MEPs demand an end to migrant deaths across the Mediterranean Sea

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 14 giugno 2018

Ahead of the next EU summit on 28-29 June, MEPs urge EU leaders to show real political will and draw up genuine solutions to finally end the migration crises. In a debate with European Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans and Deputy Minister for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, Monika Panayotova, on Tuesday morning, MEPs laid out their priorities for the next crucial EU summit in Brussels on 28-29 June. Some of the political groups urged EU leaders at the summit to put an end to formal discussions on migration and start working towards an agreement on the so-called “Dublin system”. They referred to the new Italian government’s recent decision to refuse a boat carrying migrants, the MS Aquarius, to dock in the country over the weekend as a “disgrace” and “a scandal”. EP President Antonio Tajani also called on EU leaders at the summit to press ahead with overhauling the Dublin rules, whilst pointing out that the European Parliament has adopted a clear position on the matter, based on solidarity. Some groups further stressed the need to build new European reception centres to assist migrants arriving in transit countries. Others highlighted that a solution to solve the migration crises, based on quotas and mandatory reallocation of refugees, simply cannot work, as demonstrated so far, and that other options need to be put on the table. MEPs also discussed US trade barriers and reforming the Eurozone, calling on the European Council to take further action with revamping the EMU.

The highest rents in London, the lowest in Vilnius. The average purchase price for owner-occupied flats is at 4,616 €/sqm. Highest transaction volume in Germany. In the 19 countries analyzed by Catella, a total transaction volume of EUR 48.1 billion was achieved in 2017. 32% of this was achieved in Germany alone, followed by UK with a share of 15%. The taillight in this ranking is Belgium with merely EUR 55.8 million.Further single results of this analysis:
– The lowest yield of all European residential markets can be found in Stockholm with 1.50%, followed by Zurich with 2.20%. The highest yield can be found in Krakow with 7.44%, followed by Warsaw with 6.15%. The average European yield is at 3.97%.

Lower than Expected Growth Should Not Dim 2018 Optimism

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 28 gennaio 2018

Natali a New York (2)/PRNewswire/ The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis today reported 2.6 percent annualized growth in real Gross Domestic Product for the final quarter of 2017. While this figure broke a run of two quarters of above 3.0 percent growth, the fact that a 2.6 percent reading can be considered “below expectations” illustrates the current strength of the economy. A gross domestic purchases figure of 3.6 percent growth in the fourth quarter better captures current conditions as the GDP number was suppressed by a slowdown in inventory build due to higher demand, which will encourage firms to increase 2018 activity. The global economic upturn provides an upside for the U.S. economy and is likely to strengthen even further in 2018. Continued gains in US business confidence, culminating with the recent tax legislation, will help keep the economy on track for near 3 percent growth this year.A robust holiday season set the pace for consumer spending in the fourth quarter, with durable goods recording especially strong growth. Labor markets are continuing to tighten which supports brighter consumer sentiment. Spending growth can accelerate slightly in 2018 despite very low savings rates, thanks to both higher disposable incomes due to tax cuts and the possibility that a shortage of available workers could cause an acceleration in wage growth. The Federal Reserve will be watching carefully to see if inflation firms, as it did in the fourth quarter, possibly necessitating faster interest rate tightening. A weaker dollar provides another source of inflation risk, especially with oil prices rising and imports growing rapidly this quarter in line with increased spending on investment goods.Burgeoning capital spending could force the Fed’s hand as well. Investment in capital equipment has been accelerating during the past three quarters. In 2018, nonresidential structures may also enjoy improved momentum due to higher oil prices which could bring drillers back to the field and especially favorable tax treatment under the new law, thanks to long depreciation periods. Residential structures also showed a pickup after flagging in the previous two quarters, possibly fueled in part by increased demand resulting from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The US economy is well positioned for a strong year in 2018. Looking ahead, constraints on labor and capital resources will start to pull growth back towards its long-term 2 percent trend with recession risks rising the longer the current pace of growth continues. Rise in anti-Semitism demands stronger action, urge MEPs

