Samsung Electronics Develops Industry’s First 12-Layer 3D-TSV Chip Packaging Technology

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 8 ottobre 2019

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today announced that it has developed the industry’s first 12-layer 3D-TSV (Through Silicon Via) technology. Samsung’s new innovation is considered one of the most challenging packaging technologies for mass production of high-performance chips, as it requires pinpoint accuracy to vertically interconnect 12 DRAM chips through a three-dimensional configuration of more than 60,000 TSV holes, each of which is one-twentieth the thickness of a single strand of human hair. The thickness of the package (720㎛) remains the same as current 8-layer High Bandwidth Memory-2 (HBM2) products, which is a substantial advancement in component design. This will help customers release next-generation, high-capacity products with higher performance capacity without having to change their system configuration designs. In addition, the 3D packaging technology also features a shorter data transmission time between chips than the currently existing wire bonding technology, resulting in significantly faster speed and lower power consumption.“Packaging technology that secures all of the intricacies of ultra-performance memory is becoming tremendously important, with the wide variety of new-age applications, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and High Power Computing (HPC),” said Hong-Joo Baek, executive vice president of TSP (Test & System Package) at Samsung Electronics. “As Moore’s law scaling reaches its limit, the role of 3D-TSV technology is expected to become even more critical. We want to be at the forefront of this state-of-the-art chip packaging technology.”Relying on its 12-layer 3D-TSV technology, Samsung will offer the highest DRAM performance for applications that are data-intensive and extremely high-speed.Also, by increasing the number of stacked layers from eight to 12, Samsung will soon be able to mass produce 24-gigabyte (GB)* High Bandwidth Memory, which provides three times the capacity of 8GB high bandwidth memory on the market today.Samsung will be able to meet the rapidly growing market demand for high-capacity HBM solutions with its cutting-edge 12-layer 3D TSV technology and it hopes to solidify its leadership in the premium semiconductor market.

METZ Debuts New OLED TV Set

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 6 settembre 2017

METZ at 2017 IFA in Berlin, Germany (PRNewsfoto/METZ)BERLIN, /PRNewswire/ Germany’s METZ Consumer Electronics GmbH held its new product presentation in the exhibition hall at IFA in Berlin Germany, introducing the product lineup that will be on exhibit at the event, including the new METZ TV set incorporating the latest OLED technology. The company unveiled its unique split-type OLED TV, Wallpaper, and showcased its Novum OLED TV and Android smart TVs.One of the highlights that METZ showcased at the product presentation is the new OLED TV, Wallpaper! The split-type TV set is comprised of two units, the OLED screen which is the visual part and a host machine which houses all of the operative components. The two parts are connected via a thin wire, which is fully hidden from view inside the wall of the home to create an invisible effect, with the TV set, in all appearances, looking like a mural that is suspended on the wall. The TV set incorporates the OLED screen, at a miraculously thin 3.65mm. The screen is attached to a toughened glass rear panel that is fastened to the wall, creating a perfect ultra-thin visual effect.OLED has the best picture quality available. It does not need a backlight, as each pixel is independent from the other in terms of light and shading, delivering an incomparable screen display contrast, visual angle and movement-picture response. Conventional LCD screens glow through the backlight, which emits harmful blue light with wavelengths ranging from 415nm to 455nm, while, with the OLED screen, each pixel precisely emits the light with the METZ displays its OLED TV sets at 2017 IFA in Berlin, Germany (PRNewsfoto/METZ)wavelengths needed through imaging, reducing the blue light that is not only an irritant but also harmful to human eyes.At the new product presentation, METZ also displayed its award-winning Novum OLED TV. METZ’s portfolio also includes Topas and Planea, two high-end UHD HDR TV series, and the entry-level 4K series.Following two years of planning, METZ returns to the spotlight with a fresh start. OLED is a future-oriented display technology, and one of the most exciting future topics in the TV set industry. LG ElectronicsENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J.3BL Media/ – Recognizing LG Electronics’ leadership in environmental sustainability, Corporate Responsibility Magazine, the leading voice of corporate responsibility, has named LG Electronics USA President and CEO William Cho as 2015 Responsible CEO of the Year. Selected by an independent judging panel of previous winners and other industry leaders, Cho was singled out for excellence in environmental impact and sustainability. CR Magazine’s judges considered a number of key metrics including the scope of the CEO’s impact on his organization and community, the extent to which the CEO drove this initiative, and the individual reputation or professional risk taken by the CEO. Under Cho’s leadership, LG Electronics has further increased its commitment to bringing to market innovative ENERGY STAR® certified products that deliver significant energy savings and lessen the impact on the world around us, while driving consumer awareness about climate change and significantly reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its U.S. operations. “We at CR applaud LG’s commitment to introducing innovative products that are developed with the environment in mind,” said Elliot H. Clark, CEO of SharedXpertise Media LLC, publisher of CR Magazine and co-founder (with the Corporate Responsibility Association) of the COMMIT!Forum, recognized worldwide as the leading event for corporate responsibility practitioners. “Mr. Cho has taken a leading role in advancing a corporate culture in which sustainability is treated as a core business principle. His efforts have been critical in reducing the company’s environmental impact while enhancing the quality of life for consumers,” Clark said. In his relatively short time as CEO of LG Electronics USA (since January 2014), Cho has made a major impact on the company and the industry. His vision drove LG’s efforts to introduce scores of innovative, energy-efficient products into the U.S. market –including the launch the first commercially available heat pump dryer in the U.S. – and securing LG’s recognition as 2015 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year. Under Cho’s leadership, the company has implemented a number of key initiatives in support of LG’s industry-leading goal of reducing GHG emissions in its U.S. operations by 50 percent by 2020. Among his other noteworthy achievements, LG has launched a new design for its New Jersey-based North American headquarters – with strong support of conservation groups for the $300 million LEED Platinum green building project. Equally significant is the CEO’s role in advancing a corporate culture in which sustainability is treated as a core business principle. In short, LG’s environmental management and product sustainability strategy focuses on energy, resources and human factors:
Improving how LG products use energy – by enhancing energy efficiency through reduced power and stand-by power consumption, and reduced CO2 emissions throughout the product lifecycle. Improving how LG uses natural resources – by reducing product weight and volume, using more recycled materials, and designing products for easier recycling.Improving the human experience – by phasing out hazardous substances and improving the home environment.“This recognition, while humbling to me personally, really reflects LG’s progress toward excellence in environmental sustainability,” Cho said. “I am honored to accept on behalf of the talented team of men and women at LG USA who share my view that we all have a shared responsibility to protect our planet.”Clark said, “In an era where the greatest pressure is a quarterly drive to deliver financial results, it is impressive to have leading CEOs like Mr. Cho striving toward corporate responsibility. Leaders like these prove that long-term success is comprised of many measures; great social and environmental practices deliver long term profitability and performance in many areas.” (photo: LG Electronics)
