Gallery Books to Publish Blockchain Book

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 22 giugno 2018

You’ve seen it on the cover of Forbes, Fortune, New York Times Magazine, and this month’s MIT Technology Review. The technology is blockchain, and it’s the hottest thing in business. Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, in conjunction with blockchain media company Media Shower, announced today it will publish BLOCKCHAIN FOR EVERYONE by bestselling author Sir John Hargrave. “Everyone is interested in blockchain, but few understand it,” explained Hargrave. “It’s like the early days of the Web, when the technology was still geeky and hard to use. You had to explain why anyone would be interested in the Internet. This book will explain blockchain to a non-technical audience.” BLOCKCHAIN FOR EVERYONE is divided into three sections: “What is Blockchain?” explains the technology in user-friendly language, with simple analogies and humorous descriptions; “Uses for Blockchain” outlines the different applications of blockchain being developed right now; and “Blockchain’s Big Ideas” lays out the principles and philosophies for using blockchain to improve the world.“Blockchain is a world-changing technology,” said Jeremie Ruby-Strauss, Executive Editor at Gallery Books, “and this is a world-changing book. Our ambition is to build the on-ramp for a global audience to enter the exciting world of blockchain.” Ruby-Strauss acquired North American, Open Market, and Audio rights from Cathy Hemming at Cathy D. Hemming Literary Agency in association with McCormick Literary. Each format will have its own bonus material, just as with Sir John’s last book, MIND HACKING. BLOCKCHAIN FOR EVERYONE is scheduled for publication in Spring 2019.

The International Publishers Association (IPA) has urged the mayor of Verona, Italy, to abandon a manifesto pledge to pull from circulation various books that are not aligned with his own worldview

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 10 luglio 2017

arena veronaElected to office on 25 June, Federico Sboarina’s mayoral programme commits to: Withdraw from libraries and municipal or contracted schools (including kindergartens) books and publications that promote the equivalence of the natural family and same-sex unions.IPA president Michiel Kolman wrote a letter to Mr Sboarina this week to criticize his plan and recommend he revise it, explaining:To be absolutely clear, whatever ideological compulsion lies behind your desire to censor and suppress the range of published works that the citizens of Verona can access is entirely irrelevant. I wish only to impress upon you that, in a democratic country such as Italy, it is under no circumstances acceptable to censor legally sound publications.
The IPA and its Freedom to Publish Committee denounce and reject in the strongest terms the censorship of books that you intend to impose. I hope that you will reconsider the censorial aspects of your manifesto, and opt instead to increase the diversity of opinions and ideas available on Verona’s bookshelves. This will empower and enable citizens of your magnificent city to make up their own minds about what does and does not constitute acceptable reading. The IPA’s Italian member, Associazione Italiana Editori (AIE), has also expressed dismay at Mayor Sboarina’s censorial intentions in a letter of solidarity to the Italian libraries association, Associazione Italiana Biblioteche (AIB).AIE president Ricardo Franco Levi wrote to AIB president Rosa Maiello:Whoever reacts to books he judges to be wrong by considering withdrawing, hiding or burning them, it will be our responsibility to explain how it is more useful and more gratifying to read them, write them, publish them, distribute them, sell them, choose them, lend them, and preserve them. The IPA is the world’s largest federation of national, regional and specialist publishers’ associations. Its membership comprises 70 organisations from 60 countries in Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe and the Americas. Through its members, IPA represents thousands of individual publishers around the world who service markets containing more than 5.6 billion people.Based in Geneva, Switzerland, IPA represents the interests of the publishing industry in international fora and wherever publishers’ interests are at stake. The IPA promotes and defends copyright and freedom to publish, as well as literacy and reading.IPA is an accredited non-governmental organisation (NGO) enjoying consultative relations with the United Nations. Arriva “Books on the Beach”

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 10 agosto 2016

“Innovation with purpose” at the IFC 2015

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 24 settembre 2015

europa-261011-cDelivering his latest talk on the power of purpose and innovation for the first time in Europe, Dan Pallotta will be giving his powerful, thought-provoking insights at the opening plenary at the International Fundraising Congress in Holland on 20 – 23rd October.Dan is an entrepreneur, author and humanitarian activist who once said that “everything the donating public has been taught about giving is dysfunctional”. His TED Talk was viewed more than 3.6 million times and is one of the 100 most-viewed TED Talks of all time. In his fantastic new talk, he challenges us to think about and question what it really takes to innovate – the kinds of questions that can change entire organisations.Dan delivered the closing plenary at IFC 4 years ago to a standing ovation. As he turns to this poignant subject he says: “We’re asked to innovate without really addressing the purpose of the innovation at the outset. Is its purpose only to obey what the cutting-edge business books say we should be doing?” “I wanted to take a counter-cultural look at the subject. The talk addresses themes and questions around great innovation coming from great purpose, frustration being the fuel for innovation, the power of an idea whose time has come over an idea whose time has been forced, the role of patience and presence in innovation, the power of commitment and if you’re not taking risks, the risks will take you.”According to Kyla Shawyer, chief executive of the Resource Alliance, the many challenges facing charities today are clear and innovation is an integral part of not just surviving but thriving.“To innovate is to future proof your organisation. No matter what sector you are in, innovation is an essential part of your organisation. Challenging the status quo and endeavouring to create new ways to engage with existing and new supporters is what fosters genuine commitment to your cause and translates to results on the ground.”“An important ingredient of the IFC is sharing experience – innovation can come from the most unexpected places? It’s the perfect platform for interacting with some of the brightest thinkers and passionate change-makers from around the world.”
Pallotta is best known for creating the multi-day charitable event industry, and a new generation of philanthropists with the AIDS Rides and Breast Cancer 3-Day events, which raised $582 million in nine years. Dan is the founder and Chief Humanity Officer of Advertising for Humanity, which helps foundations and philanthropists transform the growth potential of their favourite grantees. He is also the founder and President of the Charity Defense Council, a new leadership movement dedicated to transforming the way the donating public thinks about charity and change.
He is the author of Uncharitable – How Restraints on Nonprofits Undermine Their Potential, Charity Case: How the Nonprofit Community Can Stand Up for Itself and Really Change the World, and When Your Moment Comes – a Guide to Fulfilling Your Dreams. The Resource Alliance is also delighted to announce two new plenary guest speakers – Alberto Cairo, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross orthopaedic programme in Afghanistan, whoes work over 22 years, providing rehabilitation for disabled people and victims of the conflict in that country earnt him a Henry Dunant Medal, the highest award of the Red Cross/Red Crescent movement. Also presenting is Mark Horvath, founder of transformative storytelling platform “Invisible People”, which leverages the power of video and the reach of social media to share the unfiltered stories of homeless people in the US. With this spectacular line-up, this year’s IFC 2015 is not one to miss.

Books for children

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 18 giugno 2011