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 3 giugno 2017

olocaustoBruxelles. Call for more effective prosecution and cross-border cooperation EU countries asked to appoint national coordinators to combat anti-Semitism Holocaust history should be taught in schoolsLeading politicians urged to denounce any anti-Semitic statement Hate speech and violence against Europe’s Jewish citizens are incompatible with EU values, so all EU member states must take measures to ensure the security of their Jewish citizens, say MEPs. They call on leading national politicians to oppose anti-Semitic statements systematically and publicly, and urge every member state to appoint a national coordinator to combat anti-Semitism.Racist motives should be deemed an aggravating factor in criminal offences. And anti-Semitic acts committed on the internet should also be prosecuted, says the resolution.
MEPs also call for good cross-border cooperation in prosecution especially in the case of terrorist acts. Police forces should set up special anti-hate crime units, and to make prosecution more efficient and effective, all member states should adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of what constitutes anti-Semitism.Online intermediaries, such as search engines, social media, and app platforms, should take stronger action to combat anti-Semitic hate speech, say MEPs. The history of the Holocaust (or Shoah) should be taught in schools and history books should give an accurate description of Jewish history and life and avoid all forms of anti-Semitism, they add.
In a separate vote, MEPs gave their consent to the working priorities for 2018-2022 of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, including asylum for and integration of refugees and migrants, fighting racism and xenophobia, protecting personal data and Roma inclusion. In talks, Parliament’s negotiators have pressed the EU Commission and Council to make police work and counter-terrorism legislation fully open to scrutiny by the agency – an idea that they have promised to look into.

Long-Range Electric Vehicles Set to Gain Popularity Globally, Finds Frost & Sullivan

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 21 aprile 2015

royal hotel garden londonLondon on 1st and 2nd July 2015 Future Business Models in Connected and Automated Mobility”, taking place at the House of Lords and the Royal Garden Hotel. The global electric vehicles market has made huge progress, with more than 55 models now available globally. Currently, over 70 percent of the models on the market are battery EVs (BEVs) and approximately 25 percent are plug-in hybrid EVs (PHEVs). Nevertheless, the number of PHEVs is likely to increase over the next three to four years. The market will see greater demand for longer-range vehicles that allow customers to drive up to and past the pure EV range. The BMW i3 sales split between BEV and extended range EVs (eREVs) demonstrates this trend.New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Strategic Outlook of Global Electric Vehicle Market in 2015 (http://www.frost.com/mad6), finds that EV sale volumes stood at 304,683 units in 2014 and estimates this to reach 466,407 units in 2015. At the end of the year, North America will continue to lead with a market share of 36 percent, followed by Europe and China with a share of 27 and 24 percent respectively. The study covers PHEVs, BEVs, neighbourhood EVs and eREVs.
“Major EV original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as BMW (www.bmwgroup.com), Tesla (www.teslamotors.com) and Daimler (www.daimler.com) expect to benefit from incentives and subsidies in China and have thus designed growth strategies to establish themselves firmly in the market,” said Frost & Sullivan Automotive & Transportation Senior Research Analyst Prajyot Sathe. “However, with the annual decrease in incentives by five percent in China, some OEMs are looking at offering alternative technologies such as fuel cell vehicles to qualify for incentives.”Although the EV market is growing in all regions, overall sales have not met the expectations of automakers. Automakers in Europe and North America have not managed to achieve sales targets mainly due to end users’ reluctance to adopt new technologies, the long charging time for vehicles, and the lack of awareness on the benefits of EVs.While sales in the United States EV market have increased by 30 percent from its 2013 level, the number of PHEVs and EVs stand at approximately 162,000 – far from the one-million unit goal for 2015. As part of the strategy to expand sales, automakers are trying to double the energy density of Li-ion technology to improve EV range.“To further boost sales, EV OEMs are focusing on improving accessibility by establishing EV charging networks through partnerships,” noted Sathe. “Tesla, however, is building its proprietary super charging network and has over 120 stations in the US, 75 in Europe and 25 in Asia, where installations are anticipated to double by the end of this year.”
Frost & Sullivan, the Growth Partnership Company, works in collaboration with clients to leverage visionary innovation that addresses the global challenges and related growth opportunities that will make or break today’s market participants. Our “Growth Partnership” supports clients by addressing these opportunities and incorporating two key elements driving visionary innovation: The Integrated Value Proposition and The Partnership Infrastructure.

