RSG Group takes its headquarters and exclusive concept to the Kurfürstendamm

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 5 aprile 2019

Berlin. After a decade of being based in Berlin and more than 20 years of company history, the RSG Group and the staff it employs there will be moving from Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg to Charlottenburg in 2021. For Rainer Schaller, founder and CEO of the RSG Group, this represents a huge step in the Group’s history: “Over the past twelve years, we have grown from five to around 300 employees at our Berlin location, and in the process our office has become like a second home. In these times when work is becoming ever less tied to particular locations and hours, I believe that pleasant spaces in which to spend time represent the primary factor for success when it comes to successful office planning, so that all staff feel at ease and teams are formed organically.” With the Kudamm Eck on the Kurfürstendamm/corner of Joachimsthaler Straße and RFR Holding GmbH as a partner by its side, the RSG Group believes it has found just the right location for its new company headquarters in a Berlin building that is steeped in tradition. As early as the 1970s, the building’s illuminated billboard measuring 300 m², which was enormous for the time, represented a huge draw and was a worthy imitation of those that inspired it in New York’s Times Square.
With almost two million customers, RSG Group GmbH is the world’s innovation leader in the areas of fitness and lifestyle. We are now active at around 300 locations in 48 countries. Among others, our strong brands and future-oriented concepts include McFIT, High5, the JOHN REED family (JOHN REED Fitness Music Club, JOHN REED Women’s Club, JOHN’S BOOTCAMP, THE REED), CYBEROBICS, LOOX, Qi², McFIT Models, Steven Baker, THE MIRAI and our artist management agency TIGERPOOL. With our varied portfolio, we ensure we remain a key component of our customers’ active everyday lives.
First of all, state-of-the-art office environments are to take shape over eleven floors and 19,500 square meters, with all of these designed specifically to meet the needs of the RSG Group. There will therefore no longer be small, individual offices, and instead intelligent software will control sharing concepts as well as the distribution of flexible workspaces. Wood, concrete, marble and plants will shape the appearance of the new company headquarters. On top of this, there will also be several individually adaptable rooms, which can be adjusted in terms of light and sound in line with the relevant content of meetings or personal moods, and which will enhance the corporate culture and the values system of the RSG Group.
On top of all this, it is also here that the RSG Group will be opening its first – and for now, at least in Germany, its only – premium concept. “At the end of 2019 we will enter the American market and launch our first Fitness & Social Club in Los Angeles. I am thoroughly convinced that this high-level brand is the perfect fit for Berlin’s City West and for this location in particular”, Schaller continues. The facilities will include not only fitness and wellness, with cold chambers and a driving range for golf players, but also premium gastronomy, impressive hotel suites, a spectacular panoramic roof terrace, and an exclusive design and ambiance that has never been seen before. The building is being let by the RFR Holding GmbH, whose portfolio includes the Chrysler Building in New York, for example, as well as the CENTRUM Group. When selecting their tenants, it was particularly important to the Group to choose a concept that would really get people talking about the Kudamm Eck once again. “We believe our visions will be realized in the best way possible with the RSG Group”, says Dr. Alexander Koblischek, Managing Director of RFR Management. “For this very prominent location in particular, we deliberately sought a suitably strong partner. The RSG Group stands for progress, and as the world’s leading innovation leader in the areas of fitness and lifestyle, it is set to realize an extraordinary concept here in Berlin”, adds Dr. Alexander Koblischek. The renovation work will begin in 2020, with the opening scheduled for 2021.

New EWG study: Germany falls behind on its climate targets Zero-carbon economy needed to meet Paris Agreement

