ELDORADO Selects AdaCore’s QGen for Critical Medical Applications

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 15 dicembre 2019

AdaCore announced that The ELDORADO Research Institute of Brazil (ELDORADO) has selected the QGen model-based code generation and verification toolsuite to support research and development of safety-critical medical device software. These applications demand high reliability and currently include a cardiac pacemaker as well as perfusion systems for cardiac surgery and chemotherapy.
ELDORADO develops products for the medical industry, which, like most sectors of the globalized economy, is under great pressure to be innovative, competitive and profitable. Based on the underlying life science, medical device development uses finite and hybrid automata to define the behavior of systems that interact with living organisms. This is an effective engineering solution, but by no means trivial when human lives are at stake. To ensure that the device design is correct, mathematical models and simulations are used for analysis and validation.
QGen — AdaCore’s model-based engineering tool which generates SPARK or MISRA C code from a safe subset of Simulink® and Stateflow® models — has allowed the ELDORADO team to focus on understanding design issues and simulating potential solutions. By using the know-how already acquired in MATLAB® and Simulink® software, and integrating the code generated by QGen in a robust and verifiable way, ELDORADO engineers can specify the system behavior at a high level of abstraction while achieving an optimized solution at the firmware level.

AWS Announces Amazon Sumerian

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 29 novembre 2017

Customers in many industries are adopting VR and AR technologies to build realistic virtual environments, or overlay virtual objects on the real world, for a range of applications, including training simulations, virtual concierge services, enhanced online shopping experiences, virtual house or land tours, and much more. Until now, creating realistic virtual environments, or “scenes,” required specialized skills and the use of multiple different tools for disciplines such as 3D modeling, environmental design, animation, lighting effects, audio editing, and more. And then, once a VR or AR application is ready, developers must learn and implement unique specifications and deployment processes for each of the major hardware providers. Amazon Sumerian solves these challenges by providing a web-based editor that developers can use to easily and quickly create professional-quality scenes, and a visual scripting tool to build the logic that controls how the objects and characters in the scenes behave and respond to actions. Amazon Sumerian also makes it easy to build scenes where rich, natural interactions between objects, characters, and users occur through the use of AWS services such as Amazon Lex, Amazon Polly, AWS Lambda, AWS IoT, and Amazon DynamoDB.

Research on Applications for Cars in Europe

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 3 dicembre 2010

London. Recent developments in car applications for mobile platforms have led to the belief that the applications are the next big money spinner in the infotainment market. However, being priced for free, the applications act rather as marketing messengers than revenue generators. Frost & Sullivan’s recent consumer survey on infotainment, applications and HMI in Europe reveals that navigation as an application inside car and videos and games outside car are the most popular smartphone applications. Customers are highly aware of car related applications but use them less then an hour daily and expect them to be included at no cost. The Frost & Sullivan survey conclusions will be presented during an upcoming Analyst Briefing on Applications for Cars in Europe taking place on Wednesday, 1 December 2010, at 15.00 GMT. The survey was conducted across Italy, UK, Germany and France, with 1900 consumers interviewed. Praveen Chandrasekar, Program Manager for Telematics and Electric Vehicles Research, will discuss consumer perceptions and willingness to pay for apps, HMI concepts like Terminal mode and even EV related apps. Frost & Sullivan research results reveal that 50% of the total number of interviewees is interested in a solution like the Nokia Terminal mode and are ready to pay an incremental amount of close to €320 for the same. Additionally, 43% of the consumers who showed interest in a terminal mode type solution want this feature to be standard in the car. Also the survey results also clearly show that 2 areas where vehicle manufacturers and suppliers can create a revenue model are these smartphone interface solutions and apps that aid in enhancing the overall driving experience.

Telematics in electric vehicles (EVs)

