US-based medical device company and manufacturer of the NaturalVue® (etafilcon A) Multifocal 1 Day Contact Lenses Visioneering Technologies, Inc (ASX: VTI) (‘Visioneering’ or ‘the Company’) will be presenting the science behind the NaturalVue® Multifocal (etafilcon A) 1 Day Contact Lens with a poster on Friday, October 25. The poster, entitled “Instantaneous Power Profiles vs Sagittal Power Profiles of Various Center Distance Multifocal Lenses” was authored by Rosa Lee, MS, Peg Achenbach, OD, FAAO, Jim Schwiegerling, PhD. Authors Rosa Lee and Dr. Peg Achenbach will be on-hand to share insights from the data from 10:00am to noon (Poster #54).The patent for the design of the NaturalVue Multifocal lens describes the optics of this unique, extended depth of focus lens in terms of instantaneous power. While familiar to many specialists, instantaneous power may be less familiar to the broader community. Partnering with Lambda-x, a customized algorithm was developed using the fundamental concepts of differential geometry to describe the instantaneous power profile of the contact lenses.
The scientific community uses two methods of expressing the power profile in a lens design:
Sagittal (also called axial or radial)
Instantaneous (also called tangential)
Both methods of description are useful in creating and describing lens designs, but provide different information and are used for different purposes. The poster concluded that understanding the optical design of multifocal contact lenses may help predict how it may act on eye, because not all center distance, center near, or extended depth of focus lenses are created the same way. This experiment showed that it is not enough to look at the power difference between the periphery of the optical zone and the center of the lens to estimate the ADD of a lens, the entire profile is important to help determine the performance of the lens. While sagittal power describes a wavefront as it intersects the optical axis, instantaneous power allows us to assess the “true focus,” by describing the wavefront without forcing the focal point to fall on the optical axis.

American Lending Center Expands EB-5 Opportunities in Hong Kong

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 24 ottobre 2019

American Lending Center (ALC), a leading EB-5 regional center, has strengthened its presence and increased resources in Hong Kong amid burgeoning interest in the EB-5 investment opportunities. ALC will support new investors and continue laying groundwork to establish themselves in the area as Hong Kong develops into a key Asian EB-5 market.“We have increased our Hong Kong footprint after noticing growing demand for uniquely successful EB-5 investment opportunities,” stated John Shen, ALC’s Chief Executive Officer. “Just as we expanded our operations in Taiwan, Vietnam and India, ALC is excited to lead industry growth in the region by ensuring the EB-5 program remains a sustainable pathway of investment and immigration.” While EB-5 interest has grown steadily in Hong Kong over the last 10 years, the number of EB-5 visas issued to Hong Kong residents increased sharply in 2019. EB5 Investors Magazine chose to host their first ever EB-5 Expo in Hong Kong on October 19th, further indicating the industry’s movement in that direction. ALC will join this conference as a Platinum sponsor and John Shen will be a panelist, discussing the “The Future of EB-5.” ALC’s predominant focus on placing EB-5 investments exclusively in the senior loan structure has created the best capital protection for investors throughout the EB-5 process. Its rigorous construction management system led by highly successful third parties, in coordination with the senior loan operation, has driven the consistent success of its investments. As a result, ALC has successfully provided over 350 million dollars to American ventures and created over 10,000 full-time jobs throughout the US. It has achieved a 100 percent construction success rate and fully refunded the EB-5 investors who obtained permanent green cards.

The American Oncology Network, LLC (AON), an alliance of physicians and seasoned healthcare leaders, provides a unique array of support services to its affiliated community-based oncology practices, including in-house specialty pharmacy services. The AON Pharmacy streamlines the process of filling prescriptions for cancer patients who are being treated with oral oncolytic medications. The AON Pharmacy is a prime example of this. Pharmacy staff members not only handle the complicated insurance authorization process, they also work with patients and educate them about potential side effects of these powerful cancer drugs and ensure that patients are compliant and understand how to take prescribed medications.”Director of Pharmacy Ray Bailey added, “Our pharmacists are experts in oncology medications and they are available to speak with both patients and physicians, as needed. Through our electronic medical record (EMR), AON pharmacists can view a patient’s chart and then work directly with the patient’s oncologist to best manage any side effects of the oral therapies.”AON Board Member Dr. William Harwin pointed out, “When someone is diagnosed with cancer, he or she doesn’t want to wait several weeks to receive prescribed medications; yet, many of the smaller community oncology practices in the AON network don’t have the infrastructure to provide speedy access to oral oncology drugs. Through the AON Pharmacy, which ships directly to patients’ homes, usually within 48 to 72 hours, patients have easier, more convenient and much faster access to the medications they need.”

