Details of FIRST® POWER UPSM 2018 Robotics Game Revealed

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 8 gennaio 2018

FIRST Robotics CompetitionInventor and FIRST® Founder Dean Kamen launched the 2018 FIRST® Robotics Competition season today with the Kickoff of a new robotics game called FIRST® POWER UPSM before a crowd of more than 1,000 people, including Governor Chris Sununu and Senator Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, New Hampshire, hometown of FIRST Headquarters. More than 91,000 high-school students on 3,647 teams at 137 venues around the globe joined the 2018 Kickoff via Twitch Live Broadcast.“It’s not about the robots – it’s never been about the robots,” said Dean Kamen, president of DEKA Research & Development. “We are not using kids to build robots. We are using robots to build kids.”FIRST POWER UP finds FIRST Robotics Competition teams trapped in an 8-bit video game. Each three-team alliance has three ways to help defeat the boss: Tipping the scale or the alliance’s switch in their favor to earn points, exchanging power cubes for power ups (force, boost, and levitate) to gain a temporary advantage during the match, and climbing the scale tower to face the boss. The alliance with the highest score at the end of the match, which includes autonomous and teleoperated periods, defeats the boss and wins the game.At today’s Kickoff, teams were shown the FIRST POWER UP game field and challenge details for the first time, and received the Kickoff Kit from the Kit of Parts, which is made up of motors, batteries, control system components, construction materials, and a mix of additional automation components – with limited instructions.Working with adult mentors, students have six weeks to design, build, program, and test their robots to meet the season’s engineering challenge. Once these young inventors build a robot, their teams will participate in one or more of the global 158 Regional and District events that measure the effectiveness of each robot, the power of collaboration, and the determination of students.By participating in FIRST, students gain confidence to explore the innovation process while learning valuable science, engineering, technology, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. FIRST Robotics Competition participants are eligible to apply for more than $50 million in FIRST Scholarships from leading colleges and universities. Students also learn and apply the FIRST ethos of Gracious Professionalism®.“Just as you apply Gracious Professionalism to this competition, we need you to apply it in your goals as citizens,” Senator Hassan told the students in New Hampshire. “We need gracious citizens to move forward because what FIRST teaches us more than anything else is that life and discovery is not a zero-sum game.”Governor Sununu celebrated the willingness of FIRST participants to innovate. “The robots are great, the competition is great, but what FIRST is all about is the kids that step up, that are open to something they haven’t explored before, that can try something they haven’t tried before,” he said. The 2018 FIRST Robotics Competition Kickoff event is an opportunity for teams from all over the world to come together as a community to share in the excitement of seeing the new game unveiled. Teams at local Kickoffs in Australia, Canada, China, Dominican Republic, Israel, Mexico, Turkey, and the United States watched the proceedings via live broadcast. (photo: FIRST Robotics Competition)

Digital contractors are a source for staying ahead in the game

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 17 novembre 2016

londonLondon. The gig economy in the UK has grown by around 14 per cent in the past few months alone. It is a flexible working model where freelancers are hired to adapt to changing business requirements. According to the latest ONS Labour Market figures, the number of self-employed people between July and September this year increased by 213,000 to 4.79 million, equating to 15.1 per cent of all people in work.
Digital is becoming the backbone of many businesses and talent is a key component to executing digital strategies. Investment in contractors has increased, as the IT skills gap has widened. Digital trends such as Mobile technologies, Big Data, IoT, Cloud Computing and Cyber Security are shaping the workforce of a business. Digital disruption is encouraging business leaders to seek digital contractors who have the deep domain knowledge and skills set to bring new products and services to market faster.Businesses are increasingly turning to digital as a way to find new revenue streams and drive business growth. Insufficient investment within the workforce holds back innovation and development. Technology is constantly evolving and businesses need a team who are always at the forefront of the latest innovation.CEO and Founder of Gibbs S3, Farida Gibbs comments: “In order to digitally transform, businesses need to create a culture of innovation which can be delivered by building agile teams to manage digital projects. By outsourcing digital projects you have access to the best skills and experience on the market, allowing you to stay ahead of the curve.”Farida continues: “Acquisition of talent has become more fluid and flexible. Businesses have a dynamic workforce which can scale up and down according to different business requirements. Digital has changed the business model and we are seeing that technology is not becoming one aspect of business, but how business is being integrated into technology. Technology is encompassing all aspects of a company and is a driver of success. Businesses need to partner up with the right specialists to leverage the right expertise on an ad-hoc basis – when they want, where they want and how they want.”
Gibbs S3, also known as GS3, is a privately held, certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) and Ethnic Minority Controlled Business (EMB) founded in 2005 by CEO Farida Gibbs. Headquartered in Surrey and with offices in London, Manchester and Cheshire, Gibbs S3 has pioneered a hybrid approach to workforce solutions that includes IT staff, business change and project solutions. Through its partnership with leading American firm S3 in 2009, Gibbs S3 now has global reach and can offer services across the world. The company is headquartered in the UK and has operations in North America and Eastern Europe. It most recently established an offshore/onshore development centre in Lithuania. The UK operations are a major driver in the company’s global growth, with turnover increasing by 38 per cent in 2014, far outstripping the market growth of 6-7 per cent estimated by industry analysts SIA. UK revenue is due to reach £46m in 2015, with a global revenue of £180m. Gibbs S3 combines the agility of a start up with world-leading resources, and the US operations were recently ranked as the 17th largest staffing form in the country by SIA.Gibbs S3 is a tier 1 supplier to FTSE100 clients and its globally aligned model allows it to meet the ever growing requirements and needs of its worldwide customer base, with global brands across sectors including oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods and financial services. Its suite of services includes RPO (Recruitment Process Outsourcing), SOW (Statement of Work), payroll services, project solutions and MSP (Managed Service Provisions), and it is a contingent labour master supplier. The company prides itself on innovation and quality at speed, with an emphasis on the importance of customer care.
Gibbs S3 is the only corporate-level firm to be certified and Ethnic Minority Controlled Business (EMB) by MDSUK and has also been certified as a Woman-Owned Business (WBE) by WEConnect. The firm has also received ISO 27001 and 14001 certifications for information security management and environmental management.

