AidEx 2016 Humanitarian & Development Journalism Award – final call for entries

AidEx, the leading forum for the international aid and development community, would like to inform the global journalism community that the deadlines for entries to the 2016 edition of the AidEx Humanitarian & Development Journalism Award is this Friday, 2 September. Submissions and nominations are still being accepted on our website until this date.The award celebrates the best of humanitarian and development reporting and photojournalism. In 2015, the winners of the award were Holly Young, from The Guardian’s Global Development Professionals Network (for reporting) and Victor Lacken, of Lensman Media Services (for photojournalism). Learn more about last year’s finalists and winners here.The AidEx Humanitarian & Development Journalism Award is run in partnership with NRS International, a leading international manufacturer of innovative products for the humanitarian aid, public health and development sectors.Nominations for the Award will be judged by an independent panel of experts and by an online public vote. Two winners will be selected in the Photojournalism and Reporting categories respectively; they will receive a trophy and cash prize of €2,500, conferred in person at AidEx in Brussels on 17 November 2016.
Now in its 6th year, AidEx is a major international conference and exhibition for humanitarian and development professionals of all stripes. Its fundamental aim is to engage the sector at every level and provide a forum for the visitors to meet, source, supply, and learn. The two-day event taking place in Brussels annually was created to help the international aid and development community come together in a neutral setting, drive innovation and support the ever-growing need for emergency aid and development programmes.
The theme for AidEx 2016 is “Localisation”, and the event will take place on the 16 and 17 November 2016 at Brussels Expo, in Brussels, Belgium.

AidEx 2016 Humanitarian & Development Journalism Award open for entries

Brussels, 18 May 2016: AidEx, the leading forum for the international aid and development community, is happy to announce that the 2016 edition of the AidEx Humanitarian & Development Journalism Award, supported by NRS International, is now open for submissions and nominations.Launched last year, this award aims to celebrate the best of humanitarian and develoBruxellespment reporting and photojournalism. In 2015, the winners of the award were Holly Young, from The Guardian’s Global Development Professionals Network (for reporting) and Victor Lacken, of Lensman Media Services (for photojournalism). Other finalists in both categories included individuals from IRIN, Plan International, EurActiv, and the Thomson Reuters Foundation. Learn more about last year’s finalists and winners here.
Speaking about his win, Victor Lacken noted that it has “motivated me to seek new challenges in photojournalism and I expect it will inspire other photographers to tell their stories.” Holly Young said winning the reporting award has “given me more confidence to pursue stories that I really believe in”.The AidEx Humanitarian & Development Journalism Award is run in partnership with NRS International, a leading international manufacturer of innovative products for the humanitarian aid, public health and development sectors.The award will be conferred in-person at the AidEx Brussels exhibition and conference on 17 November 2016 and will recognise exceptional work in the following two categories:
Photojournalism: for a photograph or set of photographs published in 2015, portraying the work of international aid organisations or NGOs, or the situation of those in need of humanitarian aid or development assistance.
Reporting: for print, radio, broadcast or digital reporting published in 2015. This should have investigated humanitarian and development issues; recognised unsung heroes in the sector; highlighted the plight of affected communities; or encouraged greater understanding of humanitarian and development work.
Nominations for the Award will be judged by an independent panel of experts and by an online public vote. One winner will be selected from each category to receive a trophy and cash prize of €2,500, conferred in person at AidEx in Brussels on 17 November 2016.
