Why do we talk so much about the events that affected the 20th century?

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 17 agosto 2019

And we do this above all by focusing our attention on the Second World War, which we can consider the most destructive and full of victims with its 50 million deaths. Because from that moment we have marked our future indelibly. We have uncovered an atrocities that has no equal and the killing of six million Jews is to prove it. But there is also the stimulus to progress, laying the foundations for an unprecedented scientific, industrial, pharmacological and technological research. We saved lives with the therapeutic evolution of medicine and killed them by making weapons of mass destruction. We have given hope to the oppressed peoples and have enslaved them with false hopes. We have improved our living conditions by enslaving technology to progress and we have made it regress with poverty and misery. The world population has grown out of proportion, guaranteeing the right to life and we have made it die by denying it the right to live. All this doing and undoing has increased in many of us the thirst for power, selfishness, self-giving, easy enrichment. We created monsters exalting them and making martyrs and heroes into a minority, debasing their moral charge. We have done everything and the opposite of everything with profit logic, acceptable from an ethical point of view, but distorted in the moments in which we have enslaved them to the interests of part in the logic “Mors tua vita mea”. Women’s Ordination Advocates to Host Parallel Synod Events in Rome

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 29 settembre 2018

Rome Thursday, 4 October, 15:00 Casa Santa Maria alle Fornaci, Piazza Santa Maria alle Fornaci, 27 A panel discussion, “Discerning Women: Voices Outside the Synod,” will feature the voices, witness and testimony of women called to priesthood, international feminist theologians, and activists calling for a Church that works for justice and inclusion in the world.Women’s Ordination Conference resists the Vatican’s attempts to silence the voices of women in decision-making and sacramental roles by lifting up all women who are called to priesthood and all people who call for equality in Church structures. The pain of this closed door is felt deeply around the world and perpetuates discrimination and injustices against women and girls in society.”One of the things that the current crisis in the Church brings to light yet again is the reality that when you have men alone in positions of decision-making and authority, it creates a clerical culture where the reputation of priests gets prioritized over the needs of the people of God,” said Kate McElwee, Executive Director of Women’s Ordination Conference. “It is more urgent than ever to create a new way of being church that includes people of all genders together in transparent, accountable sacramental leadership.”
Jacqueline Straub: Born in 1990 in Sigmaringen in the south of Germany, Jacqueline has felt called to be a Catholic priest from the age of 15. She studied Catholic theology in Freiburg i.Br. (Germany), Fribourg (Switzerland) and had graduated with a Master’s degree in Catholic theology in Lucerne. She works as a freelance journalist, TV editor and author. Her book, Young, Catholic, Female, was released in Italian, Giovane cattolica donna. Perché voglio diventare prete and will be available from her publisher Gabrielli Editori at the event.
Paola Lazzarini, Ph.D: is a sociologist, trainer and freelance journalist who wrote the Manifesto for Women for the Church (Donne Per La Chiesa), published in L’Osservatore Romano and throughout Italian media outlets. Dr. Lazzarini started several regional women’s groups throughout Italy to discuss the Manifesto and ways to take action. Dr. Lazzarini lives with her husband and daughter in Cagliari.
Zuzanna Radzik: is a Catholic theologian and journalist from Warsaw (Poland). Initially interested only in Jewish-Christian relations, she discovered that it is hard to do any work in the Church while being a woman. She just published Emancypantki. Kobiety, Które Zbudowały Kościół, her second book about women in the Church and Christian feminism, and continues her effort to uphold Catholic feminism in Poland.
Jamie Manson: is a columnist and books editor at the National Catholic Reporter. She received her Master of Divinity degree from Yale Divinity School, where she studied Catholic theology and sexual ethics. She is editor of Changing the Questions: Explorations in Christian Ethics, a collection of writings by Margaret Farley (Orbis, 2015). Her writing has won numerous awards and her activism on behalf of women in the church recently garnered her the Theresa Kane Award for Women of Courage and Vision from the Women’s Ordination Conference.

On the events of recent days in Cairo

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 13 ottobre 2011

The Hanging Church is Cairo's most famous Copt...

Image via Wikipedia

In the face of the events of recent days in Cairo, sure in the knowledge of belonging to the same communion in Christ who died and rose, as European Bishops we wish to restate our closeness to all Citizens in Egypt, and especially to our brothers in the Coptic Christian community, affected in these days by the murderous violence against peace, harmony between religions, freedom and human dignity. The presence of Coptic Christians in Egypt dates back to the preaching of Saint Mark the Evangelist, and from that time their community has been a gift for Egyptian society and the whole of the Middle East. Citizens like all others, Christians, too, are committed to the building of society in freedom, justice, truth and love. In this beloved Nation, the friendship existing and manifested at various recent events between people of different religious denominations is a sign of true hope. We call on the governments of the European countries to take a stance in defense of all those who, as Christians, are subjected to attacks because of their religious, ethnic or social belonging. We pray to the Lord for all Christians in Egypt, that He may give them the strength to continue to be authentic witnesses of Christ and of fraternity with all people, without which there will not be a better future for individual nations or humanity.

