Impossible Foods Wins UN Global Climate Action Award in “Planetary Health” Category

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 1 ottobre 2019

Impossible Foods, of the famously delicious ImpossibleTM Burger, today was announced as a recipient of the 2019 United Nations Global Climate Action Award. The awards are given to just 15 organizations around the world, and are intended to shine a light on some of the most practical examples of what people across the globe are doing to combat climate change. The announcement of the award winners comes shortly after the UN Climate Summit in New York and Impossible Foods’ worldwide debut in grocery stores in both New York and Southern California. Creating a more sustainable food system is core to the international architecture of progress on climate change. Impossible Foods is adding a powerful tool for climate action.Dietary shifts have long been recognized as a necessary component of climate strategy yet one of the most difficult strategies for member states to implement. The Impossible Burger is made from plants, yet tastes, smells, looks, and cooks, just like ground beef from an animal–and so it is a climate tool that can be deployed at a global scale while requiring no behavior change or compromise. Each pound of Impossible Burger substituted for beef from a cow spares about 30 pounds of carbon equivalents and nearly 300 less square feet of land–land that could be used for carbon capture by trees and grasslands. The 2019 United Nations Global Climate Action Awards are part of the wider effort to mobilize action and ambition as national governments work toward implementing the goals of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals. Impossible Foods won its award in the “Planetary Health” category, which recognizes novel solutions that balance the need for human health and a healthy planet.
Impossible Foods’ mission is to transform the global food system to support the planet and growing human population. The company’s goal is to replace animals as a food production technology by 2035, and provide consumers with meat, fish, and dairy foods that are good for both people and the planet. Already, Impossible Foods has made significant progress towards its goals — as outlined in its 2019 Impact Report. The 2019 Lighthouse Activities were selected by an international Advisory Panel as part of the UN Climate Change’s Momentum for Change initiative, which is implemented with the support of The Rockefeller Foundation, and operates in partnership with the World Economic Forum, donors supporting the implementation of the UNFCCC’s Gender Action Plan and Climate Neutral Now.

Caito Foods, LLC Voluntarily Recalls Fresh Cut Melon Products Because of Possible Health Risk

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 11 giugno 2018

Caito Foods is voluntarily recalling fresh cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe and fresh-cut mixed fruit containing one of these melons, produced at the Caito Foods facility in Indianapolis, because these products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Use or consumption of products contaminated with Salmonella may result in serious illness. It can also produce serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.Reports of illnesses linked to these products are under investigation, and Caito Foods is voluntarily recalling the products out of an abundance of caution. The company has been advised by the CDC that it has linked 58 illnesses to the strain of Salmonella under investigation. Caito Foods has ceased producing and distributing these products as the company and FDA continue their investigation. The products were packaged in clear, plastic clamshell containers and distributed in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina and Ohio.Because it is possible that products shipped between April 17 and June 7, 2018 could still be on store shelves, this recall extends to both retailers and consumers. The potential that these products are contaminated with Salmonella was discovered through analyzing reports made by state departments of public health. Caito Foods has ceased producing and distributing these products as the company and FDA continue their investigation.Consumers seeking information may call 844-467-7278 Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. CT and Saturday and Sunday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT.Retailers and wholesale customers should check their inventories and shelves to confirm that none of the products are present or available for purchase by consumers or in warehouse inventories. Please contact 844-467-7278 Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. CT and Saturday and Sunday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT to arrange for disposal or return of the product. The United Nations World Food

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 1 gennaio 2014

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) said today it would scale up food distributions in conflict-wracked Central African Republic (CAR) to assist up to 1.25 million people in the next eight months as growing numbers of people go hungry.
WFP appealed for nearly US$107 million through August 2014 to assist both hundreds of thousands of displaced people and others whose food security is disrupted by violence.“We urgently need support from donors so we won’t start running out of food in January,” said WFP West Africa Regional Director Denise Brown in Bangui. “We are providing food for hungry people wherever we can in CAR. But insecurity is the biggest challenge.”“We therefore urge all parties to the conflict to ensure the safe and unhindered access of humanitarian personnel and the timely delivery of humanitarian assistance to people in need wherever they are. WFP is neutral and delivers assistance solely on the basis of need.”In spite of the volatile security situation, WFP and its partners have assisted more than 237,000 people since 5 December in CAR. In total, WFP has provided food to over 174,000 people in Bangui, 41,500 people in the northeastern city of Bossangoa and 21,500 people in Bouar.WFP will focus from January to April 2014 on providing assistance to people in immediate need by increasing food distributions, supplementary feeding to combat malnutrition among children under five and assistance to vulnerable groups. From May to August, it will also reach more people in need of food during the lean season when the last harvest runs out.The new emergency operation specifies that because of security risks, food distributions will be undertaken by teams moving swiftly from site to site and able to adjust plans. To avoid putting people in need of assistance at risk, a protection analysis will be conducted in each place. In some locations, cooked meals may be provided to help protect women and children.WFP said it and its partners were closely and continuously monitoring the unfolding crisis in CAR and would adapt the number of people it assists, for how long and where as necessary.
WFP is reaching out to local community leaders to inform people about food distributions. The organization will solicit the concerns, ideas and priorities of people, especially women and vulnerable groups, so those most in need are reached despite all the obstacles.Earlier in December, WFP launched a special operation to deploy more staff, set up local offices, obtain vital security and telecommunications equipment and support establishing cross-border humanitarian flights into CAR at a cost of US$5.3 million through June 2014.

Foods Conference held in Geneva

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 21 Mag 2009

Dartford, England.  The new options were developed to support the need for clean label (non-synthetic) pigments for use on nutraceuticals, dietary and food supplement products. Fully-formulated, aqueous film coating systems, pigmented with non-synthetic colorants, meet changing regulatory requirements and provide a solution for manufacturers mindful of escalating consumer concerns for clean label products. The new Colorcon products provide a wider color choice with improved stability. The palette includes rich colors in shades of yellow, green, peach, orange, pink, purple and grey.  This innovative approach offers food and dietary supplement makers an opportunity to capitalize on the benefits of film coating their products to enhance consumer appeal. Film coatings can additionally provide oxygen and moisture barrier protection, mask unpleasant tastes and odors, improve in-process packaging, and protect soft, friable tablets during manufacture and shipping. Manufacturers who have avoided color coating their products due to label concerns, can now meet both regulatory and consumer demands.
Colorcon is a world leader in the development, supply and technical support of fully formulated products for the pharmaceutical and dietary supplement industry. Its core businesses include film coatings, modified release technologies, functional excipients, and tablet branding services. Colorcon has 18 technical service laboratories globally and more than 1,200 employees exclusively dedicated to its customer base. For further information, visit
