Cinema: Visages, Villages

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 13 marzo 2018

Ci sorprendiamo a vicenda.

Science Academies highlight importance of Precision Medicine at EU Parliament

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 17 ottobre 2015

BruxellesBrussels. For the first time policy makers, patients, industry representatives and the scientific allergy and asthma community came together at the European Parliament to discuss the need for Precision Medicine. Today’s symposium on the “European need for precision medicine in allergy and airways diseases” laid the foundation to define an action plan on how to deliver the cost-effective precision medicine to the allergic patient.
Precision medicine (PM) is an emerging approach for disease treatment and prevention that takes into account individual characteristics of a patient in genes, environment and lifestyle. PM will change Europe’s healthcare dramatically as disease management will shift from acute and reactive medicine to a more tailored approach that is predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory, with patients as partners in the development of treatment options. PM will allow to predict more accurately which treatment and prevention strategies for a particular disease will work, when and in which groups of people. The benefit is improved patient-centered care, reduced costs of side-effects and better prevention, which increases public healthThe European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis and MEP Sirpa Pietikäinen highlighted the value of this meeting aiming to add to the previous initiatives of EAACI to tackle the allergy burden in Europe, where more than 150 million people are affected by an allergic disease. In parallel EAACI is developing in cooperation with the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) a consensus statement on PM in allergic diseases led by EAACI President Antonella Muraro that will be published at the beginning of 2016.
Next steps are to join scientific academies, policy makers, patient organisations, and pharma industry in a platform aimed to implement precision medicine in allergy and airways diseases to ultimately improve patients’ health.View this press release in German, Spanish, Italian, French here. Better allergy vaccines!

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 22 febbraio 2011

Zurich. Teams of doctors fighting for their ideas, presenting evidence against each other, just like a judiciary trial. This is the innovative format experimented by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) that is lining up a battalion of top experts for its upcoming SummIT 2011 Meeting, to be held in Geneva, Switzerland on 24 February 2011. Allergologists from all over the world are fighting an important battle. With each team representing a “for” and an “against” argument, discussion is focusing on the open issues concerning allergy vaccines, also known as allergen immunotherapy. Today, vaccines are an established treatment for allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis, asthma and allergy to venoms of bees and wasps. Immunotherapy can be administered by subcutaneous injections or through the sublingual route, with drops or tablets. However, some questions and doubts remain the focus of scientific debate worldwide: What is the best way to measure allergen content in preparations? Is there a dose-efficacy relationship? When and how is it better to administer the vaccines? What is the response in patients allergic to more than one substance? Which are the long-term benefits of immunotherapy? The innovative format of the EAACI SummIT Meeting is providing an effective way for groups of experts to explore each of these questions while ensuring a thorough assessment of every aspect. Based on these initial discussions, working groups will assess current knowledge and produce an extensive analysis which will be published shortly after the event. Other issues on the agenda of the EAACI Meeting include the newest developments in the use of immunotherapy, such as new allergen preparations, vaccines for allergic diseases that have not been used yet or alternative routes of delivery. Representatives of the European Medicines Agency and patient associations will also attend the meeting, offering different valuable points of view in the common effort to provide the best possible allergen immunotherapy and give every patient in need the chance to receive it.