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 7 novembre 2016

berlinoBerlin – Germany’s current climate targets are too weak and fall short of meeting the Paris Climate Agreement. Meanwhile, the German government is on track to missing even these weak climate targets, a new study by the Energy Watch Group and the Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas (ASPO) Germany shows. The Paris Agreement is entering into force today. Yet, the former climate leader Germany is most likely to take off to the world climate conference COP22 in Marrakesh without a Climate Action Plan in place – and is turning into a climate sinner.“The federal government needs to completely rewrite its Energy Concept and climate targets. The greenhouse gas emission reduction target of 80-95% by 2050 compared to 1990 levels is inadequate to meet the Paris targets”, Hans-Josef Fell, co-author of the study, President of the Energy Watch Group, and Member of the German Parliament 1998-2013 says.
“Current climate protection measures do not bring about any significant emissions reduction. Global temperature is increasing at unprecedented speed. Given the consequences we already observe today, any further increase of global temperatures – 1.5°C or less – should be unacceptable. The target should be a cooling to preindustrial levels”, Fell adds.
The new study ‘German Climate Policy – From Leader to Laggard’ proves that the emissions reduction pathway in Germany has been surpassed every year since 2010. Especially the transport, electricity and agricultural sectors have contributed to this transgression. According to the government projections, in its most ambitious scenario, the transport sector for example will exceed the set 2035 targets by a striking 91%.“The emissions reduction pathway from 2010 was already exceeded years ago. With the new more ambitious targets of the Paris Agreement in place, additional and stronger measures are now needed. The aim should be a zero-carbon economy by 2030”, Jörn Schwarz, author of the study and chairman of ASPO Germany says.
A global zero-carbon economy should go hand in hand with the creation of effective carbon sinks and requires a range of measures on the policy and technical level. The study shows that 100% renewable energy as well as a functioning circular economy is essential. The study authors recommend including climate protection into the constitution; creating incentives for private investments into climate change protection; and promoting research and education in this field.
“This study clearly shows that the current German energy policy removes any possibility to meet the Paris climate targets. Compared to the ambitious measures of other countries, Germany is increasingly lagging behind on its climate protection action. The federal government is jeopardizing the livelihoods of current and future generations, and the competitive advantage of the country“, Dr. Volker Quaschning, Professor for regenerative energy systems at HTW Berlin, and peer reviewer of the study says. The study is currently only available in German. You can find it here.

berlinoBerlin.

International conference with leading China scholars

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 17 giugno 2016

berlinoBerlin. From June 24 to 25 June in Berlin, MERICS will host an international conference with leading China scholars to discuss changes in Chinese leadership style, structures and processes since 2013. Since Xi Jinping took the reins of the Chinese Communist Party and as President of the People’s Republic of China, the country’s domestic and foreign politics have undergone considerable changes. China has become more assertive as an international actor. It has launched new diplomatic initiatives centring on large infrastructure projects, while at the same time contributing to tense relations with many of its neighbouring countries. At home, several pieces of security-related legislation have further constrained the activities of both domestic as well as foreign civil actors.Participating scholars’ expertise covers a wide variety of issue areas, ranging from economic policy making to cyberspace politics, and from societal control to military modernization. The conference participants will share their expertise in the form of concise essays, which MERICS will publish as an essay collection: the MERICS Paper on China No. 1 – “China’s core executive: leadership styles, structures and processes under Xi Jinping”.This essay collection offers the most comprehensive, authoritative and up-to-date account of the changes to China’s core executive under Xi Jinping through its analysis of developments in different policy areas. One observation is dominant – China has moved in further in the direction of top-down, autocratic policy making. The authors – among them renowned experts such as Roderick Mac Farquhar, Barry Naughton, Joseph Fewsmith, You Ji, Victor Shih, and Anthony Saich – discuss the effects of this on current policymaking and policy outcomes, as well as offering a thought-provoking look into the future. What happens if Xi Jinping fails with his overall reform agenda? What if he succeeds in strengthening the control of the party and in restructuring the Chinese economy? Will China’s IT-backed authoritarianism act as a model and spread to other countries, challenging Western democratic modes of governance? Whatever the future holds, such developments will have implications not only for China, but for all its close economic and political partners. (Kerstin Lohse-Friedrich Director of Communications MERICS, Berlin)

