More telemedicine services are needed in Canada, Women on Web data shows

New research conducted with Women on Web data demonstrates that women and pregnant people in Canada continue to encounter various obstacles in accessing abortion care. The data was collected during the global outbreak of COVID-19 and shows more and more women preferring the privacy and convenience that telemedicine provides over in-person services.In January 2021, Women on Web (WoW) opened its online consultations for abortion to Canadian users. WoW is an international telemedicine abortion service that works in restrictive settings and thus does not ordinarily service countries such as Canada. For research purposes, however, WoW opened up consultations to Canadians for evaluation. The research shows that, although Canada has no legal restrictions on abortion, there are many reasons for Canadians to seek care through Women on Web. Between January and July 2021, we received 137 unique help requests. As part of the consultation, people were asked about their reasons for seeking online abortion services. A majority of Canadian users cited multiple reasons for accessing Women on Web remote abortion services, including being more comfortable at home (50%), preferring to self-manage their abortion (48%), and secrecy/privacy (48%). More than two-thirds (69%) preferred to access abortion through online services. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated barriers and made existing abortion services harder to access. Abortion providers in Canada therefore either began offering telemedicine abortion for the first time or expanded existing telemedicine access.WoW research reveals, however, that telemedicine services should not be merely a response to a pandemic or service interruptions, but rather an opportunity to improve the quality of services and provide care that corresponds to the needs and preferences of women and pregnant people needing abortions. Women on Web’s research report will be published during Digital Health Week , November 29 – December 3, 2021. In the spirit of International Safe Abortion Day, this research further demonstrates that not only is telemedicine safe and effective but it’s a method that is more and more preferred by women and pregnant people to best address their individual needs and autonomy. Nord America: insolvenze di nuovo in crescita in USA e Canada

Tornano a crescere, dopo quasi un decennio di flessione, i livelli d’insolvenza negli USA, che dovrebbero attestarsi su un +4% quest’anno. A questo fa da corollario un generale rallentamento della performance economica statunitense, che continua a gravare su esportazioni e investimenti, cui si aggiunge la vulnerabilità delle economie canadese e messicana, all’interno di un contesto commerciale volatile ed incerto. E’ questo in sintesi lo scenario delineato dal “Rapporto Paese Atradius – Paesi del Nord America – Febbraio 2020” che evidenza una crescente sfiducia delle imprese statunitensi, a causa di una compressione dei profitti data dai maggiori costi di importazione e dai minori investimenti e di un debito societario in crescita che, unito ad un deterioramento del merito creditizio delle aziende, sarebbe alle base del peggioramento delle insolvenze confermato per quest’anno. L’analisi condotta da Atradius evidenzia tra l’altro che, nonostante i segnali di ottimismo relativi alla politica commerciale in Nord America, che proseguono dalla firma dell’accordo USMCA, continuano alcune vulnerabilità che tengono sotto pressione la crescita economica della regione.In Canada, frena la crescita del PIL (dal +1,7% nel 2019 al +1,4% nel 2020) a causa del rallentamento dell’economia statunitense che colpisce soprattutto le esportazioni dal Canada verso gli Stati Uniti, principale mercato di destinazione dell’export canadese (75%). In Messico, si prevede un miglioramento del PIL al +1% nel 2020 dopo la stagnazione del 2019, ma persiste una minore fiducia delle imprese e una contrazione degli investimenti privati, dovuti in parte alle precedenti tensioni con gli USA in tema di immigrazione. Elanco Sells Victoria, PEI, Canada R&D Facility to The Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada

Elanco Animal Health Incorporated (NYSE: ELAN) has signed an agreement to sell its Victoria, Prince Edward Island (PEI) aqua research and development facility to The Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada, a leading aquaculture R&D and contract research services company with an established presence in PEI. The site was added to the Elanco footprint as part of the Novartis acquisition in 2015, and a source of innovative products and solutions to some of the industry’s greatest needs. Elanco will shift this important capability into its other existing R&D facilities.

