Expert comment on global stock markets falling sharply

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 25 agosto 2015

Lei Mao, of Warwick Business School, is an Assistant Professor of Finance and researches the effect of information on asset pricing.Dr Lei Mao said: “The plummets in stock markets around the world are very serious, though in the short-term I think there will be a rebound because they have been over-sold. However, in the long-term, I think there is a serious problem for the global economy because new demand in China is becoming less likely, and as it is such a big engine driver for the world economy, there is a possibility this will lead to the global economy slowing down.”It seems that the Chinese economy is slowing down faster than expected, and there is expectation that the renminbi will devalue further this year. We are seeing capital drain out of the country and companies with exposure to the Chinese market will suffer. Plus, Chinese companies will start exporting more to make up for the lack of domestic demand, facilitated by the weak renminbi, which will put pressure on many emerging markets.”The Chinese Government is facing a difficult problem in policymaking: it is almost impossible to carry on economic reform to create domestic demand and upgrade productivity when the GDP statistics are so alarming.”

Journalists HIV and AIDS event organised by Caritas Internationalis and UNAIDS

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 23 febbraio 2014

caritasRome 25-26 February 2014 “Ensuring 15 million people have access to high quality antiretroviral medicine and care by 2015 will be a critical milestone in reaching everyone in need,” said Dr Luiz Loures, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director Programme, UNAIDS. “But we cannot do it alone. Historically, the services provided by the faith-based community have been a critical contribution to the millions of lives saved and they must be fully involved and engaged in efforts to expand access to HIV services. They have the capacity, the networks, the expertise and the experience. They will be one of our greatest allies in reaching people most in need.”
The consultation is related to UNAIDS’ Treatment 2015 initiative to reach at least 15 million people living with HIV with antiretroviral treatment. According to UNAIDS, at the end of 2012, 9.7 million people were accessing antiretroviral therapy in resource-limited settings.
“The event recognises the extensive HIV treatment services as well as care and support programmes offered by Caritas, other Catholic Church-based organizations, and many other Christian faith traditions, particularly in areas with limited resources,” said Caritas Internationalis Secretary General Michel Roy. “We have a common goal to provide treatment to all people living with HIV who need it.
