Il re nudo ovvero “in rabbia veritas”

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 22 aprile 2018

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 22 aprile 2018

salone mobile anna russosalone mobile1 anna russo.jpgMilano. Effetto Peltzman sui mercati finanziari: perché è insensato avere obbligazioni corporate in portafoglio

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 22 aprile 2018

The Effects of Automobile Safety Regulation” (https://www.jstor.org/stable/1830396?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents).

Agriturismo. Attenzione alle fregature!

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 22 aprile 2018

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 22 aprile 2018

A fat belly is bad for your heart

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 22 aprile 2018

Ljubljana, Slovenia Belly fat, even in people who are not otherwise overweight, is bad for the heart, according to results from the Mayo Clinic presented today at EuroPrevent 2018, a European Society of Cardiology congress.“See your doctor if your waist is bigger than your hips,” said study author Dr Jose Medina-Inojosa, from the division of Preventive Cardiology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, and The International Clinical Research Centre of St. Anne’s University Hospital (FNUSA-ICRC), Brno, Czech Republic.Body mass index (BMI), which is weight relative to height in kg/m2, is used to categorise adults as underweight, normal weight, overweight or obese. However, BMI does not account for the amount and distribution of fat and muscle.Central obesity is a store of excess fat around the middle of the body and is a marker of abnormal fat distribution. This study tested the hypothesis that people with normal weight and central obesity would have more heart problems than people with normal weight and normal fat distribution. In 1997 to 2000 the study enrolled 1,692 residents of Olmsted County, Minnesota, aged 45 years or older. The sample was representative of the county population for age and sex. Participants underwent a clinical examination and measurements were taken of weight, height, waist circumference and hip circumference. Central obesity was defined as a ratio dividing the waist circumference by the hip circumference of 0.90 or above for men and 0.85 or above for women.
Patients were followed-up from 2000 to 2016 for the occurrence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) using linked medical records from the Rochester Epidemiology Project. MACE was defined as heart attack, surgical or percutaneous coronary revascularisation to open blocked arteries, stroke, or death from cardiovascular causes.Participants with a normal BMI (18.5–24.9 kg/m2) and central obesity had an approximately two-fold higher long-term risk of MACE compared to participants without central obesity, regardless of their BMI. Dr Medina-Inojosa said: “People with a normal weight but a fat belly have more chance of heart problems than people without a fat belly, even if they are obese according to BMI. This body shape indicates a sedentary lifestyle, low muscle mass, and eating too many refined carbohydrates.” “The belly is usually the first place we deposit fat, so people classified as overweight BMI but without a fat belly probably have more muscle which is good for health,” he continued. “Muscle is like a metabolic storehouse and helps decrease lipid and sugar levels in the blood.”Participants with a normal BMI and central obesity also had a higher risk of MACE than overweight and obese participants with central obesity. Dr Medina-Inojosa said that overweight and obese people with central obesity might also have more muscle mass which could be protective.
He said: “If you have fat around your belly and it’s greater than the size of your hips, visit your doctor to assess your cardiovascular health and fat distribution. If you have central obesity the target will be waist loss rather than weight loss. Exercise more, decrease sedentary time by taking the stairs or getting off the train one stop early and walking, increase your muscle mass with strength and resistance training, and cut out refined carbohydrates.”Dr Medina-Inojosa said it was important for doctors not to assume that people with a normal BMI are not at risk of heart problems or that their fat distribution is normal. He said: “Our study provides evidence that doctors should also measure central obesity to get a better picture of whether a patient is at risk.”

British MP Benn Talks Brexit Challenges and the Future of UK Clinical Research Industry

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 22 aprile 2018

Facing unprecedented challenges associated with Brexit, on 13 April the UK’s major clinical research organizations (CROs) met with the Rt Hon Hilary Benn (Labour – Leeds Central) to tour Covance’s research facilities in Leeds and discuss the implications of the impending separation from the European Union. The Association of Clinical Research Organizations (ACRO), facilitated the discussion between Benn and seven CROs with active operations in the UK, to examine the industry’s role in advancing new medicines, Brexit-related concerns and how the industry can retain its competitiveness. The clinical research industry reaches more than 35,000 patients in the UK through over 1,600 studies each year. ACRO member companies are also a major source of UK employment, providing over 13,000 highly skilled jobs, including about 300 jobs in Leeds. With pan-European health, data, privacy and employment implications, the UK CRO industry has unique concerns as it grapples with the UK’s pending withdrawal from the EU.“I learned a great deal about the important role played by CROs in clinical research and the development of new drugs,” said Benn, Chair of Exiting the European Union Committee. “We also discussed ACRO’s concerns about the implications of Brexit for ensuring a continuing strong relationship between the MHRA and the EMA and the need to maintain continuity and alignment with EU regulations such as the Clinical Trial Regulation and the General Data Protection Regulation.”
Direct discussions with MPs at research sites can illustrate the work of the industry, its employees and the positive impacts of CROs. “With their critical role in advancing innovative new medicines for Europe and the world, the UK’s clinical research organizations are an important voice,” said Karen Noonan, ACRO’s Vice President, Global Regulatory Policy. “As we look toward an even stronger future for clinical research across the UK, we want this site and the entire UK industry to be competitive. It is vitally important that we discuss the challenges, decisions and policies surrounding Brexit.”

