Nascita della Lung Ambition Alliance

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 16 luglio 2019

CohesionAlliance seeks cooperation with MEPs to secure strong cohesion policy 2021-27

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 14 luglio 2019

Leading COTER and REGI members discussed risks and opportunities in the negotiations between the European Parliament and Council with territorial and sectoral associations
Envisaged budgetary cuts and centralisation still risk jeopardising the capacity of 2021-27 European Structural and Investment (ESI) funds to reduce gaps and spread sustainable and inclusive growth across the EU. The partners of the #CohesionAlliance – an EU wide alliance in favour of a strong cohesion policy after 2020 –discussed how to overcome such risks in a debate with newly appointed members of the European Parliament, held at the European Committee of the Regions (CoR).”The European elections have given the new European Parliament a clear mandate to bring Europe closer to citizens’ needs. Cohesion policy offers a unique and powerful tool to achieve this goal by involving of all relevant actors in every European region. Together, we need to protect and improve this policy, and avoid it being used as a cash reserve to accommodate last minute backroom deals on the future EU budget”, said the CoR president, Karl-Heinz Lambertz, welcoming as new #CohesionAlliance supporter the newly appointed chair of the European Parliament’s Committee for Regional Development (REGI), Younous Omarjee.Mr Omarjee expressed full support for the Alliance’s priorities including the key role of territorial cohesion, the elimination of macro-economic conditionality, the simplification of rules and the partnership principle for inclusive governance of investment plans. “We have to fight together against any cut to EU cohesion policy in the next long term budget”, he said, adding that, “since austerity plans were introduced during the financial crisis, regional and local authorities have often been given new responsibilities and tasks, while they are facing new challenges ranging from climate change to poverty. We need to ensure adequate support from the EU to regions.”
Over the past two years, the Alliance has established itself as the first communication platform to bring together all stakeholders involved in cohesion policy, from both the private and the public sectors. It aims to give them a voice in the EU decision-making process while informing and raising awareness among the public on Europe’s commitment to reducing disparities. The impact of this action was highlighted by the envoy of the State of Saxony-Anhalt to the Federal Government and president of the CoR EPP Group, Michael Schneider (EPP/DE), who was among its initiators: “I am confident that the Cohesion Alliance, which keeps gaining momentum, will have a significant impact on the final design of future cohesion policy. This can already be seen in the European Parliament’s position, which reflects the key demands of our cities and regions.During the event, representatives of public authorities, civil society and business associations highlighted the impact of cohesion policy in intervention areas ranging from youth policies, to support for small and medium enterprises, climate change action and social inclusion. The “trialogues” between European Parliament, Commission and Council on the legislative proposals for the future cohesion policy are expected to restart in October, in order to finalise the adoption of relevant regulations by the end of 2019.

The Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany sees open access to digital sequence information at risks

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 10 febbraio 2018

Janis EitnerThe Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany strongly cautions against expanding the scope of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Nagoya Protocol (NP) to include digital sequence information (DSI). Such an expansion would have far-reaching negative consequences, which could severely damage scientific research progress in the fields of environmental and life sciences and biodiversity, and would particularly threaten international research cooperation within these fields. Furthermore, current efforts to make science more open and transparent (e.g. the European Open Science Cloud Declaration) and initiatives to warrant open access to data from publicly funded research would be jeopardized. In principle, the Alliance supports the NP, which regulates access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of resulting benefits (Access and Benefit Sharing, ABS) as of October 2014. It is a central concern of the Alliance that its members respect good scientific practices (established by field-specific Codes of Conduct) when cooperating with partners in a national or international context.
However, in 2013, the Alliance did publish a joint statement during the EU legislative process pointing out the foreseeable difficulties of implementing the NP for non-commercial research. Indeed, experience now confirms that, as a result of implementation of the NP, international cooperation in biodiversity research, the analysis of human and animal pathogen-vectors, and the investigation of plant diseases, among others, have been significantly obstructed. The main issues have been severe delays, bureaucratic barriers, difficulties obtaining sampling permits from the respective authorities, and existing legal uncertainty. (photo: Janis Eitner)

