Distress, le opere dell’artista persiana Rasta raccontano l’inquietudine dell’uomo

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 14 novembre 2017

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 14 novembre 2017

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 14 novembre 2017

Protection of Holy Sites and Worship Places in Europe and the Middle East

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 14 novembre 2017

conferenceIn the run up to the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, European churches are urging the European institutions to increase their efforts to ensure respect and protection of places of worship and holy sites, both in the EU law and in the Common Foreign and Security Policy.
The forty participants of the conference emphasised that several gaps in the international legal regime, governing such sites, need to be filled, in particular a common definition and legal remedies. To buy, build, own, maintain, restore and use such religious places are part and parcel of the fundamental right to Freedom of Religion or Belief, they said. The conference explored different legal, political and cultural contexts of the theme. This included Western Europe, with its increasingly secular setting, as well as regions where religious sites have been politicized in conflict situations, such as in Kosovo (UNSCR 1244/1999), in the divided Cyprus, in Ukraine, in Syria and in the City of Jerusalem, which holds special significance to Jews, Christians and Muslims alike. For Cyprus, His Beatitude Archbishop Chrysostomos II of Nova Justiniana and All Cyprus spoke about the need of de facto protection of the churches in Cyprus. Religious monuments in the country are not under the effective control of the Republic of Cyprus and are often vandalized with the Turkish Cypriot side doing little to prevent that. Legal owners are also often denied access to and prevented from worshiping at their holy sites. “Using the right of access to places of worship for political ends is not conducive to dialogue,” said Cyprus’ Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides.Speaking about the Holy Land, His Beatitude Theophilos III, Patriarch of Jerusalem and all Palestine, said that over the last several months, a new level of threat has emerged to the stability of conference1Jerusalem as a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-religious society of which the diverse holy sites are concrete evidence, and that the churches have become increasingly concerned about their properties.
For Syria, Bishop Armash Nalbandian, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Damascus, talked about the great suffering his community that has lived through during the civil war. He emphasized the desire to return the country to relative harmony between different faiths that existed before the conflict.Fr Sava Janjic, Abbot of Dečani Monastery in Kosovo (UNSCR 1244/1999), demanded that “political leaders in the Balkans should demonstrate more commitment to the protection of cultural and religious heritage of vulnerable communities and make more efforts to prevent further destruction of holy sites”.The moderator of CEC Thematic Reference Group on Human Rights, Rev. Dr Göran Gunner, stated that “the destruction of a place of worship often deeply affects the identity of a religious person, who wants the site to be preserved for the present and future generations with dignity, integrity and respect.” (photos: )

SCIEX Announces Joint Venture With Zhenjang Dian Diagnostics in China

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 14 novembre 2017

Hangzhou, ChinaHangzhou, China SCIEX Diagnostics, the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) division of SCIEX, a global leader in mass spectrometry in the life sciences industry, announced today that it has formed a joint venture (JV) with Zhejiang Dian Diagnostics (Dian), a leader in the research, development and supply of medical diagnostic products and services in China. The parties plan to jointly establish a joint venture in Hangzhou, China to develop, register, manufacture, and commercialize Class I, II and III in vitro diagnostic reagents for the SCIEX Triple Quad™ 4500MD LC-MS/MS system, a solution that was approved by the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) earlier this year. Mass spectrometry is known to achieve the high sensitivity, specificity and throughput needed in clinical testing areas such as therapeutic drug measurement, vitamin and steroid hormones, and measurements of inherited metabolic diseases, but the lack of readily available IVD assays has made this technology inaccessible to the majority of hospital labs in China where lab-developed tests (LDT) are limited. By combining SCIEX LC-MS/MS and assay development expertise, with Dian’s laboratory network, cold chain logistics, and China-IVD manufacturing expertise, it is expected that the partnership will accelerate China’s clinical laboratory program and make diagnostic and wellness testing more widespread in the region. As one of the leading diagnostic companies in China, Dian’s diagnostic network stretches to more than 30 laboratories, covering almost all of mainland China, processing more than 100,000 clinical samples per day. To advance clinical diagnostics in China, Dian has also established “precision treatment centers” with high-end “Tier 3” medical institutions, and has a developed a comprehensive service for secondary-level “Tier 2” hospitals and beyond. “Modern-day China contends with many lifestyle factors that can lead to illness. Our aim is to provide wellness testing resources that can help hospitals identify potential health risks before they become chronic,” said Inese Lowenstein, President of SCIEX. “Dian has established many product channels with its wide coverage of high-end medical resources, and this venture will further enrich their existing in vitro diagnostic product lines to enable hospital labs to expand their testing capabilities, and perform tests that they previously were not able to.” “It is an important decision and major breakthrough for Dian to collaborate with SCIEX to promote the industrialization and localization of clinical mass spectrometry,” said Hai bin Chen, Chairman Zhenjang Dian Diagnostics. “This joint venture is the first of its kind in China, and by also working closely with CFDA and Health and Family Planning Commission, we believe it will have a profound influence on the future of wellness and diagnostic testing in China.” A ceremony celebrating the venture will take place at Zhejiang Dian Diagnostics headquarters in Hangzhou, China, on November 11, 2017 attended by SCIEX Senior Leadership Executives.

