Maximillian Kieffer holds a narrow lead after the opening day of the Alstom

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 3 luglio 2015

victorAfter two and a half hours were lost to bad weather this morning, home favourite Victor Dubuisson and Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger set the clubhouse pace with three under par rounds of 68 at Le Golf National, the venue for the 2018 Ryder Cup. German Kieffer was four under through 14 holes, albeit with the notoriously difficult closing stretch to come, to lead Dubuisson, Wiesberger, late finisher Jaco van Zyl and Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Andrew Dodt, both of whom had a hole remaining when bad light set in.Kieffer has made 16 cuts in 16 events this season, and had birdies either side of a double bogey on the second.Further gains on the fifth and ninth saw him turn in 34, and back-to-back birdies put the 25 year old ahead as he chases a maiden European Tour title.World Number 37 Dubuisson has struggle for form this season, but after reaching the turn level par the 25 year old made birdies at the third, fifth and seventh from close range. The Ryder Cup star had to scramble par on the ninth his last, as did Wiesberger, whose four birdies were blemished only by a dropped shot on the eighth.“I had a really unlucky bogey on 14 with three good shots, and then the most difficult holes were coming – 15, 16 and 18,” said Dubuisson, whose only top-ten finish of 2015 to date came in Abu Dhabi back in January.“I managed to stay calm and make a really good birdie on 18. On this course, it can turn really bad, and what I did today was very good especially with all this pressure“I’m very pleased. I feel the expectation and a little bit of pressure from the crowd, because I especially want to do well for them, more than in other tournaments. This one is like a Major for me.”In contrast to Dubuisson, Wiesberger has had five top tens this season including runner-up finishes in Malaysia and Ireland. And the two-time European Tour winner was pleased to continue his good form.“I played okay,” he said. “I was not driving it great early on, and I scrambled around and had a couple of four and five footers for par. But the chances I had, I took nicely. I was just those two hiccups on the last, the three putt and not getting up and down from beside the green on the ninth.“In general, given the windy conditions early on, I’m quite happy with that. I think it’s just a great test overall. From the first hole to the last, you’re under pressure and you need to hit really good shots to make birdies.”Van Zyl produced an impressive flawless round, although the South African’s effort could well be matched by Cabrera-Bello when play resumes on Friday, with the Spaniard having completed 17 bogey-free holes.“It’s one of those golf courses where there are a couple of holes you can score on, but you can never really let your guard down,” said Van Zyl.“One day I’ll be hitting it nicely and the putter is not behaving, and the next day the putter is behaving but I’m not hitting it as well. I’m just waiting for it all to come back in one piece and then hopefully it will be a good week.”Two-time Major winner Martin Kaymer was part of the group in the clubhouse on two under par, while Graeme McDowell was one over par with one to play as he seeks a hat-trick of titles in the event. Those still yet to finish their first round will resume at 0730 local time tomorrow morning with round two tee times also scheduled to begin at the same time.

Registration for the qualifier opens this Thursday April 18 and will close on May 23 rd.As its denomination of “Open” since its inception in 1906 implies, the Alstom Open de France offers a chance to both amateurs and professionals, not already qualified through their results on the European Tour, to play the oldest national open in Continental Europe. To do so, any male professional member of a recognised PGA, and any male amateur with a maximum handicap of 0, may register for the qualifying stage of the 2013 Alstom Open de France, which will be held July 4-7 at Le Golf National near Versailles.Open to a maximum field of 156, qualifying will take place on Monday June 17 at the NGF Apremont Golf, in the northern outskirts of Paris, and on the “lilas+noir” combination of the Stade Français Golf, South of the capital. The Tournament Committee will first assign a course to each player for his qualifying. At stake for every competitor, the opportunity to clinch one of the remaining 8 spots in the field of the 2013 event, and fulfil the dream of emulating Spain’s Pablo Larrazábal, the 2008 champion, who stands as the only player coming from the qualifying stage to then lift the Edward George Stoïber trophy.