EU promotes aquaculture at Green Week in Berlin

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 4 febbraio 2016

berlinoDid you know that aquaculture products make up a quarter of seafood consumed in the EU? Or that the EU is the 8th largest aquaculture producer in the world – even if its share is only 1.53%?
If not, you’re not alone: many people in Europe know very little about aquaculture. The European Commission is trying to change this. An important step: bringing aquaculture into schools to raise awareness among children and teenagers, Europe’s future consumers of fish and seafood.
The Commission has developed a handy school kit for teachers, providing material to raise awareness of aquaculture among schoolchildren aged 12 to 18. The booklet contains information on how to integrate aquaculture into lessons and encourage pupils to learn more about aquaculture in their community. Pupils are encouraged to meet a local fish farmer or researcher and develop a project showing what they have learnt: in videos, cookbooks, experiments, webpages…
On Monday, 18 January, the Commission organised an event at the International Green Week in Berlin to promote this booklet, part of the Commission’s “Farmed in the EU” aquaculture campaign, among German aquaculture stakeholders and educators.
Two German schools took part in testing the school kit in 2015 and used the event to share their – largely positive – experiences. In addition participants learned about aquaculture in Germany and the EU, and about future areas of research.
Both educators and aquaculture experts proved enthusiastic about using the “Farmed in the EU” school kit to introduce young people to aquaculture. But they also agreed that more needed to be done to encourage networking between the education and aquaculture communities and to match schools with aquaculture experts from the region. Gaining further support from both sides will be crucial to disseminate the school kit across Europe and make sure a maximum of schools benefit.
Visitors at the International Green Week still have the chance to find out more about the “Farmed in the EU” campaign, the school kit and European aquaculture in general at the European Commission stand themed “From Farm to Fork” in the ErlebnisBauernhof Hall (Hall 3.2.). There, they can not only learn about European agriculture and food safety, but also about fish farming, how it benefits the environment and human health, and how it contributes to a sustainable supply of fisheries products in the EU. A quiz and other games for visitors of all ages introduce fish farming to a wider audience. (photo: Karmenu Vella)

This would enable her to convince Obama, together with his G7 colleagues, to make the transition to 100% renewable energy by mid-century.”The G7 meeting in Elmau is six months ahead of the UN climate change conference in Paris, where nations have set a deadline for a global agreement.

Global Female Leaders 2015

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 15 aprile 2015

berlinoBerlin. “If women are expected to do the same work as men, we must teach them the same things.“ The author of this quotation, the Nobel Prize winner in Literature Saul Bellow, would have been a welcomed guest at the international conference “Global Female Leaders Summit 2015”. According to the motto “Connect. Explore. Co-Create“ female decision makers from all over the world meet at the economic summit mainly targeted at female managers in order to expand their international contacts, build new networks, exchange experiences and also to function as role models for young women. Thus, the conference organised by the Management Circle AG sends a clear message at the time when women are still underrepresented in executive positions throughout the world.
During the two and a half day summit from 20 to 22 April 2015 high-calibre expert panel as well as keynote speakers will discuss topics that are equally relevant to female and male managers.

World Jewish Congress to meet in Berlin in wake of sharp rise of anti-Semitism across Europe

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 6 settembre 2014

berlinoNEW YORK/BRUSSELS – A sharp rise in anti-Semitic attacks and the growing hostility towards Israel will be among the subjects to be discussed at a meeting of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) in Berlin, which will take place from 14 to 16 September 2014. The WJC Governing Board will be chaired by David de Rothschild and attended by 150 heads of Jewish communities, delegates and young Jewish diplomats from around the world. Among the guest speakers will be Germany’s Economics Minister, Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel, and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. In tribute to his lifetime efforts for reconciliation between Germans and Jews, and between Germany and Israel, the WJC’s Theodor Herzl Award will be bestowed posthumously on the late publisher Axel Springer, whose widow Friede Springer will receive it at a dinner at Berlin’s Jewish Museum on Monday, 15 September 2014.The participants will also take part in the rally against anti-Semitism organized by the Central Council of Jews in Germany in front of Berlin’s iconic Brandenburg Gate on Sunday, 14 September 2014, at 3 p.m., where German President Joachim Gauck, Chancellor Angela Merkel, and many other German leaders are expected.WJC President Ronald S. Lauder, who will be one of the speakers at the rally, said the WJC meeting in Berlin came at an important moment: “After the terrible hostilities against Jews we witnessed in the last eight weeks in Europe, following Israel’s legitimate action in the Gaza Strip, we are faced with a fundamental question: What needs to be done to ensure that the next generation of Jews has a future in Europe? This eruption of anti-Semitism has been an eye-opener for many people, and it would be wrong to go back to doing business as usual. Instead, we expect politicians and societies to address the root causes of this hatred, and to take appropriate action against it.”Reports will be given about Hamas and about the threats posed by jihadist fighters returning to their Western countries of origin. Another focus of the WJC meeting will be visits of the delegates to important Holocaust-related sites in Berlin, including the Wannsee Conference Memorial Exhibit, the ‘Gleis 17’ train platform at Berlin’s Grunewald Station from which many German Jews were deported to the Nazi death camps where there will be a wreath-laying ceremony, and to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe near the Brandenburg Gate. This will take place in the morning of Tuesday, 16 September 2014. At ‘Gleis 17’, there will be a short ceremony and Kaddish will be recited.

