Il progetto community hub della fondazione Synapsis

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 6 maggio 2020

Anthony Fauci, visionary scientist and civil servant, a precious resource for the international community

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 15 aprile 2020

Letter to President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella by Scientific Director Giuseppe Ippolito Spallanzani Hospital in Rome.
I writing to you in my position of Scientific Director of the National Institute for Infectious Diseases (INMI) Lazzaro Spallanzani in Rome According to latest news reports, Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and
Infectious Diseases (NIAID), could be fired from the task force that coordinates the U.S. government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This, if confirmed, would be disastrous news not only for the United States, but for the whole international community, facing today the most important health emergency for over a century now. Anthony Fauci is not only an exceptionally capable and loyal officer, who has served his country as director of NIAID for over thirty five years and under six presidents leadership; Anthony Fauci is one of the most important scientists in the world in the field of infectious diseases, who with his leadership, his work and his exceptional ethical drive has been a guide and a world reference point in all health emergencies of the last three decades and more. Anthony Fauci’s research has been pivotal to understand the mechanism by which HIV destroys the immune system, and has played a fundamental role in the development of treatments that make it possible for people with AIDS to live long lives and carry out an active life with fulfilling emotional and social relationships. His work was crucial in transforming AIDS from an inexorable and incurable disease, a deadly mark and source of social and moral stigma, into a controllable disease; thanks to its empathic and compassionate approach, scientific research has approached the
needs of the sick, and a new doctor-patient paradigm has emerged. Anthony Fauci was the main architect of the PEPFAR program, which since 2003 has made AIDS treatment available in developing countries, saving millions of lives, especially in sub-Saharian Africa. He has been at the forefront of all the world health emergencies of the past decades, from Ebola in 2014 and 2018, and Zika in 2016. Anthony Fauci’s work has saved the lives of millions of women, men and children in the United States and all over the world. Hundreds of scientists, doctors and researchers have trained at Anthony Fauci’s school, contributing to the fight against infectious diseases worldwide. In Italy, the Spallanzani Institute is grateful to him for his generous and selfless help to our Institute’s research projects and activities. A generosity that we like to associate to his Italian heritage, always remembered with pride. Anthony Fauci has also dealt extensively with SARS, avian flu, swine flu: all experiences that today are an invaluable background in the global response to a new coronavirus that threatens all of us, and which requires unity and solidarity to be fought. We hope that President Trump will confirm the position of an exceptional scientist and human being such as Anthony Fauci, who dedicated his whole professional life serving public health in his country and around the world.
We need Anthony Fauci’s leadership, in the US or elsewhere, to tackle the challenges this pandemic pose to our health systems. Our Institute would be honored to have Anthony as advisor and we hope that also The Italian Government and the Lazio Region could benefit of his great vision and expertise. Scientific Director Giuseppe Ippolito.

A study, Enhancing community capacity to deliver value-based cancer care at the end-of-life

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 11 settembre 2019

The study enrolled CareMore patients newly diagnosed with solid and hematologic malignancies from November 2016 through September 2018, and compared outcomes to a control group of all patients diagnosed with cancer in the year prior to intervention. The value-based cancer care model utilized LHWs, which are non-physician members of the community who have received specialized training to support the patient care and navigation. The study found there was no difference in survival between the groups, while the patients receiving the value-based care experienced better quality with end-of-life cancer care. The latter group had 40 percent lower inpatient admissions, 75 percent fewer emergency department visits in the last month of life, 45 percent increased hospice use, 40 percent fewer acute care facility deaths and 25 percent lower median total healthcare costs from diagnosis until death. “Through this study, the value-based care model developed by our group at Stanford and implemented by The Oncology Institute is associated with significant improvements in care for patients at the end of life,” said the study’s lead investigator, Manali Patel, MD, MPH, assistant professor of medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine. “As providers, it’s important to support patient care with innovations that address patient’s needs and can improve patient experiences, while also lowering the total cost of care.” For all patients who died within 12 months, their risk of death was analyzed using Cox Models and generalized linear regression to compare healthcare use in the last month of life, and total costs of care from diagnosis until death. All models were adjusted for age, stage, comorbidities, diagnosis and length of follow-up.
“We are excited to collaborate with Stanford and with The Oncology Institute on this important study to implement impactful care redesign to improve the care and experience for this group of patients,” said Dr. Anil Hanuman, regional chief medical officer of CareMore Health. “CareMore specializes in treating high-risk patients requiring complex, acute and chronic care—including those battling cancer—and recognizes the impact this innovative model of care could potentially have on patients, their care – and on healthcare costs.” “This study is another proof point that the patient-centric and comprehensive care model developed at Stanford and implemented by The Oncology Institute and CareMore Health is the direction that the medical oncology model should be going,” said Richy Agajanian, MD, chief medical officer and senior regional director at TOI. “We are excited to provide this model of care to patients nationally as we continue to expand our partnerships with health care systems such as CareMore that are seeking to improve patient care and lower financial burden on patients through value-based oncology care.”