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 2 aprile 2010

London Range anxiety remains the major challenge to be resolved to facilitate mass adoption of EVs in the coming years. The introduction of telematics in electric vehicles (EVs) to provide point(s) of interest (POI) and alerts packages that make the user aware of the charging environment, can resolve range anxiety. Unlike conventional vehicles for which it is still an expensive option, most hardware elements required for enabling these services will be built into the cost of the EV. An EV driver will only pay an incremental amount for services included in the subscription they pay for battery leasing and energy plans. New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (http://www.automotive.frost.com), Strategic Market and Technology Assessment of Telematics Applications for Electric Vehicles, finds that telematics will have a penetration of more than 80 per cent of all new EVs sold by 2015. Smart navigation hardware will become a standard feature in all new EVs sold by 2015, however users will face additional service costs that are bundled along with energy subscription plans. The most important telematics service will be to provide charging environment-related POIs like the location of the next charging station and the ability to book that charging station. Other significant telematics services will include connecting to the battery and knowing the state of charge. These services will enter the market first. Several OEMs, including Renault, Nissan and GM, are currently developing ingenious telematics concepts for their upcoming EV models like the Fluence, LEAF and Chevrolet Volt. Their real challenge, however, will be to ensure mass market adoption of EVs while providing adequate infrastructure support. Moreover, as EVs will remain niche products for a majority of the conventional OEMs, it remains to be seen whether they will incur development expenses or invest the time to create dedicated telematics concepts for their EVs. This will indirectly impact the involvement of traditional telematics companies in the EV initiative. Strategic Market and Technology Assessment of Telematics Applications for Electric Vehicles is part of the Automotive & Transportation Growth Partnership Services programme, which also includes research in the following markets: Global Trend Analysis of Passenger Vehicle Telematics and Infotainment Market – 2009 Edition, Strategic Analysis of The European Market for Low Cost OEM Navigation Systems, and Comparative Analysis of the European, North American, Chinese, South Korean and Indian Telematics Markets. All research services included in subscriptions provide detailed market opportunities and industry trends that have been evaluated following extensive interviews with market participants.

MBA program business school

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 13 gennaio 2010

London Hult International Business School announced today that applications for its MBA program had more than doubled due to an improved sentiment about the global economy. Overall applications for Hult’s intensive one-year MBA program increased 115 percent year-on-year. The largest regional increases were seen in applications from the Americas, Europe and the Middle East which increased by 102, 165 and 132 percent respectively. In contrast, applications from Asia increased slightly less at 66 percent. Dr. Hodges commented, “The relatively low increase seen in Asia probably reflects that this region remains the most cautious in its outlook about employment prospects”. Hult’s unique global rotation program, in which students can opt to move between Boston, San Francisco, London, Dubai and Shanghai during their program also contributed to the rise in applications. An overall trend towards globalization by universities and graduate schools prompted the marked interest in Hult, who has spearheaded a strategy to become the world’s first global business school. Hult International Business School (formerly known as the Arthur D. Little School of Management) is the first global business school with operations in Boston, San Francisco, London, Dubai, and Shanghai. The School offers a range of business-focused programs including MBA, Masters and Undergraduate degrees. Hult is ranked 44th in the world and 23rd in the U.S. by The Economist, and 6th for International Mobility by the Financial Times. The School is a fully accredited member of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Association of MBAs. http://www.hult.edu

Arm and AVR32 products

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 3 giugno 2009

San Jose, California. Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) announced the SAM3U, the industry’s first ARM(R) Cortex(TM)-M3 Flash microcontroller integrating high speed (480 Mbps) USB Device-and-Transceiver, 4-bit 192 Mbps SDIO/SDCard 2.0, 8-bit 384 Mbps MMC 4.3 Host and 48 Mpbs SPI interfaces on-chip. This connectivity, together with the SAM3U’s 96 MHz/1.25 DMIPS/MHz operating frequency, makes the SAM3U the unique Cortex-M3 device suited to applications with intensive communications requirements, such high speed gateways in industrial, medical, data processing and consumer applications. The introduction of the SAM3U expands Atmel’s 32-Bit MCU portfolio consisting of ARM and AVR32 products. To fully exploit the SAM3U’s high speed communications peripherals, the device is built around a high data-bandwidth architecture with a 5-layer bus matrix, 23 DMA channels and distributed on-chip memory including up to 52k Bytes of SRAM split in three blocks and up to 256k Bytes of Flash in two banks. The dual bank Flash offers in-application programming (IAP) where one memory bank is written with a new version of the firmware while the processor executes from the other bank. A programmable boot feature enables switching between the two Flash banks at the next MCU reboot. Jacko Wilbrink, Atmel’s Marketing Director for ARM-based Microcontrollers, commented, “Atmel was the first to adapt USB Full Speed in its ARM Flash MCUs as a de-facto standard peripheral and we are now driving the deployment of USB High Speed in the embedded space. USB Full Speed at 12 Mbps displace the UART; USB High Speed at 480 Mbps has the potential to replace parallel wire interconnections, reducing cost, improving reliability and improving EMI characteristics.”
Atmel is a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of microcontrollers, advanced logic, mixed-signal, nonvolatile memory and radio frequency (RF) components. Leveraging one of the industry’s broadest intellectual property (IP) technology portfolios, Atmel is able to provide the electronics industry with complete system solutions focused on consumer, industrial, security, communications, computing and automotive markets.
