The Collection of Drue Heinz

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 10 Maggio 2019

London. A remarkable and rare opportunity for collectors and decorators alike; Christie’s London will present The Collection of Drue Heinz: Townhouses in London and New York with Interiors by John Fowler and Renzo Mongiardino, on 4 June in a dedicated collection sale. The collection of Drue Heinz reflects the innate eye and refined personal taste with which she assembled this incredible collection, which was largely amassed during her marriage to H.J. (Jack) Heinz II – CEO of the H. J. Heinz Company – from 1953 until his death in 1987. Mrs Heinz (1915-2018) was also a renowned philanthropist and throughout her life she enjoyed nothing more than taking on new endeavours, particularly those which helped to advance the work of a wide spectrum of emerging artists. Her spirit is very much reflected in her collection, and, as such, the proceeds from its sale will go to support her beloved Hawthornden Literary Retreat as well as various other charitable projects. From these and other benefactions one takes away the overall impression of a relentlessly energetic person who took a strong personal interest in projects that she felt were important and in particular ones which nourished the human spirit. Further highlights from the wider collection are being sold in Christie’s specialist sales throughout the year, including an important group of fine art to be offered in Christie’s Spring sales of Impressionist and Modern Art, Post-War and Contemporary and Latin American Art.

Christie’s: The Collectors That Defined London’s Art World From The 1950s To Present Day

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 27 settembre 2016

Christie's.pngLondon – This autumn Christie’s will offer works from three private collections that trace the development and trajectory of the London art scene from the 1950s to present day. This begins with the collection of Brian Sewell, the Evening Standard’s late art critic, who was a Specialist in the Old Master Department at Christie’s in the 1950s and 60s, having graduated in Art History at the Courtauld Institute, and nurtured a keen appetite for Renaissance works that span the 1500s through to Modern British artists of the mid-20th century. He built up a distinctive collection and 248 lots will be offered on 27 September including paintings by the Flemish artist Matthias Stomer, works on paper by the likes of Daniele da Volterra and Joseph Anton Koch, and the British Modernism of Duncan Grant and Eliot Hodgkin. One of the most influential collectors that developed London’s tastes was Leslie Waddington, who arrived in the city in 1957 and went on to become one of the most prominent fine art dealers in modern times, introducing the art world to artists from Jean Dubuffet to Christie's1.pngPatrick Caulfield, bringing the British and European aesthetic to America for the first time, and American Abstract Expressionism to London. He left an indelible mark on the history of British collecting and patronage, which is evidenced by his personal collection. Sir Nicholas Serota, Director of Tate, stated: “At a time when the Tate and other institutions in London were far less ambitious than today, he made his gallery in Cork Street a place where young artists and collectors could receive an education in modern art”. Works by Jean Dubuffet, Agnes Martin and Milton Avery will be included alongside Patrick Caulfield, Sir Michael Craig-Martin and Sir Anthony Caro.Completing this survey of the development of London taste-making and impact on the international art world, Abso-bloody-lutely!, an auction in three parts: Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening and Day Auctions (6 and 7 October) and online (4-13 October), will present art that encapsulates the two decades in London that heralded the arrival of Tate Modern, Frieze Art Fair, Artangel and the Fourth Plinth project in Trafalgar Square. The Cranford Collection was established to nurture the capital’s artists and encourage creativity which is represented by the work of Damien Hirst, Glenn Brown, Gillian Wearing, Rachel Whiteread and Francis Alÿs, amongst others. London’s position as a global centre for art has been shaped by these visionary figures whose private collections provide a glimpse into the tastes that spanned and defined five decades in the history of the city. Julien’s Auctions Celebrates American Pop Culture with SNICKERS®

