Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 15 dicembre 2018

MEPs assess data protection level in Japan

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 15 dicembre 2018

In their assessment of the Commission’s draft adequacy decision on Japan, MEPs demand further clarifications to ensure safe data transfers to Japan. In the resolution, adopted by 516 to 26, with 11 abstentions, MEPs give their input to the draft adequacy decision on the protection of personal data afforded by Japan. This decision, to be taken by the Commission, would allow the free flow of personal data from the EU to Japan without further safeguards or authorisations. The adequacy decision would further facilitate commercial exchanges between Japan and the EU and complement the benefits of the Economic Partnership Agreement approved by the European Parliament yesterday.MEPs consider that the Japanese and EU data protection systems share a high degree of convergence in terms of principles, safeguards and individual rights, as well as oversight and enforcement mechanisms. However, they note that there are some relevant differences between the two systems especially in regards to the definition of ‘personal data’ and ‘personal information’, rules on automated decision-making and profiling, direct marketing, onward transfers and on sanctions for infringements. MEPs call on the Commission to provide further clarifications on these topics. If necessary, Japanese authorities should be requested to provide additional binding rules in order to ensure that the level of data protection in Japan is comparable to that in the EU.In their resolution, MEPs also express worry over Japanese mass surveillance facilities “that eavesdrop around the clock on phone calls, emails, and other communications” and call on the Commission to provide more information about this. Finally, MEPs highlight that the adequacy decision can send out a strong signal to countries around the world that convergence with the EU’s high data protection standards and that it acts as a precedent for future partnerships.

Prayers for victims of Strasbourg shooting

With deep concern and sadness, the Conference of European Churches received the news of shooting in Strasbourg, where according to media reports, a gunman opened fire at a Christmas market on 12 December 2018, killing three people and wounding thirteen.
“We strongly condemn this senseless attack on innocent people and offer our solidarity and prayers for the community and families of all those affected by this violence,” says a letter to the churches in France issued by CEC and the Churches’ Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME).“We are praying with and for our Member Churches in France, especially the Union of Protestant Churches in Alsace and Lorraine (UEPAL) which has its headquarters in the affected area. We are particularly moved as CEC President Rev. Christian Krieger, who is president of the Reformed Protestant Church of Alsace and Lorraine and Vice-President of UEPAL, lives in the city, as well as our staff members from the CEC Strasbourg office,” reads the letter“When Strasbourg is attacked ‘from the inside’ we grieve with the people of this city and we hold on to the same hope as them for peace. We trust the message of Christmas will continue to enlighten and enliven the streets of Strasbourg, despite the stifling attempts of violence.

IHS Markit Predicts Slowdown in Global Economy in 2019

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 15 dicembre 2018

Global economic growth will edge down to 3.0 percent in 2019, from a rate of 3.2 percent in 2018, according to the annual Top 10 Economic Predictions released today by business information provider IHS Markit (Nasdaq: INFO). While global growth will continue to decelerate, the economy will also become increasingly vulnerable to shocks.“Policy mistakes remain the biggest threats to global growth in 2019 and beyond,” said IHS Markit Chief Economist Nariman Behravesh. “Simmering trade conflicts are dangerous, not because they have done damage so far – they haven’t – but because they could easily escalate. At the same time, the sell-off in equity and commodity markets, on top of the gradual removal of stimuli by some central banks, means that financial conditions worldwide are tightening. The good news is that the probability of a single policy event seriously hurting global growth in 2019 is still relatively low.”The U.S. economy is expected to grow at a rate of at 2.6 percent in 2019, less than the 2.9 percent growth seen in 2018, but still indicative of solid economic fundamentals. The new year will see countervailing pressures on U.S. growth: on the downside, the rising dollar, tightening credit conditions and higher tariffs could still hurt growth; on the upside, low interest rates, fiscal stimulus and constrained oil prices bode well for the U.S. economy.IHS Markit predicts Europe’s economic expansion will slow even further, declining to 1.5 percent in 2019. Several adverse economic and political factors are behind the continued deceleration, including less accommodative credit conditions, the negative impact of trade tensions on the manufacturing sector and exports and the appreciation of the euro against most currencies except the U.S. dollar. Political risks have also increased significantly, contributing to the four year low in business sentiment illustrated by the PMI by IHS Markit. Last, but by no means least, the continuing turmoil around Brexit will hurt UK growth, which will fall from 1.3 percent in 2018 to 1.1 percent in 2019.

We have the opportunity to develop drugs for diseases that to date have had no approved therapies, because we have the unique ability to demonstrate the benefits of investigational agents on imaging biomarkers.” Dr. Paul Pockros, Head of SCLRC and the Director of the Liver Disease Center at Scripps Clinic comments: “The collaboration between SC Liver Research Consortium and Perspectum will provide investigators and sites with an important technology to allow breakthroughs in NASH research. BioSim Pharmaceuticals to Attend JP Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 15 dicembre 2018

Held annually alongside Biotech Showcase and OneMed Forum, the JP Morgan conference is one of the largest and most informative healthcare symposiums in the industry. BioSim will be meeting throughout the conference to update suppliers and interested parties on state of their research and development program.BioSim’s ACTH Gelatin Depot 80 IU/mL product is a copy of the branded drug H.P. ACTHAR®, manufactured by Mallinckrodt Plc (NYSE: MNK) which in 2014 purchased the previous owner, Questcor Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:QCOR) through a tax inversion valued at over $5 billion dollars. The injectable drug treats infantile spasms and rare autoimmune disorders like nephrotic syndrome and multiple sclerosis. BioSim has been advancing its ACTH (Corticotropin) Gel since 2012. With significant research and development, coupled with recent government guidance, its product has been demonstrated in-vitro and in-vivo to perform like ACTHAR. Over the past few decades, the market for specialty biopharmaceutical products for rare diseases has blossomed. For established companies like Teva (NYSE:Teva) and Cipla (NSE: CIPLA), as well as niche players like Depomed and Zydus Cadilla (NSE: CADILAHC), the US market continues to see rapid growth. BioSim has positioned itself to take advantage of that change, all with the goal of lowering the cost of medicine for America’s Healthcare System.