Acerus Provides Update on Temporary Unavailability of Natesto in Canada and South Korea

Acerus Pharmaceuticals Corporation (TSX:ASP, OTCQB:ASPCF) today provided an update on the temporary unavailability of NATESTO® in Canada and South Korea, following the previous announcement of the voluntary replacement of certain NATESTO® lots released on the Canadian and South Korean markets.Acerus made minor modifications to the manufacturing process that appear to have resolved the previously identified issues and has produced a batch of NATESTO® (the “Revised Batch”). While Acerus believed the changes would have been classified by Health Canada as level III, thereby requiring only an annual notification update to Health Canada and allowing for product to be released in Q4-2019, Health Canada, after much deliberation, classified the modifications as level I, requiring the submission of a Supplemental New Drug Submission (“SNDS”) prior to the release of the Revised Batch in the Canadian market. In the event that Health Canada utilizes the full regulatory allotted time for reviewing a SNDS, Acerus would expect the Revised Batch to be released in the Canadian Market in Q1-2021. Acerus continues to work with Health Canada to facilitate an expeditious review of the SNDS and minimize market disruptions.At this time, the current supply of NATESTO® to the United States is not affected by this situation. Acerus is working with its South Korean partner to determine whether the Revised Batch can be released in the South Korean market and, if so, under what timeframes.

“Ieri, ho partecipato, da Roma, grazie ai mezzi di telecomunicazione, alla riunione del Coordinamento consolare italiano in Canada che si è tenuta ad Ottawa, convocata dall’Ambasciatore Taffuri presso la sua Residenza.Un incontro molto costruttivo e cordiale che ha affrontato i temi legati all’erogazione dei servizi consolari, al rapporto tra i Comites e la rete diplomatico-consolare ed alla promozione della lingua e cultura italiana in Canada.
Nel mio intervento ho evidenziato che bisogna costruire delle sinergie virtuose tra le varie istituzioni presenti all’estero e, in primis, potenziare la collaborazione tra rete diplomatico-consolare e i Comites per costruire un Sistema-Italia all’altezza dei nostri connazionali all’estero e delle potenzialità dell’Italia. Inoltre, ho fatto notare che per quanto riguarda la promozione linguistica si sta lavorando sulla strada giusta ricordando che la promozione della nostra bella lingua non è soltanto assistenza linguistica ai connazionali e ai loro figli, cosa che è fondamentale, e da mamma con 3 figli lo capisco benissimo, ma è anche diplomazia culturale per cui la promozione linguistica si collega benissimo all’arte, alla musica e all’enogastronomia. Un connubio positivo che ho potuto sperimentare grazie ad una iniziativa che avevo promosso, anni fa, mettendo insieme la scuola Marconi di New York con altre due scuole di Roma per iniziative formative. Ed abbiamo avuto riscontri ottimi anche a dimostrazione che è possibile e doveroso sviluppare le iniziative di diplomazia culturale dato il nostro vissuto storico artistico.Quindi ho auspicato la costruzione di tutte quelle sinergie, con al centro la Comunità italiana, necessarie a realizzare una grande promozione del Sistema-Italia, dove la scuola italiana, contemplando insegnamenti anche in francese e inglese, possa essere il fiore all’occhiello!Alla fine della riunione ho rinnovato la mia disponibilità a lavorare insieme sulle questioni di interesse della Comunità italiana in Canada a cominciare da eventuali correttivi da apportare alla legge di bilancio, ormai prossima all’esame del Parlamento.” Lo ha dichiarato l’On. Acerus Announces Temporary Unavailability of NATESTO® in Canada and South Korea

Acerus Pharmaceuticals Corporation (TSX:ASP, OTCQB:ASPCF) today announced that it will voluntarily replace certain NATESTO® lots released in the Canadian and South Korean markets, which is expected to cause temporary shortages in those markets.
Acerus has identified four commercial lots of NATESTO® released in the Canadian and South Korean markets that were found to be non-conforming during long-term stability studies, even though such lots were fully in-specification at the time of release. This post-release non-conformity is not harmful to the patient, but may result in difficulties in dispensing. The temporary shortage of the product in the Canadian and South Korean markets is expected to continue until the end of October 2019. Acerus has noted this shortage on the Drug Shortages Canada website and will continue to dialogue with Health Canada to identify solutions to try to minimize the disruption to patients in the affected markets.