Frost & Sullivan: Rising Awareness of Car Sharing Concept Set to Increase Uptake

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 10 maggio 2013

LONDON Whilst Car sharing as a concept has existed for several years, the uptake rates and emergence of new players in the traditional as well as “Peer to Peer (P2P)” car sharing market has proliferated in the last 5 years. Member numbers increased by over 90 per cent between 2008 and 2012, growing from 500,000 to over 940,000. According to Frost & Sullivan, this trend is set to continue. In an upcoming web conference, entitled Car Sharing – The Voice of the Consumer, taking place on Tuesday, 14 May 2013, at 3.00 p.m. BST, Frost & Sullivan Mobility Programme Manager, Mr. Martyn Briggs, and Programme Manager, Mr. Mohamed Mubarak, will present latest findings from a customer research study on consumer profiles of members currently using car sharing services, including their preferences and aspirations for the car sharing concept in future. The idea of this voice of the consumer study was also to understand from non-members what would encourage them to join such new mobility services, as well as their idea of a ‘winning concept’.To participate in this complimentary web conference, please email Katja Feick at katja.feick@frost.com with your full contact details. Upon receipt of the above information, a registration link will be e-mailed to you. You may also register to receive a recorded version of the briefing at anytime by submitting the aforementioned contact details.A targeted survey of over 2,300 people was conducted in a total of 12 cities in the UK (London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh), France (Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and Toulouse), and Germany (Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, and Cologne). The study used the ‘Adaptive Choice Based Conjoint’ methodology that enables the possibility to create different simulations of car sharing models and generate the respective pricing and market share. The web conference will now give an overview regarding transport usage and commuting profiles, the customer’s / member’s perspective on the current and future usage of car sharing services and the willingness to pay for the service, existing car sharing member profiles, as well as familiarity, interest and adoption amongst non-members.“Our research revealed a potential for over 15 million car sharing members in Europe alone by 2020, but there is a lot of education and behavioural change amongst consumers’ mobility patterns that need to take place to achieve such growth,” outlines Mr. Briggs. “The voice of the consumer survey yielded interesting results; for example, the majority of car sharing members (53 per cent) were under 34, degree educated (67 per cent), and did not own a car (51 per cent).”The survey also illustrates that the market for P2P Car Sharing is still in its nascent stage and is expected to co-exist with traditional car sharing. The interest in using someone else’s car is higher than the interest to providing own car to be used by others. Surprisingly, there exists a correlation between the interest in becoming a car sharing member and the interest in providing the own car to be used by others. From those of the whole sample, who currently own a car and are considering joining a car sharing service, over 40 per cent would consider selling their vehicle. This underlines the continued downward trend in car ownership in major cities that adopt car sharing services. This web conference will benefit car sharing operators, and all parties interested in the perceptions of car sharing, such as automotive manufacturers, transport operators, fleet/leasing companies, and technology providers in particular, but also from transport & mobility professionals, researchers and associated media.Frost & Sullivan will be hosting its two-day interactive workshop on 19-20 June 2013 for the 5th time this year, taking place at the House of Lords and the Siemens Crystal Building in London. Day 1 will feature a high-level debate on the “Death of the car and rise of new mobility business models in an Urban Environment”. Day 2 will consist of 5 different panels, focussing on mega trends and their impact on mobility, new business models, such as mobility integration, car sharing, and new fleet/leasing models, urban logistics and online retailing, the future of public transport, including HSR, BRT buses, PRT and hybrid/electric buses, as well as autonomous driving and infrastructure trends. For more information, visit: http://www.urbanmobility.gilcommunity.com.
