Higher Education IT Pulse Study from TeamDynamix Reports Campuses Focused on Engagement and Student Experience

The 2018 TDX Higher Ed Market Study from TeamDynamix has been released and the results indicate college and university information technology departments will focus more on creating a unified student experience. Typically, a “unified student experience” results in initiatives to improve student portals, make it easier to share information, and improve efficiency in IT departmental responses to service requests from all campus departments from Facilities to Residential Life. Click to Tweet.The 2018 TDX Higher Ed Market Study surveyed 104 IT leaders from college campuses ranging in size from 5,000 to 50,000 students. Key findings include:
45 percent of study participants have an initiative to roll out one service platform across IT, Facilities, Residential Life, Human Resources, and other departments.
Managing projects and specific work requests will no longer occur in isolation as 50 percent of the participants report bringing project portfolio management and service management together on one platform.
In evaluating effectiveness of student portals, participants gave student portals 2.77 stars out of 5 and identified that areas of improvement include creating better workflow and automation behind the portal as well as using one portal across campus.

A student who has ongoing IT issues or, for example, must inquire multiple times about financial aid is essentially sending up red flags that the IT system is not meeting their needs. These red flags can be valuable data points for the campus IT department, however, are just one component of evaluating engagement.

Josef and Anni Albers. Voyage inside a blind experience

Siena, 6 aprile – 4 luglio 2018 Santa Maria della Scala ospita l’esposizione Josef and Anni Albers. Voyage inside a blind experience. Il progetto è nato grazie a una collaborazione internazionale tra il Santa Maria della Scala di Siena, il The Glucksman, University College Cork, il Museo di arte contemporanea di Zagabria, l’Istituto dei Ciechi di Milano e Atlante Servizi Culturali, che ne ha curato la realizzazione, ed è cofinanziato dal programma Europa Creativa 2014-2020 dell’Unione Europea. La Mostra, a cura di Gregorio Battistoni e Samuele Boncompagni, sarà ospitata, in seguito, in altre due sedi museali europee, presso il The Glucksman, University College Cork in Irlanda e al Muzej suvremene umjetnosti Zagreb, in Croazia. L’obiettivo del progetto VIBE. Voyage Inside a Blind Experience è quello di creare una mostra d’arte temporanea fruibile con pari interesse sia da soggetti normovedenti che da persone con disabilità visiva in cui le opere sono accompagnate da speciali tecnologie in grado di offrire a tutti i tipi di pubblico suggestioni tattili e uditive.
Il catalogo e il sito web saranno realizzati in funzione del progetto: il catalogo della mostra sarà completamente in braille con all’interno riproduzioni tattili in termorilievo, mentre il sito web realizzato e certificato dall’Istituto dei Ciechi di Milano, può essere accessibile anche ai non vedenti. Tutte le didascalie in mostra, inoltre, saranno in braille.

NIO Launches ES8 SUV with New User Experience

nioThe NIO ES8 is a 7-seater high performance electric SUV. The NIO ES8 has a base price of RMB 448,000 before subsidies, with 10,000 Founder’s Editions available for RMB 548,000. A battery rental plan is available to NIO users, which provides a RMB 100,000 discount on the purchase price of the ES8. The battery rental subscription is RMB 1,280 per month and enables ES8 owners to enjoy battery upgrading services, along with quality assurance, roadside assistance, car connectivity, and nationwide charging services. The NIO ES8 is customized and will be made to order. Those interested in purchasing an ES8 can place an order through the NIO App.With both front and rear motors, the NIO ES8 delivers 480 kilowatts of power and 840 Newton meters of torque to all four wheels. This E-powertrain enables the ES8 to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. The latest active air suspension on all ES8’s models creates comfortable, connected riding experience.The ES8 is equipped with a 70-kilowatt-hour liquid-cooled battery pack comprised of cutting-edge VDA square cell batteries. These cells feature the highest energy density of their kind and provide a 2,000-charge lifecycle. The ES8’s drag coefficient is as low as 0.29. The ES8 achieves over 500 kilometers of range when constantly run at 60 kph, and the car achieves an NEDC range of 355 kilometers.The ES8 goes beyond five-star safety. The ES8 is the first car to have an all-aluminium body and chassis featuring aerospace grade 7003 series aluminium alloy, enabling a torsional stiffness of 44,140 Nm/Deg. The ES8 features the highest amount of aluminium for any mass production car. With the excellent passive safety design and 21 active safety features, the ES8 stands out among vehicles in its class.The ES8 is produced at a world-class fully automated factory. The R&D, design, supply chain, and factory ensure the ES8’s premium quality. The ES8 will finish a 3,000,000 km road test before NIO begins delivering the vehicle to users.
The ES8 has a 3,010 millimeter long wheelbase, the longest in its class, to create a truly mobile living space. The three-row, seven-seat layout makes full use of the interior space. The innovative “lounge seat” and “child-care mode”, together with the Nappa leather wrap, creates a cozy atmosphere, making users feel at home. The smart air quality system includes an activated carbon and HEPA filter and negative ion generator.
NIO introduces NOMI, the world’s first in-car AI system. NIO unveils NIO Power, a new charging experience that allows the ES8’s battery to be swapped in three minutes. NIO Power also includes NIO Power Home, super charger network, and Power Mobile. Power Mobile is a brand-new power service product developed by NIO, which enables an ES8 to run 100 kilometers after charging for ten minutes. Ecco gli scienziati di domani: parte da Napoli Amgen Biotech Experience

