Expert comment on Huawei’s revenue increasing by 70% in 2015 to $20bn

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 8 gennaio 2016

Mark Skilton, of Warwick_Business_School_Scarman_road_viewsaid: “Huawei has jumped from an unknown Chinese company ranked sixth in the world to the fastest growing smartphone seller. Over the last year Huawei has had an impressive 50% sales growth compared to 27% by Apple, while it has also seen tablet sales rise by nearly 75 per cent.”Samsung’s global mobile phone market share is 25%, but that has been falling, while Apple has 11% followed by Huawei at 7% in third, but it is catching up.”This has been due to a cultural shift made by the company towards, what the CEO described last year in its European conference in Zurich, as a new way of thinking. No longer is Huawei a telecoms network ‘pipe’, delivering in the main broadband. It sees itself as a digital business focused on customer service. “This has meant a stronger focus on its customer experience management strategy and a big investment in marketing, a Western very customer-focused approach. It is not just about the product, the Chinese company is an excellent seller. “In a crowded, price-sensitive android market this matters greatly, where mobile choice and brand awareness are critical. Huawei is a prime example of a modern commercial company mindset emerging from Chinese industries. It is engaging with customers in the local markets directly, hence its successful sponsorship in sport, with deals with football clubs like Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan to differentiate itself. “The mobile market is so competitive, success is looking after the customer, and Huawei is managing to do that and is reaching the android buyers. It realises that in the digital economy understanding and talking to the customer first is critical and it follows this up with very strong customer service.”The question is how competitors and existing players need to respond and engage the consumer mobile market that is now all about customer service and no longer just about the product.”

Adozione maggiorenni. Ricorso alla Corte di Strasburgo contro normativa italiana

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 8 gennaio 2016

Expert comment on trading suspended on the Chinese stock market

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 8 gennaio 2016

pechinoKamel Mellahi, of Warwick Business School, is a Professor of Strategic Management and researches business in China comment on trading suspended on the Chinese stock market. Professor Kamel Mellahi said: “The efficacy of the circuit breaker is questionable in a highly volatile environment driven by a herd mentality. It does not seem to be having the expected effect. It looks like it’s generating more panic rather than a pause for reflection and objective assessment. “Chinese policymakers are stuck between a rock and a hard place and have no easy solutions. The yuan has risen against its major global currencies, chiefly because it was pegged against the US dollar, making Chinese exports more expensive.”Using currency depreciation to stimulate growth is a double-edged sword. A weaker yuan will help boost the country’s sagging exports and help economic growth, but it will also increase the risk of capital flight out of China, making investment in the stock market less attractive, and increase the cost of imports. “The Chinese economy is going through a very delicate transition which requires a lot of difficult adjustments. Therefore these wild swings in the Chinese stock markets are expected and investors have to get used to them. The Chinese stock markets are set for choppy waters and share prices will continue to see-saw as China seeks to recalibrate its economy while keeping economic growth on track.
“Retail investors, which account for a large portion of stock market trade in China, are not in it for the long haul and are prone to panic. It is to be expected that they react to short-term blips about the health of the Chinese economy. A weaker yuan also makes it unattractive for them to own shares. I think we are going to see more of these stampede type sell-offs driven by a herd mentality in the months to come.”The volatility in the Chinese stock markets may have some short-term impact on global stock markets, but in the medium and long-term the impact is going to be felt mainly in China.”I expect the Chinese government to intervene strongly and publicly to prop up share prices. This will undermine its pledge to let market mechanisms have more influence, but perhaps more importantly, it needs to focus on the management of economic reforms to rebalance its economy. One needs to keep in mind that the stock market fluctuations harm the reputation of the Chinese economy but they are not a true reflection of the Chinese economy.”

Record Participation as MIAMI Realtors Meet with Legislators in Tallahassee

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 8 gennaio 2016

MIAMI — The nation’s largest local Realtor organization will bring nearly 100 members, an association record, to Tallahassee to discuss significant legislative issues impacting the South Florida real estate market. The representatives of the 41,000-member MIAMI Association of REALTORS® (MIAMI) will meet with state legislators Jan. 12-13 during the 46th annual Great American Realtor Days.MIAMI will address four major legislative issues in Tallahassee. The MIAMI Association of REALTORS® and Florida Realtors want legislators to cut the business rent sales tax by 1 percent, cap the fees charged by community associations for estoppel certificates, increase funding for affordable housing and restore water resources while protecting property rights.“Bringing this large of a contingent to Great American Realtor Days is a testament to our members’ desire to make a difference on key legislative issues,” said Danielle Blake, MIAMI’s Senior Vice President of Government Affairs & Housing. “Not only will we meet with the local delegation, but we will also meet Department of Businesmiamis and Professional Regulation Secretary Ken Lawson. The trip occurs as Florida Realtors celebrates its 100th anniversary and honors 2016 President Matey H. Veissi, a longtime MIAMI member who helped create and charter our association’s International Council.”
MIAMI, which employs two full-time government affairs executives, typically brings 20 to 25 members to Great American Realtor Days. This year, the association wanted to have a larger group to celebrate Florida Realtors’ 100th anniversary and the start of Veissi’s presidency.Instead of bringing all 100 members to each legislative meeting, MIAMI will make the experience more significant and powerful for Miami-Dade County legislators. This year, each MIAMI member traveling to Tallahassee will meet with their respective state senator and state representative. MIAMI members from Miami-Dade, Monroe, Broward, Martin and Palm Beach counties will have an opportunity to discuss issues with their respective state political leaders.The Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation has 24 members: six state senators and 18 state representatives, representing the largest and most populated county in Florida.The entire MIAMI contingent will discuss Realtor licensing fees and other issues with Lawson on Jan. 13. The Department of Business and Professional Regulation regulates more than one million license holders and on an average issues 2,000 real estate licenses each month.Cutting the business rent sales tax by 1 percent is one of MIAMI’s top legislative priorities this year. Florida is the only state in the country that charges a sales tax on business rent, which creates a financial burden for businesses leasing space. MIAMI supports Senate Bill 116 by Sen. Dorothy Hukill (R-Port Orange) and House Bill 247 by Rep. Heather Fitzenhagen (R-Fort Myers).
MIAMI also wants legislators to cap the fees charged by community associations for estoppel certificates. Florida law allows associations to charge a “reasonable” fee to prepare an estoppel certificate. Some associations, however, charge as much as $1,000 for this payoff letter. SB 722/HB 203 from Rep. Kelli Stargel (R-Lakeland) and Rep. John Wood (R-Winter Haven) are almost identical to legislation that nearly passed last session.Affordable housing is another key statewide issue. MIAMI and Florida Realtors want state legislators to increase funding for the Sadowski Affordable Housing Programs. Last year, the Legislature allocated $175 million toward the housing trust funds, the highest funding level in eight years.Lastly, Florida needs to restore its water resources while protecting property rights. Sen. Charlie Dean (R-Inverness) and Rep. Matt Caldwell (R-Lehigh Acres), sponsors of SB 552 and HB 7005, have written bills with comprehensive statewide policy that addresses key aspects of water management, water quality and water supply.“We hope to make a compelling impact with local House Representatives and State Senators by showing up in numbers and expressing our views on these important issues,” said Mark Sadek, the 2016 MIAMI Chairman of the Board. “These issues are critical to real estate professionals, the buying and selling public and communities throughout the region and state.”

