Denmark’s Telecoms, Mobile and Broadband Market

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 23 marzo 2019

This report provides a comprehensive overview of trends and developments in Denmark’s telecommunications market. The report analyses the fixed-line, mobile and broadband sectors.Denmark’s competitive telecom market continues to benefit from having one of the highest broadband penetration rates globally, as well as comprehensive LTE coverage. This has stimulated a range of IP-enabled applications which has encouraged revenue growth in the mobile and internet segments, though market competition has meant that overall sector growth has fallen in recent years.Excellent cable and DSL infrastructure have been supported by a progressive regulatory regime which has encouraged operator access to both copper and fibre networks. Fibre networks have a fast-growing footprint, while a number of community and metropolitan schemes have supplemented TDC’s own commitments to build out fibre nationally. The development of VDSL and fibre, as well as LTE-A and 5G in the mobile market, is crucial to meeting the government’s objective for all premises to have access to a 100Mb/s service by 2020.The mobile market continues to show steady growth despite the country having one of the highest mobile penetration rates in Europe. Operators have started trials of 5G services while commercial services will be greatly supported from the beginning of 2020 when spectrum in a range of bands which will become available.

Antitrust: Commission invites comments on TenneT’s proposed commitments to increase cross border electricity capacity with Denmark

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 1 aprile 2018

The European Commission has invited comments on commitments by the German grid operator TenneT to increase capacity on the electricity interconnector between Western Denmark and Germany. The commitments are in response to Commission concerns that capacity restrictions may breach EU antitrust rules.Prior to the opening of the investigation and sending of a preliminary assessment on 19 March 2018, TenneT had already been in commitment discussions with the Commission. The opening of the investigation allowed TenneT to formally submit a set of commitments to address the Commission’s concerns. In particular, TenneT is proposing to ensure that the maximum capacity of the interconnector between Denmark and Germany would be made available to the market, while preserving the security of the German high-voltage electricity network. The Commission invites all stakeholders to submit their views on the commitments. Taking into account all comments received, the Commission will then take a final view on whether the commitments address its competition concerns. Commissioner Margrethe Vestager, in charge of competition policy, said: “Electricity interconnectors must be open to cross-border trade if we are to build a real Energy Union. To achieve this we need to ensure that energy flows freely without any capacity restrictions that may breach EU antitrust rules. In this context, we will assess whether TenneT’s proposed commitments address our competition concerns in light of the responses of interested parties.

European Parliament gives a green light to cooperation agreement between Denmark and Europol

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 29 aprile 2017

DanimarcaA broad majority of MEPs on Thursday backed the proposal to establish an operational and strategic cooperation agreement between Denmark and Europol. Parliament backed the cooperation agreement with 569 votes to 8, with 62 abstentions.
“The fight against cross-border crime and terrorism necessitates close cooperation among EU member states. A sudden departure of Denmark from Europol could lead to operational gaps and reduce the EU’s capacity to fight organised crime and terrorism. It is therefore important that we ensure a sufficient level of cooperation with Denmark after 1st of May”, said lead MEP Agustín Díaz de Mera (EPP, ES).
In it’s resolution Parliament notes the exceptional nature of the foreseen arrangement between Europol and Denmark and repeats that MEPs would have liked to see “an expiry date of five years” in order to ensure its transitional nature “with a view to a more permanent arrangement”.In line with the joint declaration from the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission and the Prime Minister of Denmark, MEPs also stress that the agreement is conditional on Denmark’s continued membership of the Union and of the Schengen area, Denmark’s obligation to fully implement in Danish law the directive on data protection in police matters by 1 May 2017 and Denmark’s agreement to the application of the jurisdiction of the EU Court of Justice and the competence of the European Data Protection Supervisor.
The European Parliament needs to be consulted before the agreement can enter into force.
Background. The cooperation agreement aims to minimise the negative impact of Denmark’s departure from Europol on 1 May 2017, following the Danish referendum on 3 Dec. 2015, and avoid creating gaps in the joint fight against serious crime and terrorism.
On 15 December 2016 the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission and Denmark’s Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen issued a joint declaration proposing to associate Denmark to Europol in the form of a cooperation agreement.
Establishing this cooperation agreement has entailed two legislative steps: firstly, Denmark was added to the list of third countries with whom Europol can conclude cooperation agreements, secondly the cooperation agreement itself.
On 14 February 2017, the Plenary backed adding Denmark to the list of third countries with an overwhelming majority of 632 votes to 10, and 51 abstentions.

