Obama in Turkey

Ankara 6 April. The President Obama will lay a wreath at Ataturak’s Tomb at Anitkabir this morning.  Following the event, he will hold a one-on-one meeting with President Gul and then an expanded bilateral meeting. President Obama and President Gul will make a brief statement to the press following the bilateral meeting. Later in the afternoon, the President will deliver remarks to the Turkish Grand National Assembly at the Turkish Parliament on U.S.-Turkish relations. The President will discuss the progress of Turkey’s own democratic reforms, and will reaffirm US support of Turkey’s bid to become a member of the European Union. The President will then hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Erdogan at his office. In the evening, the President will depart Ankara for Istanbul.

Barrack Obama: weekend guidance

On Saturday morning, the President will join Chancellor Angela Merkel and other Heads of State in Kehl, Germany. They will walk across the Passarelle Mimram, a pedestrian bridge crossing the Rhine River which connects Kehl, Germany and Strasbourg, France. President Nicolas Sarkozy will meet the leaders at the center of the bridge. They will then all walk across the bridge to Strasbourg, where they will attend a tribute to NATO military personnel, including those who have fallen in service. Later in the morning, the President will attend the North Atlantic Council Summit meeting at the Palaiz de la Musique et Des Congres. In the afternoon, the President will hold a bilateral meeting with leaders of Greece. There will be a travel pool spray at the top of the meeting. The President will then hold a news conference at the Palaiz de la Musique et Des Congres. The President and the First Lady will then travel from Strasbourg to Prague, Czech Republic. They will meet with U.S. Embassy personnel on arrival. This meeting is closed press. On Sunday, the President will meet with President Klaus and Prime Minister Topolanek at the Prague Castle. He will deliver remarks at Hradcany Square. Following the speech, the President will attend the EU Summit working lunch at the Prague Congress Center.Following the lunch, President Obama, President Barroso, Prime Minister Topolanek and Prime Minister Reinfeldtwill briefly address the press pool. The President will then hold separate bilateral meetings with Spain and Poland. He will then meet with former President Havel. In the evening, the President will depart Prague for  Ankara, Turkey.Tomorrow, Mrs. Obama will join NATO spouses to tour the “Cyber Surgery Unit” at the Civil Hospital and to visit the Cathedrale de Notre Dame. On Sunday, Mrs. Obama will visit St. Vitus’s Cathedral and St. George’s Basilica with First Lady Livia Klausova. Mrs. Obama will also tour the Jewish Quarter of Prague including St. Pinka’s Synagogue, the Old Jewish Cemetery and the Old-New Synagogue. These events will be pooled press.

Obama will attend the G-20 summit

London Thursday, April 2, 2009The President Obama will attend the G-20 summit at the Excel Centre tomorrow. In the morning, he will attend the leaders breakfast, hold a bilateral meeting with leaders from South Korea, and attend the opening plenary session. There will be a pool spray at the top of the bilateral meeting. Following the G-20 leaders lunch, the President will attend the afternoon plenary session and hold separate bilateral meetings with Saudi Arabia and India.  The President will hold a news conference at the Excel Centre tomorrow evening. Tomorrow the FirstLady will join other G-20 spouses for a visit to the Royal Opera House in the morning, followed by a private lunch. In the afternoon, Mrs. Obama will visit an all girls school. Both events will be pooled press.

Vice President Biden to Travel to Latin America

The Vice President will travel to Chile and Costa Rica from March 27-30 to consult with Latin American leaders regarding the Summit of the Americas, which is scheduled for mid-April in Trinidad and Tobago. In Chile, the Vice President will attend the Progressive Governance conference, which will also be attended by the Presidents of Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay, and the Prime Ministers of Norway and the United Kingdom.  The Vice President will also be hosted by Chilean President Bachelet for a bilateral meeting.  In Costa Rica, the Vice President will be hosted by President Oscar Arias, who has invited the leaders of the other Central American nations for a joint meeting in San Jose.
