Mitsubishi Electric’s U.S. Building Solutions Website Receives Effie Award

Electric Motor Company YASA Launches New Series of Motor Controllers

YASA, the world’s leading manufacturer of axial-flux electric motors, today announced availability of the first in a new series of motor controllers (inverters) for propulsion and generation applications in pure electric and hybrid vehicles.The new Si400 controller delivers 200kVA (400V and 500 Arms) from a 5 litre package weighing just 5.75kg. The controller features innovative thermal management including dielectric oil cooling and is suitable for use with induction, permanent magnet and axial-flux electric motors. When coupled with YASA’s axial-flux electric motors, the Si400 controller offers best-in-class efficiency and control dynamics.YASA’s new controller series provides powertrain designers with new ways to optimise vehicle performance, range and cost. Mitsubishi Electric to Exhibit at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, USA

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO:6503) announced today that it will exhibit cutting-edge automotive technologies and products, including its EMIRAI4 driving-assistance concept car, for safer and more convenient transportation in the smart mobility era at the CES 2019 show for consumer technologies in Las Vegas, U.S.A. from January 8 to 11. The Mitsubishi Electric exhibition, organized around the theme “Realize your mobility ambitions,” will be located at booth No.7529 in the North Hall.The newest version of the EMIRAI4* (2019) smart-mobility concept car features next-generation driving-assistance technologies, advanced human-machine interface (HMI) technologies and other Mitsubishi Electric technologies for vehicle electrification, autonomous driving and network connection. During CES 2019, Mitsubishi Electrics will present two new technologies in the EMIRAI4 with its realistic texture expression technology, called Real Texture® and ground-illuminating indicator technology. The Real Texture LED dashboard display realistically expresses the appearance of metallic-like surfaces by adjusting gloss and shadow according to the person’s viewing angle. Ground-illuminating indicators for turning, door-opening, etc. project animated illuminations on road surfaces around the vehicle to provide highly intuitive, easy-to-see warnings about intended movements for enhanced road safety, even in bad weather including snow. A demonstration car for the North America market will feature a multi-display system and a drone-assisted vacant-parking-search system. Mitsubishi Electric and the University of Tokyo Reveal New Mechanism for Enhancing Reliability

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO:6503) and the University of Tokyo announced today what they believe to be an all-new mechanism for enhancing the reliability of silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor devices in power electronics systems. The new mechanism was realized as a result of confirming that sulfur beneath the interface of gate oxide and SiC captures some of the electrons conducting in the device’s current path, which increases the threshold voltage without changing the device’s on-resistance. The mechanism is expected to lead to more reliable power electronics equipment offering superior tolerance to electro-magnetic noise, which is known to cause system malfunctions.The research achievement was initially announced at The International Electron Devices Meeting (IEDM2018) in San Francisco, California on December 3 (PST). Going forward, Mitsubishi Electric will continue refining the design and specifications of its SiC metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (SiC MOSFET) to further enhance the reliability of SiC power semiconductor devices.In their research, Mitsubishi Electric handled the design and fabrication of the SiC power semiconductor devices and analysis of sulfur’s capture of electrons in the current path, while the University of Tokyo handled measurement of electron scattering.Until now, it had been assumed that compared to conventional nitrogen or phosphorus, sulfur is not a suitable element to supply electrons for current conduction in SiC power semiconductor devices. Mitsubishi Electric and the University of Tokyo, however, focused on a different property of sulfur, namely, that sulfur in SiC inherently tends to capture electrons. Confirmation of this property was the basis of developing the new mechanism for SiC power semiconductor devices.
A proper quantity and distribution of sulfur in the mechanism’s SiC blocks electrons near the interface to a certain extent and thereby increases threshold voltage without impacting on-resistance. A suitable atom offering such an electrical property has been strongly sought to realize devices that are not prone to malfunctioning due to the effects of external electro-magnetic noise. The new mechanism is more reliable in this regard than conventional mechanisms and still retains low on-resistance.