VEDC and JPMorgan Chase Announce Loan Fund for African American-Owned Small

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 29 ottobre 2015

New YorkNEW YORK, October 23, 2015 /3BL Media/ – VEDC and JPMorgan Chase & Co. today announced a new lending program for African American-owned small businesses in New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles. The National African American Small Business Loan Fund will boost economic opportunity for minority-owned businesses in these cities and help them serve low-income communities by providing them with greater access to capital, technical assistance and financial consulting. JPMorgan Chase Foundation has contributed a $3 million grant to help VEDC reach its goal of creating a $30 million loan fund.Facilitated by VEDC, a California 501(c)3 Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), this new Fund will provide financing for businesses across all industries. By providing the initial $3 million grant to seed the Fund, JPMorgan Chase is helping VEDC support small businesses that are a critical source of jobs and economic opportunity in their neighborhoods, but may be credit-impaired and unable to qualify for traditional capital. Without access to sustainable financing, these businesses may miss a growth opportunity or risk closing their operations.“As a direct small business lender and a leading intermediary of SBA loan programs, VEDC has a 39-year track record of providing business services to small businesses in low-and middle-income communities and especially in communities of color,” said Robert Barragan, President and CEO, VEDC. “Approximately 20 percent of our existing portfolio serves the African American community. With JPMorgan Chase’s seed funding, we look forward to helping more small businesses in our effort to further narrow the lending gap.” Currently, there are 268,000 African American-owned small businesses in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles – making them among the top cities for African American-owned small businesses. With ownership of approximately 1.9 million, 7 percent of small businesses nationwide, African Americans are the fastest growing segment of small business owners. [1]However, business loans to African American entrepreneurs have yet to rebound since the economic downturn in 2008. To address this need, the National African American Small Business Loan Fund will provide short and long-term loans. Loan sizes will vary, but the average loan will range from $35,000 to $250,000. The JPMorgan Chase grant will allow the National African American Small Business Loan Fund to provide loans and technical assistance and establish a loan loss reserve. This reserve will allow VEDC to expand its lending criteria to New York, Chicago and Los Angeles small businesses that traditionally did not qualify for a loan. “African American small business owners have identified flexible capital as a critical resource for growth, but they face a shortage of this kind of support,” said Janis Bowdler, Head of Community Development for Global Philanthropy, JPMorgan Chase. “CDFIs like VEDC provide small businesses with the consulting and financing they need to grow their operations and often serve as a bridge to traditional bank loans down the road. We’re proud to partner with VEDC on this new fund, which will increase access to the capital and assistance that African American entrepreneurs need most.” Businesses receiving financing will be able to use the capital to expand, finance equipment, address short-term cash flow needs and provide contractor lines of credit. The Fund will also provide small business loan recipients with technical assistance such as networking, marketing, business plan development and financial consulting. Eligible small businesses must be majority-owned by African Americans.
“This new lending program will be another critical piece in our ongoing efforts to promote small business development and entrepreneurship in all Chicago communities, and particularly those that have traditionally lacked access to capital,” said Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “By investing in Chicago’s minority-owned businesses, VEDC and JPMorgan Chase are showing the power of the private sector to help cities tackle some of our biggest challenges.” “African American-owned small businesses are vital economic engines in Los Angeles, and when they are empowered, our communities have new doors open to them — opportunities that they both need and deserve,” said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. “We expect great things from this fund, and thank VEDC and JPMorgan Chase for their commitment to addressing this great need.” “These small businesses are the heart of our neighborhoods,” said New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. “They put people to work and create opportunity for families to make their way up the economic ladder. We are excited to partner with JPMorgan Chase and our fellow cities to support and grow African-American small businesses.” “We know that mission lenders hold the key in providing a sustainable source of capital to minority borrowers and those that have been left out of the economic mainstream,” said Grady Hedgespeth, Director of U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Economic Opportunity.