Renewed action and investment in humanity is needed at the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul next week if we are to move from delivering aid to ending need, international faith-based humanitarian and development network ACT Alliance has said. In the eleven new commitments ACT Alliance as a network has made towards the World Humanitarian Summit, it has focused on the core responsibilities highlighted in the UN Secretary General’s report to the Summit, in terms of meeting people’s essential needs and developing solutions with and for those impacted; investing in local capacities, and putting people at the centre of the response through local and national empowerment and building community resilience.“Every day our members in the field doing humanitarian work are the witnesses of the hard realities that face people affected by natural disasters, diseases and epidemics, and conflicts,” said John Nduna, ACT Alliance General Secretary. “It is imperative that these communities are part of an inclusive system that empowers them. It is time to create a paradigm shift within the humanitarian system, and our expectation is that this first Summit should be a significant milestone toward real change in the sector, in which local and national organisations are more empowered to respond to their community’s needs.” The 140 members of ACT Alliance who together work in over 100 countries around the world, work directly with communities facing emergency situations and respond to around 25 emergency situations around the world per year, including the recent earthquake in Ecuador and the ongoing conflict in Syria. The alliance shares the majority of findings in the UN Secretary General’s report towards the World Humanitarian Summit. It has also endorsed the new Charter for Change initiative, which makes concrete commitments to shift power and resources to national and local actors. As part of its work to support the World Humanitarian Summit process the alliance has committed to significantly increasing the proportion of ACT members’ humanitarian funding that goes directly to local and national members and their partners for humanitarian response and emergency preparedness by 2018.“The commitments ACT has made in the run up to the WHS are about the changes we have identified as important and which we have been advocating for, both within and outside the WHS process,” said Reshma Adatia, ACT Alliance Global Humanitarian Coordinator. “We have used the WHS as an opportunity to commit to being reflective of a system that we want. Our commitments are about leading the way in how we respond to humanitarian situations.” “Like other humanitarian workers we do our best to help people overcome emergency situations, and there are no miracle results,” said Nduna. “We must embrace the issues together at all levels and work in partnerships with equal recognition, from grassroot communities including faith based organisations to national and regional leaders and international bodies. This is the most effective way to help change the lives of people in crisis situations and uphold the norms that safeguard humanity.” (photo: John_Nduna)

DLL si aggiudica il Young Global Leader’s Circular Economy Investor Award durante l’Assemblea Annuale del World Economic Forum

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 21 gennaio 2016

EindhovenEindhoven. DLL, provider globale di soluzioni finanziarie asset-based, è stata dichiarata vincitore dell’Alliance Trust Award for Circular Economy Investor.

Kyla Shawyer appointed permanent CEO to lead the Resource Alliance with a renewed mandate

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 22 ottobre 2015

sony-worldThe Board of Trustees of The Resource Alliance has unanimously appointed Kyla Shawyer to the position of permanent chief executive. She has been interim chief since June 2014.Kyla has led a year-long visioning process that involved information gathering and collaboration with leaders and organisations in the social impact sector around the world. The resulting Manifesto points to a redoubling of the organisation’s commitment to play the role of convener and curator, as they help the sector take advantage of unprecedented new opportunities born through social media and new technology. Vicky Annis, chair of the Resource Alliance, said: “The Resource Alliance has always been dedicated to helping fundraisers develop the skills and knowledge needed to secure critical financial resources for their organisations. Over the past year we have been expanding our commitment to include the intellectual and human resources necessary to take advantage of this new era. Kyla’s unique team-building skills and collaborative style make her perfectly suited to lead the Resource Alliance forward. Kyla noted: “The once stark line between sectors is beginning to blur and traditional models of ‘giving’ are being disrupted by new kinds of social investment—from crowd sourcing to direct personal loans, from social enterprises to cross-sector partnerships. With everything in a state of change, it will be more important than ever to build new kinds of teams and new kinds of collaborations – bringing the best ideas to the table, regardless of where they might originate, and turning them into models our sector can use to thrive.” “I could not be more humbled nor excited to be a part of this outstanding team at this time in its history. It is a true honor, and I look forward to many new partnerships with people and organisations committed to building a better world.”