Mitsubishi Electric Develops Platform That Enables Smart Appliances to Cooperate

By integrating the aggregation of diverse functionalities not possible with individual appliances, the platform is expected to facilitate a wide variety of cooperative smart appliances and related services for increasing comfortable and convenient homes. Commercialization of the platform is targeted at 2020.Mitsubishi Electric’s new platform will support the ongoing trend of home appliances offering increasingly smart functions for networked environments. The platform incorporates technology that will enable appliances to collaborate with each other without connection to a cloud or the internet, and to support new services that could not be implemented with individual appliances. The result will be more comfortable and convenient living environments in which occupants will not be required to operate or adjust their smart appliances on a daily basis.Mitsubishi Electric has developed a lightweight software library that requires memory space of just around three megabytes, enabling the platform to run even on low-spec microcontrollers such as those deployed in smart home appliances. The platform also allows for newly acquired smart home appliances to be added seamlessly to the network.Going forward, Mitsubishi Electric will continue to develop its cloud- and internet-free platform to enable cooperation among increasingly sophisticated networked appliances for intuitive, fully automatic services that do not require daily operation or adjustment by users.

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced today that it would launch a new integrated Station Energy Saving Inverter (S-EIV®) with 400V AC-output for converting surplus regenerative energy from train braking intokyo-japanto AC electricity for station facilities. The new 400V AC S-EIV facilitates easy installations and more energy-efficient operations, even at train stations with high-load demands of 400V power distribution circuits. The company also announced that the new S-EIV will be installed at Tokyo Metro Co. Ltd. train stations serving urban Tokyo.The new S-EIV offers 400V AC-output with the same dimensions as its 200V AC predecessor. Also, its new multifunctional step-up transformer acts as a filter reactor to reduce harmonics in AC output. Front access for easy cabling and maintenance enables diverse installation options. Hurricane Electric Expands Global Network to East Africa Data Centre in Nairobi

nairobiNairobi. Hurricane Electric, the world’s leading IPv6-native Internet backbone, today announced that it has added a new Point of Presence (PoP) in Nairobi at the East Africa Data Centre. Located at the Sameer Industrial Park, Mombasa Road in Nairobi, Kenya, this is Hurricane Electric’s first PoP Kenya and third in Africa. The East Africa Data Centre is one of the most connected facilities in the region and boasts long distance fibre routes to Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia and Somalia. Covering 2,000 m2 across four floors, the carrier neutral data centre offers N+1 cooling and power for its tenants as well as parallel UPS systems and N+1 diesel generators to maintain uptime. Additionally, the facility has been designed to meet International Data Centre Standards as outlined by TIA-942.
With the launch of Hurricane Electric’s newest PoP, customers of the East Africa Data Centre and others in the area now have a variety of new connectivity options as well as the ability to improve fault tolerance, load balancing, congestion management and transit of next-generation IPv6 traffic. Additionally, tenants at the East Africa Data Centre are able to exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s vast global network, which offers over 19,000 BGP sessions with over 6,500 different networks via more than 160 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.

Wrapped in the extravagant bodywork of an electric sports car that is utterly unique in the automotive industry, the QUANT 48VOLT, the company is showcasing the state-of-the-art in modern flow cell research. nanoFlowcell Holdings has succeeded in developing the first ever controllable flow cell that enables a standalone design for low-voltage electric drives without the need for heavy and expensive supercapacitors. And the 2+2-seater has no lack of power at its disposal – the 560 kW all-wheel drive delivers top speeds of up to 300 km/h. However, nanoFlowcell® 48VOLT is not just about powerful performance, but is also currently the lightest, safest, most environmentally compatible and most economical drive system available anywhere for electric vehicles.What makes the QUANT 48VOLT so special is the radical new design of its flow cell drive. The key is the improved membrane structure of the nanoFlowcell® and the series connection of several flow cells. Over two-and-a-half years of development, the company successfully applied a specialist nano process to increase the size of the flow cell’s membrane surface in a way that multiplied the reaction surface by several orders of magnitude without compromising the compactness of the cells. Another innovation in the QUANT 48VOLT is the first series connection of six flow cells, enabling more bi-ION electrolyte to be discharged in a shorter space of time, thus allowing more energy to be generated. In contrast to conventional lithium-ion battery systems, there is absolutely no danger of road users or first responders suffering an electric shock from a nanoFlowcell 48VOLT system, even in the event of a serious accident. Furthermore, the nanoFlowcell® electrolyte liquids are neither flammable nor explosive.
Standardisation for industrial-scale production of the low-voltage parts for a nanoFlowcell® 48VOLT electric car also offers substantial benefits – no expensive measures relating to high-voltage safety have to be met, leading to significant cost reductions in development, production and maintenance. The technical servicing of a nanoFlowcell® 48VOLT electric car can, for instance, be conducted by technicians without specialist high-voltage training.The QUANT 48VOLT with nanoFlowcell® low-voltage drive is forward-looking electric mobility. Drive Now Flexible London Carsharing Expand Fleet with 30 EVs