Riuscire a far vivere la scienza a studenti e insegnanti, portando nelle classi superiori l’educazione scientifica “pratica” con la creazione di laboratori per le biotecnologie, che tanto hanno contribuito negli ultimi decenni al progresso della medicina e all’innovazione terapeutica per molte gravi malattie. È questo l’obiettivo di Amgen Biotech Experience – ABE della Fondazione Amgen, che porta avanti questa iniziativa da oltre 30 anni negli Stati Uniti e ora ha esteso il programma anche in Asia e in molti altri Paesi europei, tra cui l’Italia. ABE è un programma internazionale di formazione sperimentale sulle biotecnologie e di innovazione metodologica basata sull’IBSE (Inquiry Based Science Education) ed è destinato agli studenti delle scuole superiori e ai docenti di scienze naturali.
Dopo una fase pilota condotta nell’anno accademico 2016-2017, ABE Site Italy, realizzato grazie alla cooperazione tra ANISN e Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, fregiato da un gemellaggio di prestigio con l’ABE Site Massachusetts, riparte ufficialmente nel nostro Paese. Oggi l’inaugurazione a Napoli (Università Federico II, Sala Azzurra, Monte S. Angelo) con una cerimonia che vede riuniti oltre a studenti e docenti, rappresentanti del MIUR, USR, ANISN, ABE Site di Harvard ed il Magnifico Rettore della Federico II.
«In Italia il programma ha coinvolto, nella fase pilota, un gruppo di 20 docenti delle scuole superiori provenienti da 5 Regioni italiane. La formazione è stata realizzata presso il Dipartimento di Biologia dell’Università degli Studi Federico II di Napoli dallo staff dell’ABE Site Italy costituito da esperti dell’IBSE e da scienziati – dichiara Anna Pascucci, Presidente dell’Associazione Nazionale Insegnanti di Scienze Naturali (ANISN) e Direttore dell’ABE Site Italy – il corso ha coniugato attività sperimentali e formazione metodologica, approfondimenti scientifici e riflessioni sulla natura della Scienza. Gli insegnanti prima, durante la formazione e gli studenti poi, a scuola, hanno dovuto affrontare situazioni complesse, con variabili da identificare, eventuali imprevisti sperimentali, fornire una rigorosa spiegazione dei risultati in base alle evidenze e ai dati, ricercare il motivo dell’errore se c’è stato, confrontare i propri risultati con quelli degli altri, e individuare nuove domande di ricerca».
A sottolineare l’importanza di Amgen Biotech Experience, i dati emersi da una recente ricerca realizzata da WestEd1: è stato registrato un significativo miglioramento tra gli studenti che hanno aderito al corso di formazione sia sull’apprendimento sia sull’interesse verso la scienza e le biotecnologie. Il 53% degli studenti si è detto più interessato a conoscere la ricerca scientifica e l’82% si è fatto nuove idee su ciò che accade nei laboratori scientifici.
Il programma Amgen Biotech Experience stimola e incrementa un forte interesse per la scienza da parte degli studenti e li può aiutare a pensare a sé stessi in un futuro non molto lontano all’interno di ruoli nei quali affronteranno malattie complesse e contribuiranno al miglioramento della salute.
«È noto che in Italia, come in altri Paesi di grande tradizione negli studi umanistici, la diffusione della cultura scientifica sia penalizzata – afferma Luciano Gaudio, Professore di Genetica, Dipartimento di Biologia dell’Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II – per questo vanno apprezzate tutte le iniziative, come quella promossa da Amgen, che hanno l’obiettivo di incrementare il livello della consapevolezza scientifica nel nostro Paese. Lo scopo non deve essere quello di creare dei tuttologi, ma persone con competenze scientifiche di base e con sufficienti capacità critiche per identificare e distinguere informazioni attendibili da notizie-spazzatura».
Il corso di formazione ABE Site Italy è gratuito e nell’anno scolastico 2017-2018 sarà rivolto a docenti delle scuole superiori delle regioni Lazio, Umbria, Campania e Puglia. Il programma prevede la formazione dal 15 al 18 gennaio 2018 di 24 docenti selezionati in base a specifici requisiti, la sperimentazione a scuola con alunni del triennio, la fornitura gratuita di materiali e strumentazioni per realizzare le attività.

