Storia di ieri e cronaca di oggi: La Dichiarazione Balfour

Se gli antisemiti capissero che fu proprio il loro odio ad accendere la scintilla del sionismo incomincerebbero forse ad aprire gli occhi e a capire che le infamità portate avanti nel corso dei secoli nei confronti del popolo ebraico sono servite solamente, i conti con la storia vera e non quella di comodo o da ignoranti parlano chiaro, a rafforzare l’ideale di emancipazione di un popolo in parte sradicato dalla sua terra. Sì, in parte, perché nonostante quello che continua ad urlare ai quattro venti la propaganda araba, la presenza ebraica nella regione c’è sempre stata e in alcune zone, Gerusalemme compresa, gli ebrei sono stati per molto tempo la maggioranza. Per parlare della dichiarazione Balfour, questo è il tema dell’articolo, bisogna però fare dei passi indietro nel tempo e arrivare a Parigi il 13 ottobre del 1894 quando il capitano Alfred Dreyfus, un eroe dal quale sia il nostro sito che la nostra pagina Facebook prendono il nome, fu ingiustamente accusato di tradimento. Ufficiale di artiglieria ebreo con origini alsaziane assegnato allo Stato Maggiore dell’esercito francese, Alfred Dreyfus fu accusato di spionaggio a favore dell’Impero Tedesco e arrestato. Il processo si tenne in corte marziale tra il 19 e il 22 dicembre, e anche se fu celebrato a porte chiuse la puzza di antisemitismo filtrò fra gli stipiti di quelle porte andando a interessare diverse redazioni dei giornali dell’epoca che scrissero molto sul caso creando un clima di odio dilagante che non solo serviva a condannare Dreyfus, ma anche per accusare l’intera comunità ebraica francese. A seguire quel processo c’era però anche Theodor Herzl che era il corrispondente da Parigi del giornale Neue Freie Presse che ebbe così modo di seguire l’affare Dreyfus e capire quanto l’odio per gli ebrei fosse radicato nella società europea. Proprio perché seguì il processo antisemita per antonomasia Theodor Herzl, che non era un ebreo religioso ma laico e abbastanza assimilato nella cultura e nella società dell’epoca, capì che l’unica via d’uscita da una situazione insostenibile, e i campi di sterminio erano ancora lontani nel tempo, era la creazione di uno Stato degli Ebrei che garantisse la difesa e la sicurezza di un popolo da duemila anni ‘ospite’ mai gradito. Der Judenstaat (Lo stato Ebraico), il saggio che scrisse dopo quella esperienza e sul quale si basa l’idea stessa del movimento sionistico fu pubblicato nel 1896 e appoggiava l’idea che si creasse uno stato ebraico che sottraesse gli Ebrei alle persecuzioni antisemite.Il sionismo, o ritorno a Sion, nome biblico della terra di Israele, nasce dunque come risposta politica e culturale a una delle più famose infamità antisemite. I pogrom zaristi del’800 e dei primi del ‘900 convinsero sempre di più gli ebrei a trasferirsi in quello che all’epoca era un territorio completamente abbandonato, paludoso e riscattato a carissimo prezzo dai proprietari terrieri per bonificarlo con sacrifici che sono entrati nell’epopea della storia ebraica. La dichiarazione Balfour del 2 novembre 1917, di seguito riportata, altro non è che la presa di coscienza di una situazione di fatto già attiva sul territorio.

Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions

A leading developer and operator of infrastructure projects for the college and university market, has reached financial close on the third phase of Northside, a mixed-use student housing community for The University of Texas at Dallas. The $38M expansion of the development with partners Dallas-based developer Wynne/Jackson and equity partner Star America will add an additional 370 beds to the community. The third phase of the project will include mid-rise apartments located on a 5-acre lot adjacent to Phase 2, as part of the dynamic Northside community that serves the more than 25,000 students, faculty, staff and young professionals of the University and greater Richardson, TX area. Upon completion, the apartments will be leased and managed by Balfour Beatty Communities, as with the Phase 1 and 2 units.The project will be built by Dallas-based Andres Construction, with Architecture Demarest as the lead design firm—the same firms responsible for the successful delivery of Phase 2. The project broke ground earlier this month and is expected to be delivered in July 2020 to accommodate occupancy for the 2020/2021 school year. “The first two phases of the Northside project have successfully transformed the student experience at UTD, offering dynamic living spaces and convenient access to shops, food and entertainment,” said Bob Shepko, Division President of Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions. “We are very pleased to expand of this success and partner once again with Wynne/Jackson and Star America in support of UTD’s continued growth.”

Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions Teams with IOTAS to Bring Smart Apartments to Students at Purdue University

A leading developer and operator of infrastructure projects for the college and university market, and Dallas-based developer Wynne/Jackson announced the completion of the second phase of a mixed-use development project to expand and enhance the housing options available to students at the University of Texas at Dallas. The two-phase Northside development now provides more than 1,500 University students with a modern, amenity-rich living experience at the northern edge of campus.The second phase adds 900 beds in both mid-rise apartment and townhome styles, featuring studio, one-, two-, three and four-bedroom floor plans. Northside’s second phase also brings a variety of new amenities including a second resort-style pool with spacious patio and lounge areas, a tournament sand volleyball court, a second, much larger indoor/outdoor fitness center, individual study rooms on each floor, a “sky lounge” amenity space, and more than 7,000 square feet of additional retail space.Completed in 2016, Northside’s first phase brought 600 beds with significant amenities and a parking garage, as well as a variety of restaurants and pubs and a recently opened state-of-the art 7-Eleven, to the 13 acre tract of land located north and west of the Synergy Park Boulevard and Floyd Road intersection, adjacent to the proposed site of a future DART rail station.Key participants in the Northside phase 2 development include lead equity partner Star America and the overall design/build team headed by Andres Construction featuring lead design firm Architecture Demarest, landscape architect TBG Partners, and interior designer Keaton Interiors.
