OECD Learning Framework Sets a Roadmap for Education Innovation

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 9 giugno 2019

In the 1970’s, Finland had an economic crisis. The stakeholders concurred that education was the foundation to improve quality of life and build a sustainable society for all its citizens. To achieve education excellence, the Finns looked beyond academic achievement and built a new model that was equitable, accessible and flexible, giving priority to human well-being, quality of life and happiness. Today, Finland is one of the world’s leading models for quality education.Global education publisher, advocate and futurist C.M. Rubin believes the world now faces a similar crisis. Since 2015, Rubin has been a contributor to the OECD’s four-year Future of Education and Skills 2030 study and the just released Learning Compass framework. The OECD’s new framework sets out a shared vision by widespread international stakeholders for what students should learn to be ready for the future. “Our planet faces numerous challenges as identified in the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals,” says Rubin. “I believe that every global challenge we face, whether it be climate change, health and well-being, wealth inequality, gender equality, or peace and prosperity can be conquered if we are willing to pioneer new models of lifelong learning and assessment.” She adds, “Our world has changed. Smart machines have edged their way into virtually every domain. What makes us human now matters more than ever. We need to understand our complex problems and determine what kind of learning models will resolve them.”
CMRubinWorld launched in 2010 to explore what kind of education would prepare students to succeed in a rapidly changing globalized world. Its award-winning series, The Global Search for Education, is a celebrated trailblazer in the renaissance of the 21st century, and occupies a special place in the pulse of key issues facing every nation and the collective future of all children. It connects today’s top thought leaders with a diverse global audience of parents, students and educators. Its highly readable platform allows for discourse concerning our highest ideals and the sustainable solutions we must engineer to achieve them. C. M. Rubin has published hundreds of interviews and articles discussing an expansive array of topics under a singular vision: when it comes to the world of children, there is always more work to be done. Safe Harbour ruling: The Commission must act now to ensure clarity and safety for citizens and businesses

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 8 ottobre 2015

european commissionThe European Commission has failed to ensure a solid data protection framework for the transfer of EU citizens’ data to US companies. As a result citizens and businesses alike are left with an unclear legislative patchwork after today’s ruling of the European Court of Justice declaring the Commission adequacy decision invalid, says Civil Liberties Committee Chair Claude Moraes (S&D, UK), calling for immediate action from the Commission to provide clarity and proper data protection standards for data transfers to the US.Statement from Civil Liberties Committee Chair, Claude Moraes (S&D, UK), after the European Commission’s initial response to the Safe Harbour ruling:
“The Commission’s initial response to the European Court of Justice decision to invalidate the Safe Harbour agreement is disappointing as it lacks any real concrete update on what it intends to do regarding replacing the Safe Harbour framework.Despite the fact that the Commission has been in negotiations with the US on reform of the Safe Harbour for nearly two years, we have still not received any update on the negotiations or the impact that this decision will have on the discussions. Given that the European Court of Justice has invalided the Safe Harbour framework immediately, it is also regrettable that the Commission has not specified a timeframe for the conclusion of these discussions. It is unfortunate that the Commission did not follow up on the European Parliament’s repeated calls to suspend the Safe Harbour framework as this would have allowed it to implement transitional measures over a period of time. Instead, as the European Court of Justice ruling takes effect immediately, the issue has become urgent resulting in the need for the Commission to provide immediate clarity to companies who are uncertain as to how they can continue to transfer EU citizens’ data to the US as well as to provide guidelines to the national data protection authorities.Of course, the flow of EU citizens’ data will continue and there are other alternatives that business can use, including standard contractual clauses or binding corporate rules. This shows that the judgement will not result in a dramatic stop to data flows across the Atlantic with serious economic impact – instead it shows that it is possible to continue with data transfers and at the same time implement a framework that will protect EU citizens’ data when being transferred to the US and ensure they have equivalent safeguards to those that exist in the EU.Both the message from the European Parliament and from the European Court of Justice have been clear: the Safe Harbour framework does not protect European citizens private data when being transferred to the US as the EU Charter and EU law require. Now the responsibility to remedy this solution is with the Commission. It must act without delay to fill this void”.

Global businesses

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 23 ottobre 2009

Brussels. Announced at the annual EFQM Forum business leaders event, the Excellence Model has recently been reviewed and revised to align the framework with current business needs and trends.  High performing organisations have management frameworks which define what they do and explain why they do it.  The EFQM Excellence Model is the most widely used organisational framework in Europe and extends to global markets, reaching more than 30,000 organisations world-wide.  Used as a tool for assessment, it delivers a picture of how well the organisation compares to similar or very different kinds of organisation.  Used as a management model, it can be used to define aspirations for the organisation’s capability and performance. In the revised Model, the emerging trends and topics that have more emphasis are ‘Creativity and Innovation’, ‘Sustainability’, ‘Corporate Governance’, ‘Organisational Agility’, ‘Risk Management’, ‘Promoting products & services’, and ‘Supplier Management’.  Sustainability is now firmly on the agenda of management boards around the world.  EFQM supports organisations in defining what sustainability means, providing approaches for its implementation and ensuring consistency between apparently conflicting responsibilities toward shareholders, employees and society.   Starting from the strengths of the existing EFQM Model: the eight fundamental concepts, its widely recognised nine-box structure, and the acclaimed RADAR scoring matrix, the review team was given the brief to make updates that would incorporate these trends while increasing its action orientation and accessibility to all managers from a broad selection of organisations, both public and private.  Wording has been simplified and made more relevant to the emerging challenges of today.Beginning with the ‘Fundamental Concepts’, which are a core set of principles adopted by EFQM member organisations, levels of performance have been defined against which organisations can chart their aspirations.