Santander migliora la Client Experience grazie alle App iOS Enterprise di IBM

Queste app native progettate su misura per iOS verranno distribuite su oltre 11.000 dispositivi, rivoluzionando l’approccio alle attività quotidiane dei dipendenti della rete commerciale Santander, fra cui quelli impiegati nei settori Corporate, PMI e Retail, e potenziando la loro produttività.
Tramite i propri iPhone, i dipendenti Santander potranno infatti avere un accesso immediato alle informazioni più aggiornate su prodotti, servizi e clienti, che consentiranno loro di fornire suggerimenti più mirati ai clienti per i prodotti bancari del Gruppo, come ad esempio il conto Santander 1|2|3 per le PMI; un conto che offre diversi vantaggi finanziari tra cui incentivi cashback per i clienti, premi sotto forma di quote Santander e un’elevata redditività. Queste app iOS saranno progettate all’insegna di un approccio incentrato sull’utente, e verranno sviluppate su misura per i dipendenti impiegati presso le sedi centrali di Santander e su tutta la rete bancaria. Il primo set di app di cui è prevista l’implementazione includerà:
• Achievement Overview: aiuta i direttori di filiale e i supervisori territoriali a monitorare i principali indicatori dei risultati in qualsiasi momento, navigando fra obiettivi finanziari e metriche di prestazioni su prodotti, clienti e aree geografiche.
• Easy Risk: offre agli operatori un accesso mobile alle metriche per i requisiti di capitale e la gestione del rischio. I responsabili saranno inoltre in grado di accedere alle politiche di rischio e ai rapporti di settore disponibili presso Santander, così come alle ultime notizie e ai rapporti del macroambiente. “L’innovazione è una delle caratteristiche distintive di Santander. Questa collaborazione con IBM ci aiuterà ad accelerare la nostra trasformazione digitale e migliorare l’esperienza dei clienti per anticipare le loro esigenze”, afferma Javier Cuenca, Direttore responsabile T&O Area, Banco Santander.
IBM lavorerà con Santander per progettare, sviluppare e implementare velocemente e con efficienza diverse app iOS native tramite Swift, il linguaggio di programmazione di Apple. TeamViewer coopera con Osterhout Design Group per migliorare la User Experience della Realtà Aumentata

TeamViewer®, uno dei principali fornitori di software per il controllo remoto e la collaborazione online, ha annunciato l’integrazione con Osterhout Design Group (ODG), produttore degli smartglasses per la realtà aumentata più avanzati al mondo, il modello R-7.Grazie a questo accordo, gli utenti hanno accesso al supporto tecnico da remoto mentre utilizzano smartglasses R-7. Gli smartglasses ODG hanno riscosso molto interesse in vari settori: sanità, energia, trasporti, logistica e stoccaggio e pubblica amministrazione. Anche la NASA li ha adottati per migliorare l’esplorazione dello spazio. Basato su ReticleOS – il sistema operativo di ODG basato su Android – QuickSupport di TeamViewer migliora la user experience abilitando le connessioni da remoto in modo molto semplice per un supporto in tempo reale. Grazie a questa integrazione, i tecnici hanno la possibilità di vedere esattamente ciò che l’utente che indossa gli martglasses R-7 sta osservando e possono fornire istruzioni e supporto direttamente “sul campo”.