london-centralLondon, UK Today saw the launch of 30 BMW i3’s into London’s DriveNow carsharing service, the BMW / Sixt joint venture offering one-way flexible carsharing in the North London boroughs of Islington, Hackney, Haringey and Waltham Forest. Following their launch in December 2014, this takes their growing fleet total to 270 vehicles being used across the boroughs, offering residents and businesses a viable alternative to use of private cars with it’s on demand, pay per use model.
Today’s announcement means that over 11 percent of the fleet are full electric vehicles, as part of the exclusively BMW / Mini fleet of vehicles, making it London’s largest fleet of shared electric vehicles in a car club. Using the i3 will be a great move for the London carsharing customer, not least because of the emission free driving, but also the chance to test the new technology. The i3 is widely regarded as one of the most innovative EV’s on the market today, built with urban mobility at the heart of its development, and could become a truly important London carsharing vehicle as DriveNow grows. There are already over 10,000 members of the service in London alone, who will be given the opportunity to use the vehicles at competitive prices, in turn promoting the benefits of EVs to an increasing member base and local residents. There are several reasons that DriveNow have chosen to use the i3 in the carsharing fleet. As well as to improve the customer offer, with the new technology and highly acclaimed vehicles, which are also exempt from congestion charge (allowing more use cases), it is an opportunity to increase the marketing of the service, and gain operational insight into the use of EVs in their carsharing fleet. The marketing potential is not just related to the zero emissions from the vehicles and leveraging the new BMW model, but also to promote the benefits and potential application of electric vehicles to their customers of tomorrow. As more DriveNow customers understand how to use an EV in London, the more likely they will be to go and purchase one when they need their own private vehicle, is the theory, which may be more likely to be a BMW vehicle. It also educates Londoners on how to use the vehicles, a necessary intervention to drive behaviour change in cities to overcome range anxiety in particular, as well as operational concerns such as how to use the charging infrastructure. Given free driving credit will be offered to customers in return for charging the vehicles at the end of a rental, there is a good incentive to do so. Finally but importantly, it provides the opportunity to DriveNow to fully understand the operational pros and cons of using EVs in their flexible carsharing fleet. It is well documented that EVs currently cost more than the average combustion engine vehicle. Indeed, the list price of an entry level i3 vehicle at the time of writing is £30,980, compared to ~£20,000 for a BMW 1 series or £16,000 for a Mini Cooper (the other vehicles that make up the majority of the DriveNow fleet). Whilst this makes the business case more challenging, the main concern in London at present exists around the charging infrastructure. Of course, taking 4-6 hours to recharge wipes out a considerable proportion potential utilisation, but more importantly complications with the maintenance and contractual obligations in the transfer from TfL to private operator IER has led to as much as 35 percent of the charging stations unavailable due to faults. Given the fact that IER also operate carsharing firms in France, each London carsharing operator including DriveNow will be seeking clarifications from the local authorities as to the access and payment model to ensure a fair playing field is achieved. What is clear though from this announcement and the continuation of EV carsharing schemes around the globe, is that EV carsharing offers carsharing providers and particularly OEMs a great opportunity to leverage zero emission vehicles in high frequency urban use, and gives the city policy makers the potential to begin a shift from combustion engine to EV fleets by educating a wide pool of customers (carsharing members) with a small fleet of vehicles. Only a few months after launch, DriveNow have over 37 members to each of their vehicles, and exceed 100 members to vehicles in their developed market of Germany, thus using the opportunity to showcase their new EV to as many potential future EV customers as possible. With over 13 percent of global carsharing vehicles being electric already, Frost & Sullivan expect this to exceed 30 percent of carsharing fleets by 2020 given an increased entry from OEMs and support from city authorities to deliver EVs in carsharing fleets, such as parking/charging infrastructure incentives for example.