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 8 giugno 2016

Marilyn MonroeLos Angeles, California Julien’s Auctions, the world-record-breakingMarilyn Monroe2 auction house to the stars, has announced a unique opportunity for collectors to own an extraordinary piece of American Pop Culture memorabilia. This September, Julien’s Auctions will partner with SNICKERS® to offer a custom-designed dress, worn by actor Willem Dafoe in the brand’s beloved Super Bowl 50 commercial staged to mirror the famous subway grate scene from the 1955 film, “The Seven Year Itch.” All proceeds will be donated to Feeding America®, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization.Marilyn Monroe CatalogThe original dress, designed by William Travilla, became one of the most famous dresses in cinema history. For Super Bowl 50, SNICKERS® created a new spot within their famed “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” campaign, where a hungry version of the blonde bombshell transforms into a grumpy, not-trying-hard-to-be-seductive version of herself, played by legendary actor Willem Dafoe. The starlet is only transformed back into her seductive self after she receives a SNICKERS® bar to satisfy her hunger. The dress worn by Dafoe was meticulously created to match every inch and detail of the original dress worn by Marilyn Monroe. It was designed by Cherish Cullison and created by the entire team of International Pleating (Nancy, Nacera, Leon & George Kalajian and Lisa Conrad) in New York City. The team first focused on researching the history and extensive detailing of the dress, reading all available patterns and notes. Due to their extensive background in pleating, the Kalajian family at International Pleating was able to Marilyn Monroe1dissect the important details of the dress and was able to sew and finish the dress with painstaking detail and craftsmanship.Snickers® Marilyn Monroe Willem Dafoe Dress”As Marilyn Monroe would agree — great style never goes out of fashion — which is why 90 years after she was born, we are still celebrating the beloved American icon,” said Allison Miazga-Bedrick, Senior Brand Director, Mars Chocolate North America. “We know people around the world still identify with the original blonde bombshell and her role in the film, and we’re thrilled to offer up another chance for fans to own a bit of pop culture to benefit Feeding America and help the millions of Americans who are food insecure.””SNICKERS® has done an extraordinary job of creating a series of commercials that resonate with American consumers and bring about a fun and entertaining way to enjoy a SNICKERS® bar,” said Darren Julien, Founder and CEO of Julien’s Auctions. “The commercials have become so popular that they have secured an important place in pop culture history. During Super Bowl 50, actor Willem Dafoe wears a beautifully designed copy of the famous Marilyn Monroe “Seven Year Itch” dress which we found to be a perfect addition to our celebration of Marilyn Monroe auctions in November.” Recreating an iconic dress from the past wasn’t the only magic that went into the production. SNICKERS® recreated an entire 1955 city block on a soundstage in Queens, New York, to replicate the set from the film. In addition, visual effects artists spent several weeks reanimating original footage of Marilyn to create her performance in the commercial. (photos: Marilyn Monroe)

The Marrakech Art Fair

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 25 dicembre 2009

From October 9 to 11, 2010 at the Es Saadi Palace (Opening day October 8) Some forty European and Moroccan galleries will be meeting with collectors and art aficionados for three days to present their discoveries. On the agenda: modern art, contemporary art, and design, a moment’s stroll staged between the patio and garden through creations and works of art from the 20th and 21st centuries.  The launch of the Marrakech Art Fair will be accompanied by a program of cultural and artistic events: exhibitions at cultural centers, visits to artists’ workshops, discoveries of private collections, etc. An educational program on art market trends will round off these events.  To give ample attention to art de vivre, the Marrakech Art Fair is also preparing a “Tournament of the Galleries,” an art-milieu golf tournament in which the winner will receive a trophy made by a Moroccan artist.  The Marrakech Art Fair will become the main annual art market event in the Kingdom of Morocco, thus reaching beyond its borders and appearing on the international calendar of contemporary art fairs. This event was born out of collaboration between Moroccan and French players on the art market, who joined forces in order to provide Morocco with an exchange platform for gallery owners, artists, and collectors. Caroline Clough Lacoste, Henri Jobbé Duval, Brahim Alaoui, and Hicham Daoudi partnered to make this unprecedented artistic event a reality. They have the support of an honorary committee consisting of players from the local and international cultural scene. Application packets will be available starting on February 1, 2010.

London Original Print Fair

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 22 aprile 2009

print-fairLondon until 26/4/2009 Royal Academy of Arts  Burlington House Piccadilly –  Now in its 24th year, The London Original Print Fair is the longest-running specialist print fair in the world.  Prints have played an important role in the history of art. Before the invention of photography, it was through engravings that many people were introduced to great works of art, otherwise inaccessible to them. Many contemporary artists create original prints as a significant part of their oeuvre – from Tracey Emin to Howard Hodgkin, Lucian Freud to Damien Hirst. Their work sits alongside etchings by Rembrandt, Canaletto and Picasso amongst many others, all of which are for sale at the Fair.  With prints by current students and recent graduates from the Royal Academy Schools and Royal College of Art also on show, the Print Fair offers collectors at every level the opportunity to invest, with works ranging from as little as £100 up to £500,000. “Collectors are happy people” – Goethe (Image: print fair)
