EL AL Cockpit Innovation Hub and JetBlue Technology Ventures Launch Navigator Program For Startups in Fields of Aviation and Travel

el-al-israel-airlinesNEW YORK, NY Cockpit, the innovation center established by EL AL Israel Airlines and JetBlue Technology Ventures, the investment arm of JetBlue, announced the launch of Navigator, an international hub for startups in the fields of aviation and travel.The Navigator includes a direct link to EL AL and JetBlue, exposure to strategic partners, initial funding, office space in Israel and the United States as well as ongoing close guidance for startups in all aspects of their business development. The first global innovation center of its kind, Navigator is searching for new technologies in the field as well as existing technologies that made a difference in other industries and are now targeting the travel and aviation industry.Navigator targets startups from all over the world that deal or have an appeal for aviation and travel. The program also includes ongoing guidance in a wide variety of business activities, especially in the realm of sales and marketing, technology and legal issues. In addition, each startup selected for the program will gain exposure to leading professionals and customers in the global aviation and travel industries. The companies will work for three months in Israel and an additional month in Silicon Valley where they will get an opportunity to present their developments to key players in the global aviation industry. After the four-month international program, alumni may be offered follow-up support for another eight months in terms of workspace and business development mentoring aimed at actualizing the partnerships that will be created.Submission of candidacy for the program is open, through the website cockpitinnovation.com. EL AL Launches Economy Class Plus

New York EL AL, the national airline of Israel, today announced the launch of Economy Class Plus, a new class of service offering passengers more legroom, more seat recline and preferred seating in the economy cabin.Economy Class Plus also offers an improved atmosphere, a comfort kit (with eyeshades, socks, earplugs, toothpaste and a toothbrush), a business class pillow and blanket, a wider seat cushion, plus additional relaxing amenities such as a foot rest and a curtain for privacy. Installation of laptop and cell phone electrical outlets at every seat will be completed by year end.
EL AL passengers can now reserve Economy Class Plus seating for travel as of July 1 on all state-of-the-art 747-400 jumbo aircraft flying between New York (JFK and Newark) and Israel. The fare for this preferred seat is an additional $150 per person above the economy class fare, each way. In the future, Economy Class Plus will be offered to passengers travelling on state-of-the-art 777 aircraft.EL AL Matmid frequent flyers who travel the most (Top Platinum, Platinum and Gold members) receive a complimentary Economy Class Plus seat when purchasing an economy class ticket. A travel companion of a Top Platinum member in economy class also receives a free Economy Class Plus seat. In addition, EL AL passengers purchasing select economy class tickets are entitled to receive a free Economy Class Plus seat. Every other Matmid frequent flyer has the option of exchanging points for one of these seats.

El Al Israel Airlines: Financial results

New York, NY – EL AL Israel Airlines, the national airline of Israel, announced successful annual financial results for 2010 as well as for the fourth quarter of the year.  In addition, EL AL President & CEO Eleyzer Shkedy informed the Board of Directors that he would contribute 50% of his 2010 annual bonus to an “Excellence and Employees Fund” that would be awarded to EL AL employees worldwide. The annual net profit for EL AL in 2010 is $57.1 million, as compared to a loss of $76.3 million in the parallel period of 2009. Gross profits for the year resulted in an increase of 83% to $387.7 million over 2009. The company’s overall revenue in 2010 totaled $1.97 billion as compared to $1.65 billion in 2009, a significant increase of 19%.  Cash flow from regular activities in 2010 totaled $203.3 million (a remarkable jump of 807%) from $22.4 million in 2009. And, at the end of 2010, the shareholders’ equity doubled to $249 million, as compared to $124 million on December 31, 2009. The net profit for the last quarter of 2010 was $16.3 million as compared to a $29 million loss in the same period of the previous year. There were a number of notable accomplishments by the airline in 2010 as well as contributions made by the USA branch.
• EL AL assisted with several humanitarian missions after the devastating earthquake took place in Haiti by bringing plane loads of emergency supplies, dozens of medical personnel as well as search and rescue teams to aid victims.
• EL AL and Jewish National Fund (JNF) announced another humanitarian project to replant trees in the Carmel Mountains following the horrendous fires in the northern part of Israel.
• As a result of the volcanic cloud crisis throughout Europe, EL AL arranged dozens of extra flights, thereby airlifting thousands of Israelis to return home on time for the Day of Remembrance and Independence Day.
• The airline made efforts to renew its fleet for the long-term and added the first 747-400 cargo aircraft. Additionally, the airline purchased a 747-400 passenger aircraft which will soon be added to the fleet and utilized on the USA/Israel route. Lease agreements for five additional aircraft were also signed in 2010.
• EL AL entered into a partnership with JetBlue Airways, resulting in more convenient and  appealing fares for passengers living in or near 35 U.S.A. cities. This is in addition to the existing codeshare agreement with American Airlines. Cooperation agreements with other carriers were also finalized.
• EL AL was honored as the “Best Airline for Security” in 2010 by readers of Global Traveler Magazine.
• In the USA, EL AL opened a liaison office to the Christian community , offering a staff which provides expertise on group travel to the Holy Land, the best possible service and attractive fares.

Vice President of EL AL Israel Airlines

New York, NY Danny Saadon has been named Vice President of EL AL Israel Airlines for North and Central America, the largest and most important operation for the airline (outside of Israel) that generates the most tourism to the country. In this new position, Saadon will oversee all operations for EL AL throughout the region and will be based at EL AL’s North American Headquarters in New York City. This new appointment follows more than four decades with EL AL in several managerial positions, including Airport Operations Manager in a variety of countries when history was made for the State of Israel and EL AL. The most significant events include the 1976 Israeli Raid on Entebbe while Saadon was based in Nairobi, Kenya and the rescue of Israelis and Iranians during the 1978 Iranian revolution while he was in Tehran, Iran. As the EL AL Ben Gurion Airport Manager in 1991, Saadon was also involved in Operation Solomon when EL AL assisted in the covert Israeli military operation that rescued 15,000 Ethiopians via airlift to Israel.Most recently, Saadon spent the past five years as Vice President and General Manager of the EL AL branch in Tel Aviv.  This office brings in the largest volume of business for the airline with sales of $1 billion annually. Previously, Saadon held a steady string of upper management positions with EL AL including General Manager in the United Kingdom and Ireland, as well as Ground Operations Manager in the United States. Saadon received a degree from Hebrew University.