imagesSchneider ElectricRoma. Schneider Electric partecipa all’edizione 2015 di Forum PA, che si terrà al Palazzo dei Congressi di Roma dal 26 al 28 maggio prossimi. L’azienda, presente presso lo stand 15B, parteciperà attivamente al ricco programma di convegni che caratterizza la manifestazione, che si conferma anche quest’anno il più grande evento nazionale dedicato all’incontro tra domanda e offerta di innovazione in cui Governo, Amministrazioni Pubbliche centrali e locali e aziende possono confrontarsi sull’innovazione e modernizzazione del sistema pubblico italiano, esprimendo le necessità più stringenti e suggerendo le soluzioni più adatte.
Vincenzo Spagnoletti, Data Center / Secure Power & IT Partners Director, Schneider Electric Italy parteciperà al convegno “Ottimizzazione ed efficienza delle infrastrutture e delle risorse informatiche”, che si terrà la mattina del 28 maggio, e che sarà dedicato ai temi del cloud computing e del consolidamento data dei center, con l’obiettivo di evidenziare come la razionalizzazione del patrimonio ICT sia il fondamento alla base del processo di digitalizzazione della PA.“La PA può essere digitale ed efficiente allo stesso tempo, con un percorso che passi attraverso la standardizzazione e ottimizzazione delle applicazioni e delle infrastrutture, partendo da un’analisi dell’esistente,” commenta Spagnoletti, “Schneider Electric si conferma il partner privilegiato per accompagnare le PA in questo cammino, mettendo a disposizione le competenze e le soluzioni più adatte a favorire l’efficientamento delle infrastrutture informatiche della PA, a partire dal corretto dimensionamento del Data Center, leva per favorire risparmio energetico, cost saving e spending review.”La partecipazione di Schneider Electric all’evento sarà, inoltre, un’importante vetrina per il pubblico della capitale che potrà acquisire le informazioni relative alle più recenti novità annunciate che hanno ulteriormente ampliato la gamma di offerte per l’efficienza energetica, la protezione dell’alimentazione e il condizionamento di precisione, e confrontarsi con il management dell’azienda, a disposizione di clienti attuali e potenziali, per definire insieme nuove e interessanti opportunità di collaborazione.

“Electric Musical”

Voghera Venerdì 11 Giugno 2010 alle ore 21.15 Sports Time – Tennis Club – Via Sturla, 8 –  La seconda serata della 18a edizione del Festival Ultrapadum si ferma a al Tennis Club Sports Time di Voghera, dove, Venerdì 11 giugno alle ore 21.15, si terrà lo spettacolo “Electric Musicals”. Il musical è ideato dal noto chitarrista modenese Andrea Candeli con regia, scenografia e costumi di Chris Channing. Lo spettacolo racconta la storia del Musical attraverso un viaggio creato dagli artisti che ha come tappe una selezione accurata di brani tratti da opere come: Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, La piccola bottega degli orrori, Il Ballo del Vampiro, Cats e tanti altri.  Per questa bella serata dedicata al musical, saliranno sul palco i cantanti: Chris Channing ed Elisa Pau, accompagnati da: Andrea Candeli (chitarra), Michele Serafini (tastiera / flauto), Tommaso di Giorno (basso elettrico), Raffaele Veronesi (batteria), Thomas Romano (chitarra elettrica).
