Oradea, Romania, 3-6 November 2011. The bishops representing the fourteen Eastern Rite Catholic Churches in Europe will devote the reflections at their annual meeting to the theme of the New Evangelisation. The meeting in Oradea (Romania) constitutes, in fact, the only opportunity for the Greek-Catholic bishops to discuss the theme together before the 13th Assembly of the Synod of Bishops (Rome, October 2012) …. “We are aware that the Eastern Rite Catholic Churches in Europe have their own specific contribution to make to the thirteenth Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in 2012”, said His Beatitude Lucian Mureşan, Major Archbishop of Făgăras and Alba Iulia (Romanian) and President of the Romanian Bishops’ Conference. “The meeting in Oradea therefore constitutes not just an important moment for preparation, but also one of comparison about some of the challenges linked to the ability to proclaim the Gospel in our Churches, which in the twenty years since the fall of the totalitarian regimes have had to face up to societies in rapid change in which secularisation, emigration and relativism have modified the paradigms and methods not just of church belonging and religious practice, but also of the transmission and proclamation of the Gospel, and so they call our Churches to a communal discernment aimed at finding appropriate solutions for the current socio-cultural cont

The New Evangelisation of Europe

Tirana, from 29 September to 2 October 2011. Thursday 29 September at 12,30 in Tirana at the Hotel Rogner Europark, a press conference is organised. Will attend the press conference, cardinal Péter Erdő, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest and CCEE President, cardinal Josip Bozanić, Archbishop of Zagreb and CCEE Vice-president, cardinal Jean-Pierre Ricard, Archbishop of Bordeaux and CCEE Vice-president and the Metropolitan Archbishop of Tirana-Dürres, Mgr. Rrok Mirdita.Central theme of the assembly will be the New Evangelisation. To facilitate the discussion, CCEE has sent a questionnaire to the Bishops’ Conferences in order to collect and highlight ideas, situations and proposals. In Tirana, reflection on the theme will be entrusted to Jean Luc Moens, former co-ordinator of the experience of city missions in European capitals, who will have the task of summarising the responses received by CCEE in these weeks, and to Mgr Salvatore Fisichella, President of the Vatican dicastery for Promoting New Evangelisation. The Tirana meeting will be the only opportunity for joint work on this issue for all the European Bishops’ Conferences prior to the Synod of Bishops in 2012. In Tirana, the Presidents of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe members of CCEE will elect the new CCEE Presidency for the quinquennial period 2011-2016. All the current Presidents of the Bishops’ Conferences are eligible for the posts of President and the two Vice-presidents.
The second part of the meeting will focus instead on CCEE’s service to the Church in Europe with presentations about the activities of the various CCEE Commissions, about CCEE’s work in the sphere of ecumenical dialoguewith the appointment of the members of CCEE-CEC (Conference of European Churches) Joint Committee. The programme of the next Symposium of African and European bishops (Rome, 13-17 February 2012) will be presented and there will be a discussion on the 2nd European Social Days organised along with ComECE and scheduled for 2013 in Granada (Spain). There will be a presentation on Eurocathinfo.eu, the Institutional Information Portal and the Intranet of the Bishops’ Conferences in Europe (on-line by the end of the year). Part of the work will then be devoted to dialogue with the European institutions (the European Union and the Council of Europe) and the activities of the Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination Against Christians in Europe will be presented.
During the meeting, the vice-president of the German bishops’ Conferences, Mgr Heinrich Mussinghoff, Bishop of Aachen, will report on the recent visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Germany (22-25 September) and other short presentations about 2011 apostolic visits will be presented: to Croatia (4-5 June) and to Spain for World Youth Day (Madrid, 16-21 August). Subsequently, along with His Beatitude Fouad Twal, Latin Rite Patriarch of Jerusalem, the bishops will reflect on how to help Christians in the Holy Land. In Tirana, participants will also be informed about two future meetings taking place in Europe: the World Meeting of Families (Milan, Italy, 30 May-2 June 2012) and the50th International Eucharistic Congress (Dublin, Ireland, 10-17 June 2012). Also taking part in the meeting of the Presidents of the European Bishops’ Conferences will be: for the Holy See, Cardinal Marc Ouellet, Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops; Mgr Ramiro Moliner Inglés, Apostolic Nuncio to Albania; and delegates from continental bodies such as SECAM (Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar) and CELAM (Latin-American Bishops’ Conferences).