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories Releases a Statement Regarding Spider Silk Industry

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 22 aprile 2018

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc. (OTCQB: KBLB) (“Company”), the leading developer of spider silk based fibers, releases the following statement regarding developments in the growing Spider Silk Industry. Spider silk’s toughness is said to be 10 times greater than steel and some silks are nearly as elastic as rubber. According to some studies, spider silks can be two to three times tougher than even Kevlar, which explains why so many researchers have targeted this fiber for protective clothing and body armor applications, as well as other potential military applications including technical undergarments and more practical ropes.Numerous scientific studies have highlighted spider silk’s many intrinsic qualities and why it may be the ideal fiber for a slew of applications. For example, spider silk’s maximal resilience, or ability to absorb energy, makes it one of the sturdiest materials on a weight-to-weight basis. These properties could make spider silk the foundation for many lightweight products, including air bags, seat belts, flexible bridge suspension cables, sports helmets and motor vehicle panels.
Additionally, studies have shown spider silk to be antimicrobial, biocompatible, hypoallergenic and totally biodegradable. Spider silk is a biomaterial that could be the platform on which to develop many medical technologies, like better bandages, elastic ligaments, and artificial tendons and even biodegradable water bottles.Concurrent to Kraig Labs positioning for commercial production of its advanced fibers, many independent scientific studies have shown great promise in a vast array of potential spider silk applications. The Company would like to congratulate all efforts that advance spider silk technologies. A few recent examples of that work are provided below. Each of these reports is entirely unaffiliated with Kraig Labs, and we therefore have not and cannot authenticate any specific conclusions.

Best’s Special Report: How Will European Insurers React to Uncertain Economic Conditions?

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 22 aprile 2018

European (re)insurers have benefited from investment gains as they have increased their holdings in equities over recent years, although inevitably their exposure to market risk has risen, according to a new report by A.M. Best. Analysis of the 500 largest companies in Northern and Western Europe, with a combined invested asset base of more than EUR 8 trillion, shows over a six-year period, there was a decline in allocation to fixed-income products. The Best’s Special Report, titled, “Interest Rates – The Long Wait. How will European Insurers react to Uncertain Economic Conditions?” states (re)insurers and pension funds form an important part of the investor base searching for yield to maintain their profitability and funding levels. Consequently, an increasing proportion of (re)insurers’ investment portfolios are being allocated to shares and non-traditional asset classes, which provide the potential for higher returns. A.M. Best estimates there has been a 2-3% shift between fixed-income and quoted equity over the six years leading up to 31 December 2016, equating to around EUR 200 billion. This is despite Solvency II coming into effect on 1 January 2016.Thomas Bateman, financial analyst, said: “This more rigorous risk-based regulatory framework in theory should have encouraged insurers and reinsurers toward a more efficient asset allocation, to optimise performance and solvency. However, the data does not seem to be consistent with a view that this could result in investment portfolios that attract lower risk charges. Insurers and reinsurers operating in the region are considered to be well-capitalised, hence there is limited pressure from a capitalisation perspective for companies to de-risk their investment portfolios. In addition, companies in Northern and Western Europe tend to use sophisticated asset liability management techniques, which form a core part of the strategic allocation process. Consequently, as capital management forms only one portion of the investment process it is unlikely to be the primary driving force behind asset selection at present.”

Tripwire Survey: 70 Percent of Energy Security Professionals Concerned About ‘Catastrophic Failure’ From Cyberthreats

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 22 aprile 2018

Tripwire, Inc., a leading global provider of security and compliance solutions for enterprises and industrial organizations, today announced the results of a survey conducted by Dimensional Research examining industrial control systems (ICS) security in the energy industry. The survey was conducted in March, and its respondents included 151 IT and operational technology (OT) security professionals at energy and oil and gas companies.According to the survey, 70 percent of respondents are concerned that a successful cyberattack could cause a catastrophic failure, such as an explosion. With widespread recognition of the physical threat cyberattacks present against the energy and oil and gas industry, 97 percent are concerned that attacks could cause operational shutdowns, and 96 percent believe they could impact the safety of their employees.”Energy companies have accepted the reality that digital threats can have tangible consequences,” said Tim Erlin, vice president of product management and strategy at Tripwire. “This perception is perhaps heightened by recent attacks that were specifically designed to affect physical operations and have proven capable of doing so.” Respondents were also asked about their organizations’ security investments, with the following results:While 65 percent feel their company invests sufficiently in ICS security, 62 percent said that lack of budget and investment continues to be the biggest barrier in meeting ICS security goals.
Of those who said their company does not invest sufficiently, 56 percent believe it would take a significant attack to get their companies to a proper level of investment.
Ninety-one percent are worried about attacks on their ICS. Fifty-nine percent said their companies increased security investments because of ICS-targeted attacks like Trisis/Triton, Industroyer/CrashOverride and Stuxnet.Forty-five percent said ransomware has had the most significant impact in increasing their security investment, compared to 44 percent who said Trisis/Triton and Industroyer/CrashOverride and 11 percent who said Stuxnet. It is widely recommended that organizations properly secure their critical infrastructure ICS with a layered approach, commonly referred to as Defense in Depth. In the survey, only 35 percent of respondents said they implement a multilayered approach to ICS security. Thirty-four percent said they focus primarily on network level security, and 14 percent said ICS device security.
Erlin added: “It’s encouraging to see that companies have increased their security investment somewhat. However, it’s concerning that more than half would wait for an attack to happen before investing properly, given what’s at stake with critical infrastructure. The energy industry should invest in establishing more robust cybersecurity strategies, with a proper foundation of critical security controls and layers of defense.”