Denmark-Europol: Parliament passes first step towards the establishment of a cooperation agreement

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 16 febbraio 2017

europolDenmark should be added to the list of countries with which Europol can conclude operational cooperation agreements, the European Parliament recommended on Tuesday. However, MEPs also call on Council to set a sunset clause on a future agreement.Parliament passed the draft report by Agustín Díaz de Mera García Consuegra (EPP, ES) by 632 votes to 10, with 51 abstentions.”It is vital to keep Denmark in Europol for the security of all Europeans, nor will the Danish people be completely secure without Europol”, said Agustín Díaz de Mera García Consuegra. Adding Denmark to the list of countries with which Europol can conclude cooperation agreements (Decision 2009/935/JHA) constitutes a first step towards setting up an operational cooperation agreement between Denmark and Europol so as to minimise the negative impact of Denmark’s departure from Europol on 1 May 2017, following the Danish referendum on 3 December 2015.However, MEPs also call on the Council to provide “for an expiry date of five years after the date of entry into force” of the agreement.
Including a sunset clause in the agreement should “ensure its transitional nature with a view to full membership or the conclusion of an international agreement in accordance with Article 2018 TFEU” MEPs add.
When Denmark has been added to the list of countries with which Europol can conclude cooperation agreements, Council will need to consult Parliament on establishing the concrete cooperation agreement between Europol and Denmark. Parliament has no formal say on adding Denmark to the list and establishing a cooperation agreement, but it needs to be consulted on both issues before an agreement can be concluded.

Hate and intolerance must be combated more strongly as social climate worsens

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 1 ottobre 2015

conseil de l'europeResearch by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) shows that racism and xenophobia are a widespread problem in Europe today. As support for xenophobic and anti-migrant agendas grows, FRA calls in a special contribution to the European Commission’s first annual colloquium on fundamental rights for targeted awareness-raising measures, better data collection, and more effective access to justice for victims. The persistent lack of data is central to the Agency’s annual overview of data on antisemitism in the EU, which is also published today.“The attacks we have seen this year in France, Denmark and elsewhere in the EU are part of a climate of intolerance that we must fight with all the means at our disposal,” said FRA interim Director Constantinos Manolopoulos. “There are many positive initiatives around the EU, but in the current situation this is not enough. The EU and its Member States need to take immediate and decisive action to combat extremist, xenophobic and antisemitic discourse and crimes.”FRA points out in its annual overview of data on antisemitism in the EU that the reliable and comparable figures vital to help tackle the phenomenon effectively are currently missing. Not only do victims and witnesses need to be encouraged to report antisemitic incidents, but the authorities must also have systems in place to record them. The Working Party on combating hate crime set up by FRA in 2014 is cooperating with all 28 EU Member States to improve recording and encourage reporting of hate crime of all kinds, including antisemitic incidents. It also seeks to increase collaboration between government, law enforcement, prosecutors’ offices and NGOs, at the same time emphasising the importance of training for the police and others who work on the front line.Existing evidence shows that antisemitism remains an issue of serious concern in the EU, demanding decisive and targeted policy responses. The effective implementation of these responses would not only protect Jewish communities, but also give a clear signal that the fundamental rights of everyone living in the EU are taken seriously and safeguarded.
On the eve of the European Commission’s first Annual Colloquium on Fundamental Rights, FRA is today also publishing a separate paper. This discusses the ways in which political rhetoric at local, national and European levels is currently exacerbating an aggressive tone subsequently echoed online through the press and social media, generating a sense of insecurity and fear among members of ethnic and religious minorities in the EU. FRA’s conference contribution Promoting respect and diversity – Combating intolerance and hate calls for greater efforts to acknowledge ethnic, linguistic, cultural and religious diversity in our societies and use it to bolster social cohesion and growth.

Aarhus, Denmark 6-9 May 2012 International festival and theatre programmers and selected cultural journalists are invited to participate in the theatre showcase, :DANISH+, taking place in Aarhus, Denmark, from 6-9 May 2012. The showcase will present the best in Danish performing arts for young audiences. Denmark’s Minister for Culture, Uffe Elbæk, will be giving the opening speech. The programme is all set for :DANISH+, the third international showcase for Danish performing arts for young audiences. The showcase – the only one of its kind in Europe – features Danish works translated into English and is aimed at a broad international array of festival and performing arts promoters.
The best way to describe the showcase is by calling it an export fair for the most outstanding Danish performing arts for young audiences. Danish children’s theatre has a great reputation worldwide and the originator of the project, TeatretGruppe 38, is one of the groups who have received international acclaim. This was made clear when the theatre won the prestigious ASSITEJ International President Award 2011.The latest calculations from ASSITEJ Denmark state that 26 member theatres toured 70 times with 49 different productions from the autumn of 2008 to the spring of 2009. This equals a total of 371 performances around the world. In other words, there is at least one Danish children’s theatre show being performed somewhere in the world every day.
Denmark’s Minister for Culture, UffeElbæk, will give the speech on opening night. This underlines the fact that the showcase is an important export opportunity for Danish performing arts. The showcase receives funding from the Danish Arts Council and the Municipality of Aarhus and is cooperating with the Danish Cultural Institute situated in 11 countries around the world. During the showcase there will be a number of talks on performing arts foryoung audiences. One of the speakers is the Danish writer Knud Romer who will give an energized and inspiring talk on why culture is so important. To former :DANISH+ showcases, visitors have come from far away countries like Australia and China. This year it is expected that approximately 80 festival and theatre programmers, journalists and cultural attaches from around the world will come to Aarhus for the 2012

showcase.