Advanced in-car electronics and user demand for connectivity make a strong case for automotive Ethernet in Europe and North America

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 24 gennaio 2014

london-centralLondon, UK The use of Ethernet technology in Automotive is gaining pace in Europe and North America. The paradigm shift towards connected cars and associated services such as automotive app stores and connected location-based services is fuelling the uptake. Along with the need to integrate multiple consumer electronic devices, the importance of offering prioritised, personalised services and maintaining brand identity are compelling automotive OEMs original equipment manufacturers (original equipment manufacturers) to adopt Ethernet technology.New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (http://www.automotive.frost.com <), Strategic Outlook of Automotive Ethernet Technology in Europe and North America, expects the number of Ethernet nodes to rise to more than 100 in luxury cars, 50-60 in cars sold in the mass market, and up to 10 in entry-level cars by 2020. The global market for Ethernet ports is expected to reach 300 million by 2020, with North America and Europe contributing the most to the total revenue.User interest in audio and video applications for advanced driver assistance systems like camera assisted parking, lane departure warning systems, collision avoidance systems, and traffic light recognition is spurring the adoption of high-speed Ethernet in the range of 100 megabits per second. As a result, automotive OEMs and tier I suppliers in Europe and North America continue to work on Ethernet-based electrical and electronic (E/E) system architecture for vehicle applications though it is a time-consuming, research-intensive, and expensive process.

120,000 Demand Firing of Gym Teacher Who Stuffed Autistic Student in Bag

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 29 dicembre 2011

Georgetown University, Washington, DC, USA.

Washington, DC – More than 120,000 people in all 50 states have joined a popular campaign on Change.org calling on the Mercer County, KY, school board and Mercer County Intermediate School Principal Dana Cobb to terminate a teacher accused of putting an autistic fourth grader, Chris Baker, into a “therapy bag” as punishment.Lydia Brown, an autistic 18-year-old Georgetown University freshman, launched the campaign on Change.org following allegations that the teacher told the 4th grader to climb inside a “therapy bag” for punishment to “control his autistic behavior” in mid-December. The autistic boy was allegedly placed in the cloth bag with the drawstring tightened and left in the hallway of the school.
When the boy’s mother, Sandra Baker, was called to the school to get her son, she discovered Chris in the bag and demanded he be removed immediately. Sandra claims she was then informed by Chris’ teacher that he had been placed in the bag several times over the past year. “You know there are problems with our educational system when a teacher can claim that stuffing an autistic child inside a bag and pulling the drawstring shut is a form of therapy,” said Lydia Brown, who launched the Change.org campaign, which has garnered more than 120,000 supporters in a matter of days. “What happened to Chris is a reflection of deeply institutionalized attitudes toward people with disabilities. It’s time for the Mercer County School Board to take responsibility for its inadequate professional training and to fire a teacher whose judgement is clearly flawed.”News of the online petition campaign’s success is likely to increase pressure on the Mercer County School District. Within hours of the campaign’s launch, Lydia Brown had recruited thousands of supporters on Change.org, the world’s fastest growing platform for online campaigns. Lydia and Sandra Baker plan to continue demanding action from the school board in January. “Lydia is a powerful advocate for the rights of the autistic community,” said Change.org Director of Organizing Katie Bethell. “By starting a campaign on Change.org, Lydia was able to take immediate action to try help this child and his family and hold Mercer County Intermediate School accountable for its actions. Lydia’s campaign has reached tens of thousands of people and generated massive support for better treatment of autistic children nationwide.”The campaign on Change.org has been covered by major news outlets across the country, including CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC and Huffington Post. It has been widely shared on social media sites Twitter and Facebook, and a Facebook group with several hundred members has formed to stand against the inappropriate use of restraint by teachers.Live signature totals from Lydia Brown’s campaign: http://www.change.org/petitions/end-abuse-of-autistic-students-in-mercer-county-kentucky

The U.S./China market

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 1 gennaio 2011

Washington, D.C., December 31, 2010 – “The U.S. Grains Council has a 25 year history of market development and capacity building programs in China and values the U.S./China market and trade relationship.  China is a critical partner in trade and an important market for the United States.  “China’s investigation of U.S. DDGS imports is surprising and could be disruptive to trade. China’s unusual  market and supply volatility over the last two years has resulted in new global trade flows. As trade flows  change, it should perhaps not be surprising there would be an adjustment period in response to unprecedented demand.  “The United States takes pride in being a reliable supplier of high-quality feed and food grains and its ability to rapidly respond to global market demands.  “The mission of the U.S. Grains Council is to help keep markets open and support the free flow of goods. The  Council looks forward to continuing the strong trade relationship with buyers and end-users of U.S. goods in  China and encourages a positive resolution to the investigation.”
The U.S. Grains Council is a private, non-profit partnership of farmers and agribusinesses committed to building and expanding international markets for U.S. barley, corn, grain sorghum and their products. The Council is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and has 10 international offices that oversee programs in more than 50 countries. Financial support from our private industry members, including state checkoffs, agribusinesses, state entities and others, triggers federal matching funds from the USDA resulting in a combined program value of more than $28.3 million.  The U.S. Grains Council does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation or marital/family status.