TTIP and German opinion’s legitimate fears

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 8 gennaio 2016

berlinoGermany is one of the member states in which public opinion is the most sceptical towards the Transatlantic trade and investment partnership (TTIP) negotiations launched over two and a half years ago. Regulatory cooperation and the question of investor-state dispute settlement are notable areas of public worry.This synthesis written by Elvire Fabry, senior research fellow at the Jacques Delors Institute, takes the principal elements of the debate organised in the German capital on 28 September 2015 by our office in Germany, the Jacques Delors Institut – Berlin, in order to shed light on the objectives pursued by the EU, the methods used and the conditions for democratic control.
The debate was attended in particular by Sigmar Gabriel, Germany’s Minister for EconomicAffairs and Energy, Matthias Fekl, the French Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, and PascalLamy, the former Director-General of the WTO and current President Emeritus of the Jacques DelorsInstitute, along with representatives of the European Commission and Parliament and experts in trade policy, international public law and investment. Priorities of the Dutch Presidency Debate with Commissioner Avramopoulos

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 8 gennaio 2016

european parliamentNew rules to ensure that children who are suspected or accused of a crime are able to understand and follow the proceedings, to enable them to exercise their right to a fair trial, to prevent re-offending and foster their social integration were provisionally agreed by Parliament and Council negotiators on Tuesday evening. An estimated one million children come into formal contact with the police and judiciary in the EU each year (i.e. 12% of the total EU population facing criminal justice). However, their legal protection varies from country to country.”This agreement between the European Parliament and the Council is an important step in the creation of a European judicial area and in the development of a fairer and more effective model of juvenile justice, also in view of the social reintegration and prevention of recidivism of children involved in criminal proceedings”, said Parliament’s Civil Liberties Committee rapporteur and lead negotiator on the proposal, Caterina Chinnici (S&D, IT).”Despite the large number of international instruments in this area, there was no, to date, a binding text defining what constitutes a ‘fair trial’ for children: this directive will provide a structured catalogue of rights for suspected or accused children, based on a set of minimum, interconnected standards aimed to meet the specific needs of children at all stages in criminal proceedings”, Ms Chinnici stressed.”At the end of a tough round of negotiations, we also succeeded in introducing, among other important rights, the crucial principle of mandatory assistance by a lawyer for children. For all these reasons, we are very proud of this directive and we hope that it will come into force at the earliest possible time”, she added.The deal on the text of the directive was reached in the ninth “trilogue” (three-way talks between Parliament, Council and Commission negotiators) on Tuesday evening.
During the negotiations, MEPs sought to strengthen the rules on assistance by a lawyer and to limit the derogations to this obligation, since children, as vulnerable persons, are not always able to fully understand and follow criminal proceedings. MEPs also inserted provisions throughout the text to ensure that “the child’s best interests are always a primary consideration”.
Other safeguards for children (i.e. persons under the age of 18) included in the agreed text are, for example:
the right to be promptly informed about their rights and about general aspects of the conduct of the proceedings;
information shall also be provided to the holder of parental responsibility or another appropriate adult, nominated by the child and accepted as such by the competent authority; children shall have the right to be accompanied by that person during court hearings in which they are involved and, under certain conditions, also during other stages of the proceedings, e.g. during police questioning;
the right to be individually assessed by qualified personnel – the assessment shall in particular take into account the personality and maturity of the child, their economic, social and family background, as well as any specific vulnerabilities of the child;children who are deprived of liberty shall have the right to a medical examination without undue delay, which shall be as non-invasive as possible;deprivation of liberty, in particular detention, shall only be imposed as a measure of last resort and for the shortest appropriate period of time. Member states shall ensure that, wherever possible, the competent authorities shall have recourse to alternative measures instead of detention;children who are kept in police-custody shall be held separately from adults, unless it is considered in the child’s best interests not to do so; the right to protection of privacy during the criminal proceedings, including the option of having court hearings involving children held in the absence of the public.

Burundi: il governo boicotta la continuazione dei colloqui di pace

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 8 gennaio 2016