Governor Kemp Signs Historic SB 157 at Community Bankers Association of Georgia Headquarters

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 5 maggio 2019

Governor Brian P. Kemp signed SB 157 into law at the Community Bankers Association of Georgia (CBA) headquarters today before a group of community bankers from across the state.
SB 157 allows community banks, many of which are located in rural Georgia, to accept local government’s funds and allows these banks in turn to reinvest and loan monies back into their own communities and spur economic activity. Increased lending will spur business growth, jobs, and boost statewide economic activity. SB 157 was unanimously passed by the legislature during the 2019 legislative session.CBA’s President and Chief Executive Officer John McNair stated, “We greatly appreciate Senator John Kennedy (R), Macon and Representative Dale Washburn (R), Macon, for guiding the bill through this legislative process. We are also thankful for our partnerships with National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), and the Association of County Commissioners (ACCG) in making this bill a possibility. SB 157 will change people’s lives, and all of us at CBA are proud, honored and humbled to have had the opportunity to impact Georgia’s community banking industry in this most positive manner!” Community banks are the primary providers of credit and banking services throughout the state and play a vital role in helping the Kemp administration fulfill its objective of further developing and growing small businesses in Georgia. This bill will allow community banks to compete with large, mostly out-of-state banks, for local municipal accounts and deposits. Georgia’s community banks will be able to dramatically increase lending in their local markets thereby helping small businesses start and grow, funding homeownership as well as a variety of agriculture and consumer loans.Governor Brian P. Kemp stated, “By supporting small businesses and local entrepreneurs, this legislation is another positive step toward a new day in rural Georgia. I thank the General Assembly and the Community Bankers Association for their hard work on this important issue and their efforts to bring greater prosperity to all corners of our state.”
“I am pleased and honored to have sponsored this legislation,” remarked Senator John F. Kennedy, (R), Macon. “This is a ‘win-win’ for all of Georgia, but especially rural Georgia, the local governments of Georgia and our banking community who serve our businesses and help so much with much needed economic development.”The ceremony began with remarks by CBA Chairman Mr. Tim Jones (Citizens Community Bank, Hahira), Senator John F. Kennedy (bill sponsor), CBA President and CEO Mr. John McNair and CBA Director of Legislative Affairs Mrs. Lori Godfrey. The Governor offered remarks, signed SB 157 and visited with community bankers afterwards. CBA hosted a brief reception following the ceremony.

Nasce la community degli “investimenti consapevoli”

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 30 ottobre 2018

Milano.

Know the Truth Announces Fall 2018 Community Forums

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 3 ottobre 2018

As part of their fall 2018 series, Know the Truth, the substance-use prevention program of Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge, will host three forums designed to educate community leaders, parents and concerned adults about teen substance use. The events will give community members an opportunity to hear firsthand how substance use can affect their families, offer participants a chance to learn more about current substance use trends and signs of use through hands-on experiences with Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge’s interactive exhibit “Cracking the Code on Teen Substance Use,” and provide participants with tools to prevent youth substance use. This is an important need considering the vast majority of Americans who struggle with addiction started smoking, drinking, or using drugs before age 18.The Nicollet County forum, taking place Oct. 3 will also include a simultaneous program for young people from grades seven through twelve, where Know the Truth presenters will share their personal struggles with substance use. This peer-to-peer format allows students to open up and helps Know the Truth bridge the gap between the students and the parents and community leaders who support them.
Additionally, two of the forums – Nicollet County on Oct. 3 and Ramsey County on Nov. 1 – will include a drug take back event. Participants will learn how to safeguard their medicine cabinet and be given the opportunity to properly dispose of any unused or unwanted prescriptions.