Italian rally drivers

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 28 marzo 2010

After about three months of events in Italy and abroad the IRDA, International Rally Drivers Association, published the updated 2010 ranking of the overall classification of the best Italian and San Marino rally drivers. The IRDA is established through a points system, which are calculated on the basis of the importance,  sporting difficulties and results of drivers and codrivers from Italy and San Marino in rallies recognized by both the FIA and ACI CSAI, national and international. A Ranking which aims to be objective, according to the  results obtained in the last 365 days (one year) of races, in which thousands of San Marino and Italian rallymen  (drivers and codrivers) may see their value recognized as a whole, The Ranking is not a career award, but it  rewards, in a comprehensive way, the drivers for the value of their victories and their results in the last year of  racing, something that the current classification systems obviously do not allow being based on rankings for each series, trophy or rally without a single national ranking. The first thirty Italian and San Marino drivers  classified in any rally in the world may enter the ranking. The drivers who have earned the points necessary to  enter the IRDA rankings currently are 1314 (Italy and San Marino)

The ability to create events

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 17 settembre 2009

London. The increasing importance of social networking websites as a recruitment tool has been further underlined after it emerged that Japanese bank Nomura used social networking website Facebook to hire former employees of Lehman Brothers after the collapse of the US investment bank last year.  Nomura has reportedly hired about 60 percent of the graduate trainees which were let go by Lehman after it went bankrupt, with Facebook playing a vital role in enabling the Japanese bank to locate the trainees it wanted to hire. Social networking websites such as Facebook, Linkedin and the micro blogging website Twitter are playing an increasingly important role, both as a recruitment tool or in the personal branding of professionals. Martin Warner, co-founder of free business social networking site, Talkbiznow.com, says: “It is no surprise that Facebook was one of the first places that Nomura went when looking for the ex-Lehman graduate trainees. Social networking websites have quickly become essential tools in business and this is just the beginning. Talkbiznow has been devised specifically to tap into the pent up demand to use social networks for business.” It is now commonplace on social networking sites to be able to search, view and contact members completely free of charge. Users also have the ability to create events, join groups and post comments in forums. The latest Ofcom report shows that 50% of internet users in Britain now have an online social networking profile. “Having an online profile now is becoming as normal as having a mobile phone; those that don’t have one are missing out on a new level of communication,” says Warner.

Finance report approved with amendment

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 21 luglio 2009

The 13th Assembly of CEC approved the report of its finance committee on the afternoon of Monday 20 July. This decision followed lengthy discussion and a series of votes amending one sentence dealing with consequences for member churches that fail to meet minimum standards for financial support of the Conference of European Churches. One practical dimension of this measure applies to bodies like the Russian Orthodox Church, which has suspended its membership pending the outcome of negotiations over the standing of Estonian Orthodox communities in CEC. The language of the report as originally proposed contained a recommendation that representatives of churches neglecting the minimum standard for contributions would be denied the right to vote, would not be invited to participate in CEC-sponsored events and would not receive subsidies from CEC for travel or lodging expenses. Elizabeth Fisher, moderator of CEC’s Churches in Dialogue Commission, moved an amendment deleting the refusal to extend invitations to CEC-sponsored events. She argued that dialogue was an essential part of the ecumenical vocation and that no church should be banned from the prospect of such engagement. After complex deliberations, the assembly acted to remove the clause on invitations. Assembly advisors also warned that the proposed denial of the right to vote faces constitutional obstacles and is a matter that must be referred to CEC’s central committee. The financial report also called for careful monitoring of CEC’s budget in light of the global financial crisis and the expenditures arising from the 13th Assembly in Lyon. The report underlined a stipulation in planning for a special constitutional assembly in 2013 that such a meeting is contingent on CEC leadership identifying sources of funds to support it.

America’s National Parks

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 18 aprile 2009

The White House  They are among our Nation’s most precious treasures. During National Park Week, we celebrate  these spaces and commit to protecting them for future generations of Americans.  National Parks bring together Americans of all backgrounds  and help us understand the story of America. From the Lincoln  Memorial and Ellis Island to the Great Smoky Mountains and  Yellowstone, National Parks attract visitors from across the  country and from all walks of life. The grandeur and simplicity  of these areas inspire visitors no matter their personal  stories. National Parks also help Americans learn more about  our shared history. From the Prehistoric Trackways National  Monument to the Civil War battlefield at Gettysburg, National  Parks allow Americans to explore our Nation’s past and to  understand events that occurred over the long course of our history.  Our system of National Parks is entrusted to each  generation of Americans. We have an obligation to our children  to keep these spaces pristine. As citizen stewards, Americans  can participate in efforts in their communities to preserve  National Parks, and support policies that achieve this end.  My Administration continues to advocate for initiatives that  protect and expand National Parks. The American Recovery  and Reinvestment Act promotes conservation and creates new  job opportunities in National Parks, and the Omnibus Public  Land Management Act designates thousands of miles of trails  for the National Trails System, protects more than 1,000 miles  of rivers, and secures millions of acres of wilderness.  This week we also honor the committed professionals and  volunteers working every day to support the National Parks.  Laboring among towering mountains and broad plains, in city  centers, and along our rivers and seashores, these Americans  deserve thanks for their contributions to current and future  generations. (Barack Obama)
