Spotlight on Catholic Cultural Centers (CCCs)

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 7 ottobre 2020

Immersed in their own environments, CCCs are uniquely able to promote the evangelization of culture and intercultural and interreligious dialogue. The Dicastery is reviving its contacts and communication with some CCCs, using them as reference points to reach other existing centers around the world. This International Network of CCCs now has an updated directory. Telephone and video conversations have already taken place with some of them. The project will continue with international meetings, either in person or virtually, to reflect on and promote much-needed intercultural and interreligious dialogue locally. The Superiors have given numerous online presentations during this period. We signal in particular Cardinal Ravasi’s intervention for The Courtyard of Francesco, the annual courtyard in Assisi this year dedicated to the theme “Beyond the Frontiers.” And here is Bishop Paul Tighe’s speech to the annual US Church Media Conference. Visitors have included our member Cardinal Hollerich, the ambassadors of Japan and Croatia, and General Parrinello, who came to receive the pontifical honorary title of Commendatore dell’Ordine di San Gregorio Magno as a mark of recognition for his commitment and generosity supporting our initiatives, especially in the sphere of sports. On September 7, the booklet “Mettersi in Gioco” containing thoughts of Pope Francis on sport was presented to the press at Caracalla Stadium with the Dicastery’s contribution. Meanwhile the Sports at the Service of Humanity movement has begun its new stage and is developing its network of partners.

Immigration: social, cultural and historical problem

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 6 luglio 2018

Europe has, to date, reduced the economies and social status of the African peoples to the bone. First there was colonialism, then post colonialism and various forms of control, including the French one on the coins of the former colonies, assuring the tax on exports and plundering the natural resources of which the black continent is rich. In France, one in three lamps is lit thanks to uranium from Niger, while 90% of Nigerinians do not even have access to electricity. The only real obstacle to immigration to Europe is the end of the “Françafrique”, or the depletion of African nations by Macron’s France “.
Put in these terms the reasoning reason would want that the European states, that for centuries have plundered the African continent, they made a dutiful examination of conscience and offered to Africans that opportunity that the spasmodic thirst of profits, the contempt shown for their inhabitants they have ignored and today perpetuate their bad luck by not recognizing the right to live of those peoples who have only been able to arm the hands of their dictators and corrupt governments to try to continue to scrape the bottom of the barrel. Today, however, seem to want to do worse leaving to themselves immigrants who hundreds of thousands bivouac along the things of Libya and also of Tunisia by paying this state things only to Italy with the intent to transform it permanently into a field refugees with hundreds of thousands of desperate and without the possibility of job opportunities and with the real risk of destabilizing the entire country by placing it as a necessary collateral damage. Is this the Europe of solidarity? Is this Europe that would like to teach freedom, democracy turning its back on a continent of desperate people? Is this Europe that has no qualms about turning Italy into a land of conquest for the survival of barbarism? It is time to awaken consciences and to draw the attention of the public to what is in reality Europe dominated by the various business committees and unscrupulous merchants and that if they want to save the European dream of our fathers must to make a radical change starting from its leadership. Learning city and cultural diversity

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 14 febbraio 2017

Christian Ministry in Cultural Diversity

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 6 Maggio 2010

The meeting looked at recent efforts of churches in countries as diverse as Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden to enhance co-operation and synergy between so-called “traditional” churches and “migrant-led” churches.  Through national and regional workshops and trainings in the six participating countries the MIRACLE project had initiated and invigorated processes of different churches striving “to be church together” in a response to migration. Presenters from the different countries described how the European process of cooperation had helped to advance national debates and learn from one another. Positive experiences echoed that “a lot of mutual recognition between traditional and migrant-led churches was achieved in recent years” and “our witness has become more inclusive”, while more sceptical voices highlighted that “expectations regarding results of this uniting in diversity are still too different to be reconciled”. Many participants underlined that the MIRACLE project had moved forward discussions by offering concrete methods and tools for churches to move towards more inclusive ministry. It was concluded that a more inclusive Christian ministry was “possible, but required new strategies, methods and training”.  The reflections from within the family of Christian churches were enriched by inputs from partners representing Muslim and Jewish organisations reflecting on their communities´ experience with integration issues. Representatives of secular initiatives such as the EU Integration Forum and the network of Cities for Local Integration Policies (CLIP) highlighted the increasing recognition of the contribution of churches and other faith communities to social cohesion in multiethnic societies.  Marja-Liisa Laihia, Migration officer of the Lutheran Church in Finland, commented: “For us the MIRACLE project helped to provide a clear focus: to work for the equality of Migrant Christians in our churches. Migrant Christians have the right to be equal part of our church; and through their contribution to our church they help to transform and renew our witness. The MIRACLE project has strengthened our conviction that measures and programmes to increase Migrant Christians´ participation and equality in our churches is not only an obligation, but an immense opportunity for the future of our church”. Results of the MIRACLE project will be published in a practical guide by June 2010.

Cultural and artistic co-operatives

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 9 ottobre 2009

Toronto  Wednesday October 14, 2009 – 6:30 pm  Istituto Italiano di Cultura – 496 Huron St., Free admission  Artists are individualists par excellence, competing vigorously with one another for scarce opportunities.  But, except for the “stars,” who are a minority, artists benefit greatly from community. For those lacking the  means to fully develop their work and bring it to the public, the co-operative form can be an excellent  solution. The speakers compare the development of these organizations in Italy and Canada. Larry Haiven and Judy Haiven are Professors in the Department of Management, Faculty of Commerce  at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia

Canadian Cultural Centre

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 19 settembre 2009

Paris – France 5, rue de Constantine Canadian Cultural Centre. The Canadian Cultural Centre presents Unmasking : Arthur Renwick,  Adrian Stimson, Jeff Thomas, an exhibition organized for “Photoquai”  , the New World Visual Arts biennale of the Quai Branly museum in  Paris.  The photographic works of Arthur Renwick, Adrian Stimson, and Jeff  Thomas are diverse, and to varying degrees, confrontational  expressions of First Nations identity. Unmasking explores their  individual strategies, which can be gentle, campy, or whimsical,  while creating conversations between contemporary art, mass culture,  and representations of the past. All three artists use staging, or posing, of the human subject,  referring directly or obliquely to photographic documents, such as  Edward S. Curtis’s monumental and flawed The North American Indian,  as well as stereotypical three-dimensional objects, ranging from  sculptures to toys. All three also look to the built environment and  the landscape for vestiges of First Nations representation and still  active systems of belief. Every work in Unmasking carries signs of  rupture in the historical account – signs that draw out specific  histories and contemporary realities. Their mises-en-scène and  performances are based on sound research and deep understanding of  cultural traditions, while firmly implanted in the present. Their  images powerfully state: we are here now; recognize us; acknowledge  us; deal with us.  The exhibition has been organized by independent curators Martha  Langford and Sherry Farrell Racette for the Canadian Cultural Centre,  within the context of Photoquai – Renwick, Stimson, and Thomas are featured in the 2009 edition.