Catella: Use of big data in the real estate sector often underestimated; innovation leaps expected

The trend of increased use of big data in the real estate sector is creating opportunities for innovation leaps and will lead to changes in forecasting methods, new and more transparent pricing methods and personalised property marketing. In its new report, BIG DATA in the real estate sector – opportunity or threat to the industry? Catella Research examined the status quo and the future viability of the European real estate sector against the backdrop of digitalisation. The survey covers 468 European real estate firms.“Big data is seen as relevant and revolutionary for the future development of the real estate sector. But although all the firms included in the survey produce masses of data, only a small proportion of them integrate it comprehensively as a process element in service provision, forecasting, or strategic planning”, says Dr Thomas Beyerle, Head of Research at Catella.
The majority of firms (60.4%) currently make decisions based on past experience; only a quarter (23.4%) indicated that they make decisions based on data. A further 11.7% reported using a combination of data and experience. The largest transparency deficits in real estate markets were identified as Data/survey methods not standardised (34.2%), No central data source (21.1%) and No data available at sub-market level (19.2%).Asked about the greatest sectoral changes resulting from ongoing digitalisation, 30.5% expect structural changes in the area of property investment, followed by 23.8% in transaction consulting. Only 5.7% expect any noticeable change in the area of property finance. catella1This will lead to changes in forecasting methods; issues of outsourcing or make-or-buy decisions in the real estate industry will top the decision-making agenda.“We anticipate major structural changes for the industry, especially in the area of customer-based specialisation and transparent pricing. But answers will also have to be found to the issue of ownership structures of the data. There is a latent risk that data oligopolies will emerge in the industry”, says Dr Beyerle.
But Catella is confident that the increased use of data will provide opportunities for innovation leaps, especially in the real estate industry. A prerequisite is that the development is driven not only by mundane concerns such as data availability, consistent standards or simply transparency, but by the realisation that data is the key to long-term financial success. We can already see that the new, digitally focused real estate firms are creating a novel environment of competition with established industry players.

Dialogue social européen : 30 ans d’expérience et de progrès, quel avenir?

dialogue_socialDans ce moment de crise qui n’en finit pas et dans lequel l’Europe sociale semble cruellement manquer, la question de la place et le rôle des acteurs sociaux se pose avec acuité tant au niveau national qu’au niveau européen.Si les relations professionnelles nationales se sont construites depuis plus de 100 ans de manière singulière dans chacun de nos pays, dans des contextes historiques, au travers des luttes et sous des formes différentes, le dialogue social européen lui, a vu le jour il y a juste trente ans, de manière volontaire, avec l’ambition d’être partie prenante de la construction européenne. À l’occasion du 30ème anniversaire des réunions de Val Duchesse, l’Institut Jacques Delors publie ce Policy paper de Jean Lapeyre qui présente la naissance (partie 1), l’évolution (partie 2) et les perspectives d’avenir du dialogue social européen (partie 3).Les six premières années du dialogue social européen ont permis d’établir les bases d’un espace contractuel et d’un engagement des partenaires sociaux dans la gouvernance de l’UE. Les quatorze années suivantes ont vu la conclusion des premiers accords européens interprofessionnels et sectoriels et la diversification du dialogue social au niveau des entreprises exerçant dans l’espace européen. Ces dix dernières années ont été plus difficiles et le dialogue social européen semble marquer le pas sous le coup d’un élargissement qui doit être digéré, d’une crise qui n’en finit pas, d’un affaiblissement de la négociation collective ou encore d’une Commission européenne affaiblie et réticente – sous la pression des États membres – à toute initiative sociale. Faut-il désespérer ou au contraire agir pour une relance du dialogue social et de la qualité de ses résultats ? Des pistes existent, qui concernent en premier lieu les partenaires sociaux mais aussi la Commission européenne. Elles sont évoquées dans la dernière partie de ce Policy paper : consolidation des résultats du dialogue social ; structuration plus forte et plus autonome du dialogue social ; une “zone euro” du dialogue social ; l’articulation de l’espace européen et de l’espace mondial ; complémentarité entre dialogue social et dialogue civil.