As part of ACS’ mission to “advance the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and its people,” the Society’s Committee on Environmental Improvement (CEI) has recognized individuals or groups who have made exemplary contributions to the incorporation of sustainability in chemical education. The ACS is especially pleased to note that these awards reflect improvements at all levels of education from K-12 to community colleges to graduate degree programs.“Developing sustainable, chemical solutions to everyday problems — whether they be polymer coatings for solar panels, efficient vehicle batteries that will store energy or methods for purifying drinking water — these discoveries require new ways of thinking,” said ACS President Marinda Li Wu, Ph.D. “ACS is proud to announce that leading chemistry educators are stimulating the next generation of scientists to think in new ways to develop new, environmentally sensitive products and processes so that our Earth can continue to sustain us all.”The winners of the ACS-CEI Award for Incorporation of Sustainability into Chemistry Education:
Richard H. Jarmon, Ph.D., College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Ill.
Andrew Jorgensen, Ph.D., University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio
Resa Kelly, Ph.D., San Jose State University, San Jose, Calif.
Cristina Chang, San Jose State University, San Jose, Calif.

Recent News from the Green Movement

Ever wondered how much it would cost to procure a new war ship to sail the seas, bully developing countries and enter their territory illegally as seen recently in Papua New Guinea? How about a cool $33.4 million. That’s how much Rainbow Warrior III cost, the latest addition to Greenpeace’s crusading fleet in their perpetual war against the developing world. Curiously, despite all of their rhetoric on conservation and protecting the environment, Greenpeace’s activists appear to say nothing about how this new war ship is powered. As we have referred to previously, the Rainbow Warrior III relies on “bunker” oil, a fuel that the Guardian’s John Vidal described as “one of the dirtiest fuels in the world.” So as Greenpeace ramps up media activity to promote its latest warship, let’s remind every media outlet that if any of us need a lecture on how to preserve the environment it’s probably the folks behind the wheel of the Rainbow Warrior III.Amidst the ongoing Congressional scrutiny surrounding the collapse of Solyndra, another story regarding another White House-led bailout piqued our interested last week. According to a new book, environmental activist and heir to the Kennedy dynasty, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. used contacts at the Department of Energy to receive billions of dollars from U.S. taxpayers to bailout BrightSource, a ‘green’ energy company he maintains a majority stake in. What’s more, the fact that a former BrightSource employee was in charge of distributing ‘green’ energy grants at DOE has only added to the controversy. As the White House comes under more pressure to address the collapse of Solyndra, the American people must call for more action to ensure that yet more taxpayers’ dollars are not wasted on ill-advised green energy schemes that only appear to benefit the well connected. Is business heading towards a green revolution? According to The Economist it most certainly is with more businesses seeing “profits in greenery,” investing in emissions-reducing technology that “will pay for themselves within three years.” But is this all just a one way street? Not everyone is convinced. Earlier this year there was a fascinating piece on how moves towards energy efficiency can actually end up making the environment much worse off than before. Why? Because greater energy savings actually encourage more consumption elsewhere. Thus “the overall result can be what’s called “backfire”: more energy use than would have occurred without the improved efficiency.” What’s more the economic benefits may also be highly questionable, with some analysts claiming that green investments actually destroy, rather than create, jobs. This begs the question—is “greenery” just one big expensive PR initiative? Times are tough at the Sierra Club. Coupled with a declining membership and what appears to have been the forced resignation of Chairman Carl Pope, the organization is in disarray, split between those who wish to take a slightly more pragmatic approach and the raw environmental ideologues. Despite being a member of the Sierra Club for 40 years, Pope was forced out because he had helped launch initiatives to help boost American manufacturing. Now as a co-author of California’s ruinous Proposition 65 and a stoic opponent of coal-fired power plants, Pope is hardly a friend of American job creators. But Pope’s wish to do work with business, especially the manufacturing sector, appears to have been the last straw for an organization more defined by its aggressive green ideology that any desire to see more Americans in work. Be sure to look out for our next newsletter as we uncover the dirty tricks and stealth campaigning of some of the world’s most notorious environmental activists.