Global Good and Motic Introduce Breakthrough AI-Powered Microscope to Fight Drug-Resistant Malaria

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 14 novembre 2017

malariaAdvanced microscope designer and manufacturer Motic China Group Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Motic (Xiamen) Electric Group Co Ltd (SHE: 300341), announced today at MEDICA 2017 that it has partnered with the Global Good Fund, a collaboration between Intellectual Ventures and Bill Gates to develop technologies for humanitarian impact. This new collaboration will create and distribute the EasyScan GO*, a breakthrough AI-powered microscope to fight the spread of drug-resistant malaria and assist in case management. Using custom image recognition software, EasyScan GO is capable of identifying and counting malaria parasites in a blood smear in as little as 20 minutes. “This collaboration, combining Global Good’s impact invention focus with Motic’s engineering, manufacturing and distribution capabilities, represents the type of innovative healthcare solution that is needed to improve health in emerging and low-income markets,” said Maurizio Vecchione, Intellectual Ventures’ Executive Vice President of Global Good and Research. “By distributing and commercializing an intelligent microscope, Global Good and Motic are creating a future where quality diagnosis of multiple diseases is within reach for everyone everywhere.” “Malaria is one of the hardest diseases to identify on a microscope slide,” said David Bell, Director of Global Health Technologies supporting Global Good. “By putting machine learning-enabled microscopes in the hands of laboratory technicians, we can overcome two major barriers to combating the mutating parasite—improving diagnosis in case management and standardizing detection across geographies and time.”
Every year, malaria kills almost half a million people, and researchers estimate nearly half the world’s population is at risk of contracting it. The rapid spread of a multidrug-resistant strain in parts of Southeast Asia is a particularly alarming development detailed by researchers in a letter published recently in The Lancet.Accurate detection of severe and drug-resistant cases requires analysis of a blood smear by a WHO-certified expert microscopist, which takes roughly 20 minutes per slide. Automating the process with an intelligent microscope can alleviate the shortfall of trained personnel in under-resourced countries. Field tests of an early prototype of the microscope presented at the International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV) showed that the machine learning algorithm developed by Global Good is as reliable as an expert microscopist.“Our goal in integrating Global Good’s advanced software into Motic’s high-quality, affordable digital slide scanner is to simplify and standardize malaria detection,” said Richard Yeung, Vice President of Motic China. “Success with the most difficult-to-identify disease paves the way for the EasyScan product line to excel at almost any microscopy task and to detect other major diseases that affect developed and emerging markets alike.” The EasyScan GO is currently being trained to recognize all species of malaria and other parasites and traits commonly found on a blood film, including Chagas disease, microfilaria and sickle cell. The team will also explore its application to other sample types, such as sputum, feces and tissue, as well some forms of cancer. For more, please visit: http://www.easyscango.com.

Taiyo Pacific Partners Becomes Major Shareholder in W-SCOPE (6619) with Stake Over 5%

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 14 novembre 2017

tokyo-japanTokyo. Taiyo Pacific Partners announced today that it has accumulated in excess of 5% in W-SCOPE CORPORATION (6619) to become the 6th largest shareholder. The company (or “W-Scope”) is a global, leading provider of separators for lithium-ion secondary cell batteries used in portable devices as well as hybrid and electric cars. Taiyo Pacific Partners is a pioneer of friendly engagement investing in Japan and has been proactively working with senior management at its portfolio companies to enhance shareholder value for over 14 years.Brian K. Heywood, Chief Executive Officer and Founding Partner of Taiyo Pacific Partners, said, “As we all know, separators play a critical role in preventing lithium-ion batteries from heating up or catching fire in key mobile devices such as cell phones. W-Scope is a relatively new entrant into the separator business, but has quickly built an efficient manufacturing process that allows the company to compete globally with larger competitors. With its laser-sharp focus and determination to provide high quality, cost-effective separators, we believe W-Scope is well positioned to capture the explosive growth driven by electric vehicles. Furthermore, we also believe that long term, its nano-membrane film technology can be used in other areas including water purification, air filters and medical devices for dialysis.”
Michael A. King, Chief Investment Officer and Founding Partner of Taiyo Pacific Partners, said, “W-Scope has established a very efficient production process for wet-type separators that will allow the company to meet the growing needs for lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles at competitive cost. A cell phone only requires 1 lithium-ion battery cell, but an electric vehicle requires 7,000 cells per car. As the company shifts its customer base from portable devices to higher margin auto business, we believe the company will create long-term value. We believe the market has not yet appreciated the full potential of W-Scope.”President Won-Kun Choi commented, “W-Scope is a company specializing in the production of lithium-ion battery separators leveraging our membrane film manufacturing technologies. Our products support many consumer products as well as the auto industry. Going forward, we aim to expand our technologies into wider business areas to provide a more enriching future for our society. We are grateful that Taiyo Pacific Partners has increased its holding by understanding our long-term goals and potentials.

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 14 novembre 2017

Secretary General Shares Latest News On the 17 SDG`s

new yorkNew York. In September 2015, 193 countries signed up to support the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals for our planet and the people that live on it. “The promise to leave no one behind is the most difficult commitment of this new social contract,” says Thomas Gass. “It requires that we all seek to understand who the most vulnerable people are and what risks they face, and then systematically empower these people and build their resilience.” Thomas Gass was appointed by the UN Secretary-General as Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination and Inter-Agency Affairs in UN DESA and he took office on 3 September 2013. Gass believes the SDG’s are a “shared vision of humanity” and not just a “development strategy for big international organizations to fix the problems in the South.” Leaders need to understand that “sustainability has been redefined,” and that “no group must be left behind.” He adds that when “poverty or pollution or climate change happen in another country far away, that does not mean that we are not part of the cause of these problems and their necessary solution.”CMRubinWorld launched in 2010 to explore what kind of education would prepare students to succeed in a rapidly changing globalized world.
