The art photo fair directed by Fabio Castelli and Lorenza Castelli returns for its sixth edition

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 25 aprile 2016

Milan The Mall – Porta Nuova, Piazza Lina Bo Bardi, 80 galleries from 12 different countries worldwide, with 230 artists, 15 specialized publishers and 20 independent artists: these are the figures of the sixth edition of MIA Photo Fair, the fair dedicated to art photography, conceived and directed by Fabio Castelli and due to be held at The Mall, at the new business district of Porta Nuova, Milan, from Thursday April 28th, inauguration day by invitation only, to Monday, May 2nd, 2016. Under the patronage of Regione Lombardia, the Metropolitan City of Milan and Comune di Milano, MIA Photo Fair is supported by its main sponsors BNL BNP Paribas Group and Lavazza and by the sponsor Eberhard & Co.
After the success of the 2015 edition (with over 22,000 visitors), MIA Photo Fair has decided to extend the period of the fair, which now welcomes visitors from Thursday until Monday. In addition to its established arrangement, characterised by the participation of galleries with their collective exhibitions and monographic projects, the fair also features Proposta MIA, in which a selection of photographers present their work individually.
MIA Photo Fair is enriched with a full programme of talks and debates on the most topical of the many subjects involving the world of photography. These include a meeting, held in collaboration with the

Community of Sant’Egidio, on the theme of the power of the image as a language for describing the phenomenon of the migration process that is changing Europe. This process is interpreted through the work of such artists and reporters as Liu Bolin, Massimo Sestini, Fabio Bucciarelli and Corrado Levi.
The sixth edition of MIA Photo Fair, with its customary focus on collecting, presents three special events moderated by Sabrina Donadel who during the weekend of the fair will meet with three collector couples who share a passion for photography: Pier Luigi and Natalina Remotti, Giovanni and Anna Rosa Cotroneo and Annamaria and Antonio Maccaferri. The talks area, where the cultural programme takes place, has been specially designed and arranged by a group of young creative talents coordinated by the Institute for Production of Wonder together with Cassina, under the guidance of creative director Patricia Urquiola.
MIA Photo Fair confirms its future-oriented vision by continuing the experience of CODICE MIA, conceived by Enrica Viganò as an original form of portfolio reviews. A selection of artists chosen by the fair itself will have the opportunity to discuss their work with a panel of Italian and foreign collectors, curators and art advisors:
Pedro Barbosa, collector – Saõ Paulo, Brazil
Peter Coeln, collector – Vienna, Austria
Elaine Goldman, collector – New York, USA
Jim Grover, collector – London, UK
Charles Jing, collector – Atlanta, USA
Annamaria and Antonio Maccaferri, collectors – Bologna, Italy
Massimo Perazzo, collector – Milan, Italy
Nissan Perez, art advisor and curator – Tel Aviv, Israel
Jeff Rosenheim, curator in charge of the photography collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art – New York, USA
Maria Sukkar, collector – London, UK
Out of all the artists participating in the debate and discussion sessions, one artist will be selected and awarded the possibility of exhibiting his/her work in the section Proposta MIA of the 2017 edition.

VW sales figures do not reflect the doom and gloom predicted

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 16 aprile 2016

Christian Stadlercomment on the news the Volkswagen Europe quarterly market share has hit a five-year low. Christian Stadler is a Professor of Strategic Management at Warwick_Business_School_Scarman_road_viewwho has researched the car industry, has made the following statement.
Professor Christian Stadler said: “While the numbers are down, it is actually a far cry from what one would have expected. Of course, that the VW brand has been hit more than others is no surprise, but, considering the furore of ‘dieselgate’ we have definitely not witnessed the demise of the Volkswagen Group that some expected.”There has been a downturn, but it is not a massive one. In fact, as past history of scandals has shown, people are often quick to move on and forget.”What I would say is the numbers do reflect a bigger concern for Volkswagen over its product mix, for example, it does not have new products in the SUV section. This is a bigger problem in China and far more worrying than ‘dieselgate’. Volkswagen has been outpaced by Toyota. Over in China it does not really have a cheap mid-range SUV that the market is after. This is a problem it has been aware of for years, but when challenged about it, things always seem to be another year away.”Volkswagen really need to get this right moving forward as this is perhaps a much bigger issue than the decline in European sales.”

Expert comment on China’s latest CPI figures

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 9 gennaio 2016

Manila_ChinatownKamel Mellahi, of Warwick Business School, Professor of Strategic Management and researches business in China said: “Concerns over disinflation will prompt further monetary easing as the CPI data strengthen the case for lower interest rates and supply side reforms.
“Higher food prices because of adverse weather conditions were the main driver behind higher CPI in December. They edged inflation up but there is no guarantee that they will continue rising in the coming months.”PPP – producer price index, which measures wholesale inflation – keeps on sliding, reflecting the protracted overcapacity, low commodity prices, and tepid domestic demand. Overcapacity in many sectors of the economy, particularly heavy industry, will continue to be a problem in 2016 and will push firms to lower prices to offload excess capacity and drive demand. There are no quick and easy solutions for the current overcapacity. The problem will have to be addressed incrementally over a period of time.”The prognosis for 2016 is mixed. The deflationary pressures are structural and are not going to go away. On the other hand, property prices are expected to keep going up, pushing inflation higher in 2016. Plus, the depreciation of the currency could push up the cost of imported goods driving inflation higher.”

