Milan student puts designs on Scottish catwalk

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 24 marzo 2010

Fashion Design students from Robert Gordon University’s Gray’s School of Art in Scotland raised their game as ‘The Professional University’ recently by hosting an exclusive black tie event at Aberdeen Art Gallery for members of the business community.  Federica Fiorenzoni (23), an exchange student from from Milan in Italy, also joined the Fashion Design cohort in the display. She has joined Gray’s for a term from the Politecnico of Milan and is very excited about seeing one of her creations on a catwalk.  Piyumi Liyanage (23), who is originally from Colombo, Sri Lanka, and now lives in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, with her family, came to Gray’s specifically to follow her dream of working in the world of fashion. She completed her first year of study at the Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology where Kim Eason, Programme Leader for Fashion and Textiles at Gray’s, visited as an external examiner. “Gray’s School of Art is very much an institution of high repute in Scotland and it is natural that as one of the biggest employers in textiles in the country
that we should work closely together. As a result of the collaboration with Kim Eason and her students, we are also working on other project ideas with other departments at Robert Gordon University, to the benefit of both the students and our company.” (fashion show)

Recession

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 9 marzo 2010

In a recession, people dream of starting their own businesses (or selling the business they have built grown), but are daunted by harsh economic realities.  In How to build a business and sell it for millions (St. Martin’s Press; March 2010; hardcover), business attorney Jack Garson states that the long economic downturn is poised to give way to a major business acquisition spree by cash-rich companies.  According to Garson, “this is best time in decades” for those who have started, built and want to sell their own companies. How to Build a Business and Sell it for Millions is a must-read for current business owners and those who dream of owning their own companies.  The book shows entrepreneurs how to conceive of, build, grow, and most important of all, sell a successful business. As the founding principal of Garson | Claxton, the prominent Washington, DC-area business and commercial real estate law firm, Jack Garson is an authority on building and selling businesses. He’s been inside some of America’s most successful boardrooms—leading and advising on countless $100 million dollar deals. He knows why few businesses succeed, and why many fail, all the challenges that occur on the way to sale. With How to Build a Business and Sell it for Millions, Garson is sharing this knowledge for all those who own—or want to start their own company.

Death Senator Ted Kennedy

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 27 agosto 2009

Michelle and I were heartbroken to learn this morning of the death of our dear friend, Senator Ted Kennedy. For nearly five decades, virtually every major piece of legislation to advance the civil rights, health and economic well-being of the American people bore his name and resulted from his efforts. His ideas and ideals are stamped on scores of laws and reflected in millions of lives — in seniors who know new dignity; in families that know new opportunity; in children who know education’s promise; and in all who can pursue their dream in an America that is more equal and more just, including me. In the United States Senate, I can think of no one who engendered greater respect or affection from members of both sides of the aisle. His seriousness of purpose was perpetually matched by humility, warmth and good cheer. He battled passionately on the Senate floor for the causes that he held dear, and yet still maintained warm friendships across party lines. And that’s one reason he became not only one of the greatest senators of our time, but one of the most accomplished Americans ever to serve our democracy. I personally valued his wise counsel in the Senate, where, regardless of the swirl of events, he always had time for a new colleague. I cherished his confidence and momentous support in my race for the Presidency. And even as he waged a valiant struggle with a mortal illness, I’ve benefited as President from his encouragement and wisdom. His fight gave us the opportunity we were denied when his brothers John and Robert were taken from us: the blessing of time to say thank you and goodbye. The outpouring of love, gratitude and fond memories to which we’ve all borne witness is a testament to the way this singular figure in American history touched so many lives. For America, he was a defender of a dream. For his family, he was a guardian. Our hearts and prayers go out to them today — to his wonderful wife, Vicki, his children Ted Jr., Patrick and Kara, his grandchildren and his extended family. Today, our country mourns. We say goodbye to a friend and a true leader who challenged us all to live out our noblest values. And we give thanks for his memory, which inspires us still. Sincerely, (President Barack Obama)

Happy Father’s Day

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 22 giugno 2009

From Michelle Obama. I’m writing to share a special video of Barack talking about fatherhood, but first I want to share some thoughts of my own.  My father, Frasier Robinson, was the rock of our family. Although he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in his early thirties, he was our provider, our champion and our hero.  He worked tirelessly through good days and bad to make sure my brother and I had every opportunity he didn’t — to go to college and pursue our dreams. His example continues to guide me every day.  Barack didn’t have my good fortune — his father left when he was just two years old. But he has always been determined to give our daughters what he never had, and he values being a good father more than any other accomplishment in his life.  On Friday, Barack brought some men (and a bunch of kids!) to the White House to talk about fatherhood. Check out a video of the event:  We all know the remarkable impact fathers can have in our children’s lives. So today, on this 100th anniversary of Father’s Day, take a moment to celebrate responsible fatherhood and the men who’ve had the courage to step up, be there for our families, and provide our children with the guidance, love and support they need to fulfill their dreams.
