and has won the support of the Pontifical Council on Justice and Peace of the Holy See.The Declaration calls for a rapid phase-out of fossil fuels and a switch to 100% renewable energy as well as increased support for vulnerable communities already suffering from climate impacts. It can be seen as part of the groundswell of people from all walks of life calling for governments to scale up the transition away from fossil fuels. Wealthy and oil-producing nations are urged to phase out all greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. All people, leaders and businesses are invited to commit to 100% renewable energy in order to tackle climate change, reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development.Amongst keynote speakers at the Symposium were three senior UN officials – from the UN Environment Programme, the secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the UN Secretary-General’s climate change team. Presentations were also made by scientists, NGO leaders and academics. Also attending were religious leaders from many other faith traditions.That the Symposium was held in Istanbul is significant – for the first time in history, the G20 summit will be organized by the presidency of Turkey, a country with a majority Muslim population.- just two weeks before the Paris Summit, Leaders from the world’s largest 20 economies will gather in an attempt to reach agreement on how international financial stability can be achieved. The economic implications of climate change and the huge amounts of subsidies given by G20 countries to the polluting fossil fuel industry will also be on the agenda.

Potential threats to Europe may not stop reductions in US forces

It can be argued that American troops on the continent are as important for transatlantic security today as they were during the Cold War (1947-1991), albeit for different reasons.What has not changed is Europe’s geopolitical significance. From the Arctic to the Maghreb, from the Caucasus to the Levant, the continent borders on some of the most important conflict areas in the world.The stationing of substantial United States forces helped underwrite the stability Europe needed to achieve economic prosperity after World War II. From Washington’s point of view, there are still benefits to be gained from having a robust, flexible military force there.

L’Università di Parma ottava nella classifica “Roars”

È di tutto rispetto la posizione ottenuta dall’Università di Parma nella classifica degli Atenei stilata dalla rivista on line “Roars”: un ranking dell’efficienza nel quale Parma figura all’ottavo posto, lasciandosi alle spalle istituzioni di enorme prestigio internazionale come Oxford e Berkeley. Quella di “Roars” è una classifica che basandosi su quella pubblicata ogni anno a Ferragosto dalla Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Arwu), nella quale gli Atenei italiani si collocano solo dopo il 150° posto su 500, valuta l’efficienza reale delle università. “Roars”, mettendo a confronto le prime 20 Università della classifica Arwu con le 20 italiane che vi figurano, misura i risultati sulla base della spesa: da qui il nuovo ranking, guidato dalla Scuola Normale superiore di Pisa, e nel quale 11 dei primi 15 atenei sono italiani. L’Università di Parma è ottava: dopo la Normale di Pisa, Ferrara, Trieste, Milano Bicocca, Cambridge, Pisa e Princeton, e prima di Pavia, Perugia, Milano, Oxford, Torino, Politecnico di Milano e Berkeley.Da questa analisi si evince quanto il sistema universitario sia sottofinanziato e quanto efficienti siano gli atenei di casa nostra, pur con le poche risorse che a livello statale sono messe a loro disposizione. Ciò testimonia il valore dell’impegno e del lavoro delle persone che negli atenei operano e la qualità delle attività di didattica e di ricerca, troppo spesso sottovalutate.

Libia: Intervento militare?

“Un intervento militare in Libia non sortirebbe gli effetti sperati, dal momento che non vi sono le condizioni politiche. Intanto, all’Italia nel rapporto tra i due Governi di Tobruk e Tripoli serve pragmatismo: inserirsi nella contesa da parte nostra sarebbe un grave errore”. A dirlo è Paolo Alli, Capogruppo Area Popolare (Ncd-Udc) in Commissione Affari Esteri e Vice Presidente dell’Assemblea Parlamentare della Nato, in una intervista al quotidiano Avvenire.”Nell’elaborazione del documento con Francia, Germania, Spagna, Gran Bretagna e Stati Uniti, – continua Alli – l’Italia ha avuto un ruolo importante, forse decisivo. Però, se da un lato la comunità internazionale riconosce oggi solo il governo democraticamente eletto di Tobruk, dall’altro bisogna anche stare attenti a non lasciare il governo di Tripoli nelle mani dell’Is. Occorre cercare nella lotta ai terroristi un terreno comune tra Tobruk e Tripoli. Anche per evitare che la Libia, finora fertile terreno di propaganda per il Califfato possa diventare un luogo dove le tante cellule terroristiche trovino una saldatura. Per questo si deve fare in fretta”.

Tasse: Altri possibili aumenti

«Renzi aveva annunciato meno tasse e meno spesa pubblica. Dati alla mano, il Centro Studi di Unimpresa dimostra che nel 2015 è accaduto esattamente il contrario: aumento delle entrate tributarie e della spesa pubblica di 18 miliardi di euro rispetto al 2014. E, dato ancora più grave, questo Governo aumenta le spese correnti e diminuisce quelle per investimenti e opere pubbliche. Come se non bastasse, è allo studio dell’Esecutivo l’introduzione di una “local tax”, che rischia di essere l’ennesima stangata per gli italiani. Altro che rottamazione: il Governo Renzi-Alfano si dimostra degno erede del volto peggiore della Prima Repubblica».È quanto scrive su Facebook il presidente di Fratelli d’Italia, Giorgia Meloni.

Libri scolastici: Siano le scuole ad acquistarli

I libri di testo costano sempre di piu’? Una soluzione ci sarebbe, e non e’ certo quella di criminalizzare gli editori, che fanno il loro mestiere cercando di trarre il massimo profitto dalla loro attività: siano gli istituti scolastici ad acquistare i libri di testo e a distribuirli agli studenti, i quali a fine anno li restituiranno per gli studenti dell’anno successivo. Se i libri vengono danneggiati, lo studente paga per ripararli oppure riacquistarli.
In questo modo, non sarebbero soltanto gli editori a stabilire i prezzi, ma anche gli istituti scolastici, che avrebbero maggior potere contrattuale rispetto al singolo studente. Inoltre, il costo di un libro di testo sarebbe ripartito tra più studenti, in quanto quel testo verrebbe utilizzato per alcuni anni. Gli editori sarebbero infine disincentivati dal produrre una nuova edizione ogni anno con l’intento di evitare il “riciclaggio” dei libri usati, perche’ le scuole probabilmente non comprerebbero nuovi libri ed edizioni per diversi anni.
Questa e’ la soluzione adottata dal sistema educativo pubblico degli Stati Uniti, dove il primo giorno di scuola ogni studente, dalle elementari alle superiori, riceve gratuitamente i libri di testo.
Per ultimo, visto che i libri di testo rappresentano la maggiore spesa che le famiglie devono affrontare per mandare i propri figli alla scuola dell’obbligo, riusciremmo a rendere effettivo l’articolo 34 della Costituzione, laddove prevede che almeno l’istruzione inferiore sia gratuita oltre che obbligatoria.