New Urban Art Portraits of Political Figures at the Unit London

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 19 marzo 2015

Ryan Hewett'sLondon 24th April – 24th May 2015 The Unit London are all set to launch South African painter Ryan Hewett’s debut European Solo exhibition in April 2015. The exhibition focuses on the depiction of political figures from the past and present who have somehow shaped the world in which we live. Alongside such revered icons as Barack Obama, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi and Abraham Lincoln, Hewett also portrays such infamous persona as Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin and Osama bin Laden. It is an incredibly bold and challenging narrative that allows us to see iconic rulers in ways we have never seen them before with the date falling just before the UK elections in May, as well as an interesting counterpoint to the media interest in The Tate’s current retrospective of fellow South African Marlene Dumas, where critics have focussed upon the ephemeral nature of her work set against the stark political realities of her country. Hewett’s work holds up a different mirror and viewpoint to that same political cauldron and delivers an urban slant and vibe to the mix. (photos: Ryan Hewett’s)

US consumption: Happy Black Friday!

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 30 novembre 2014

consumer.480In recent years, US consumer spending has grown less rapidly than the historical norm. Several constraints have weighed on household income in an environment dominated by the correction of past excesses (housing market). Fiscal policy was a particularly strong brake from 2011 to 2013, both directly (tax hike) and indirectly (uncertainty). This constraint seems to have been loosened, while employment conditions are improving sharply. An acceleration in disposable income is thus foreseeable in 2015, and this should be reflected in consumption and growth figures.

Lauder: New Ukrainian government must promote equal rights

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 25 febbraio 2014

new yorkNEW YORK — The World Jewish Congress (WJC) President Ronald S. Lauder today looked forward to a democratic and peaceful future for Ukraine. “We hope and expect that all members of the new Ukrainian interim government will promote equal rights for all citizens and harmony among Ukraine’s diverse communities,” Lauder said. “We are monitoring closely the words and actions of politicians, including those from the Svoboda Party. We stress that there must be a zero tolerance toward any manifestations of anti-Semitism.”Lauder said that WJC views with concern the vandalism that happened during Sunday night at the Giymat Rosa Synagogue in Zaporizhia, 250 miles southeast of Kiev, which sustained some damage from firebombs. No one was injured. “Local authorities must catch the culprits and prosecute them to the full extent of the law,” Lauder said. “No religious community must fear in a democratic Ukraine.”
Lauder appealed to the authorities to redouble security around Jewish sites; he praised the Jewish Agency for Israel for its pledge to send funds to bolster security in Jewish areas. “Security is expensive and that money is needed urgently,” Lauder said.Noting that WJC CEO Robert Singer had recently returned from a fact-finding mission in Kiev where he had met with communal figures and with the ambassadors of the United States, the European Union, Germany and Israel, Lauder said that he was heartened that Ukrainian Jews had so many friends. “We thank the ambassadors for their continued close contact with the Jewish community and vigilance in monitoring any threats,” he said.

Phil Collins: Soy mi madre

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 24 novembre 2009

London until 18/12/2009 16 Wharf Road – N1 7RW Victoria Miro GalleryVictoria Miro Gallery hosts the European premiere of soy mi madre, the latest film by Phil Collins, in his second solo exhibition with the gallery. In soy mi madre, Collins expands on these themes by using the format of the telenovela. Commissioned in 2008 by the Aspen Art Museum as part of the Jane and Marc Nathanson Dintiguished Artist in Residency Program, in this work Collins focuses on the Latino and immigrant populations of Colorado, a sizable percentage of which hail from northwestern Mexico. In Aspen itself, this community figures mainly as a non-resident low-qualified work force, dispersed through a ring of satellite towns from which it commutes daily. At the same time alluding to and refuting the preconceived glamorous image of Aspen, Collins made a work in resonance with the cultural context of this specific population. Phil Collins: soy mi madre will be published by the Aspen Art Museum later this year. Including contributions by Carlos Monsiváis, Mexico’s leading cultural analyst, Magali Arriola, writer and curator, and an in-depth interview with the artist by Aspen Art Museum director Heidi Zuckerman-Jacobson. soy mi madre was first exhibited at the Aspen Art Museum, Aspen, Colorado in 2008 and earlier this year at Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, New York. soy mi madre will feature in The Reach of Realism at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, 1 December 2009 – 14 February 2010, and will also be presented on local TV network in Aspen and in Collins’ solo exhibition at DAAD Galerie in Berlin in February 2010. participated in group exhibitions including The Making of Art, Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt (2009), Acting Out: Social Experiments in Video, Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston (2009), Life on Mars, the 55th Carnegie International, Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh (2008), and The Cinema Effect: Illusion, Reality and Moving Image, Part II: Realisms, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington DC, (2008). He was nominated for the 2006 Turner Prize and was one of the recipients of the DAAD Scholarship in Visual Art for 2008/2009. (phil Collins)