Journalists HIV and AIDS event organised by Caritas Internationalis and UNAIDS

caritasRome 25-26 February 2014 “Ensuring 15 million people have access to high quality antiretroviral medicine and care by 2015 will be a critical milestone in reaching everyone in need,” said Dr Luiz Loures, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director Programme, UNAIDS. “But we cannot do it alone. Historically, the services provided by the faith-based community have been a critical contribution to the millions of lives saved and they must be fully involved and engaged in efforts to expand access to HIV services. They have the capacity, the networks, the expertise and the experience. They will be one of our greatest allies in reaching people most in need.”
The consultation is related to UNAIDS’ Treatment 2015 initiative to reach at least 15 million people living with HIV with antiretroviral treatment. According to UNAIDS, at the end of 2012, 9.7 million people were accessing antiretroviral therapy in resource-limited settings.
“The event recognises the extensive HIV treatment services as well as care and support programmes offered by Caritas, other Catholic Church-based organizations, and many other Christian faith traditions, particularly in areas with limited resources,” said Caritas Internationalis Secretary General Michel Roy. “We have a common goal to provide treatment to all people living with HIV who need it.

European Congress on university pastoral work

Munich (Germany), 27 – 30 January 2011. On Friday 28 January at 12.30, a press conference will take place in the venue of the meeting. Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Archbishop of Munich and Freising and Archbishop Vincent Nichols of Westminster, President of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales and President of CCEE Commission “Catechesis, School and University” will attend the press conference.
What are the future perspectives for the university in Europe? Who are the students of today? Is it possible to live a faith experience in between courses and exams? Faith and science: a dialogue with new challenges. Who are the protagonists in the Church’s pastoral service in this sphere? About sixty delegates from Europe’s Bishops’ Conferences, representing bishops, national directors for university pastoral work, university chaplains and church associations and movements working in the university world, will be trying to provide answers to these questions in the course of the CCEE Congress scheduled to take place in Munich (Germany) from 27-30 January 2011. Also participating in the meeting will be delegates from the Holy See’s Congregation for Catholic Education and the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People. The meeting will be marked by numerous opportunities for prayer. In particular, on Saturday 29 January at 1800, the Congress attendees will participate in the celebration of Mass in the chapel (Leopoldstraße 11) with the university community of Ludwig-Maximilian University, and on Sunday 30 January, at 1000, Mass in Munich Cathedral.  The working languages during the meeting (with simultaneous translation) will be: English, Italian and German.

Artparis Grand Palais

Paris 31 mars – 3 avril 2011 Grand Palais Une foire de projets à Paris L’art contemporain chinois en question, sur le stand d’Eli Klein Fine Art (New-York, Pékin) Installée à New York et, depuis peu, à Pékin, la galerie Eli Klein Fine Art participe pour la première fois à ArtParis, avec une sélection d’artistes chinois exprimant les mutations culturelles que connaît actuellement la Chine. Zhang Dali fait partie de cette génération d’artistes et d’intellectuels qui fuirent Chine peu de temps après les événements de la Place Tiananmen, en 1989. De retour en Chine après son exil, il est confronté au déni de la classe politique et fait l’expérience de la désillusion. A travers son œuvre, il pointe les bouleversements sociétaux qui font voler en éclat les communautés traditionnelles. On découvre ainsi avec « Heads » les visages moulés en résine de travailleurs migrants ayant quitté les zones rurales pour s’installer en ville, tandis que d’autres travaux récents de Zhang Dali réinterprètent l’imagerie de la propagande communiste. A leurs côtés sommeillent les « Unknown Creatures » de Shen Shaomin.
La galerie Olivier Waltman (Paris) présente « La Cage de Faraday » imaginée par Noart La galerie Olivier Waltman fait appel à l’un de ses artistes, Noart, dont elle expose le design en métal depuis cinq ans. Mais c’est au titre de ses activités de scénographe et de décorateur de plateaux de tournage (cinéma, publicité) que le galeriste pensé le faire intervenir : réaliser un stand tout en métal, en totale résonance avec le travail des autres artistes de la galerie exposés à ArtParis. Fou, extravagant, jules-vernien, hommage appuyé à l’architecture métallique du Grand-Palais, le projet de Noart s’intitule La Cage de Faraday. (Fr.) Comme lui, les photographes Jean-Pierre Attal (Fr.), Aleix Plademunt (Esp.) et les peintres Jonathan Huxley (UK) et Jorge Enrique (USA) interrogent les conditions d’un monde du tout- technologique, sur-rapide et la place qu’il réserve à l’homme. La création contemporaine russe s’expose sur le stand de la galerie Orel Art (Paris) La galerie Orel Art, qui fête ses 10 ans en 2011, poursuit sa promotion de la scène contemporaine russe. Elle présente des artistes aussi bien confirmés, tels que Dubossarsky & Vinogradov, Andrei Molodkin ou Evgeny Yufit, que de jeunes talents, comme les peintres Ivan Plusch et Valery Chtak.