Stadler provides fireworks for 4th of July

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 7 luglio 2014

indipendence daysAmerican Kevin Stadler celebrated Independence Day by claiming a three shot halfway lead in the Alstom Open de France, despite a shaky finish to his second round. Frenchman Victor Riu took second spot on his own after a fine round of 67, while nine other local players made the cut, including Victor Dubuisson who carded a 68, the only bogey-free round of the day. Stadler carded a flawless opening 64 at Le Golf National and did not drop his first shot of the tournament until his 32nd hole at the 2018 Ryder Cup venue. But after bouncing back in style with birdies on the next two holes, the World Number 62 shanked his approach to the par five ninth – his final hole – to run up a double bogey seven. “I just tried to get a little too much out of it,” admitted Stadler, who had to settle for a round of 68. “I didn’t have the best of lies and had to hit the shot perfectly. I got a little too steep on it and it came off the hosel and into the deep stuff. It was not exactly how I planned to finish the day but overall it was another good day so it’s all good. I putted brilliantly the first couple of days. I got a little sloppy on my final nine today but other than that struck the ball very well as well, had a lot of chances and rolled in a lot of nice putts.” Stadler won his maiden US PGA Tour title in February and was half of the first father-son pairing to play in the same Masters Tournament in April with his father Craig, the 1982 champion. The 34 year old finished joint eighth at Augusta National but that has been his only top-ten since winning in Phoenix and he added: “It’s been a little rotten the last couple of months but it’s starting to show some signs of form again and I’ve hit plenty of good shots the last couple of days. “Hopefully I can do more of the same at the weekend, the putter keeps co-operating and I am looking forward to the last couple of days.” Stadler’s nearest challenger is Parisian Victor Riu, whose only bogey in a round of 67 came on the 18th after finding a greenside bunker, with 2012 winner Marcel Siem two shots further back on five under after a 72. Riu has missed the cut in five of his last six events but some hard work with his coach and a touch of local knowledge paid off for the 29 year old. “I’m attached to (the nearby) St-Nom-La-Bretèche but most of time I come here because the course is so good,” Riu said. “I used to play here most of the time I’m in Paris. I didn’t feel very good in my game but my coach arrived here on Monday. We are training very hard and I feel much, much better.” Defending champion Graeme McDowell added a 69 to his opening 70 to finish three under par – good enough for a share of fourth place with six other players – and was quick to acknowledge Stadler’s superb performance. “I said to (US Open Champion) Martin Kaymer it was nearly as good as his at Pinehurst, but not quite,” said McDowell, whose winning total 12 months ago was nine under. “It’s a great display of golf. It’s Kevin’s type of golf course and if he keeps playing like that he’s going to be tough to catch, but I feel like three under is not a bad return for the last two days and if I can go low tomorrow and get myself back into it, who knows?” Playing partner Kaymer, who won his second major title by eight shots last month, was a shot behind McDowell on two under after carding a 68 containing six birdies and three bogeys.Aside from Riu, the other nine Frenchmen to make the cut are Alexander Levy, Thomas Linard, Gary Stal, David Bobrowski, Dubuisson, Grégory Bourdy, amateur Julien Brun, Alexandre Kaleka and Julien Quesne.

Game Change Rio: Ruin the World or Save our Planet?

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 16 maggio 2012

Washington D.C., Zurich, and Frankfurt, Germany,(PRNewswire) A game with a difference is being launched this week: Players can ruin the world or save our planet by opting for choices based on real-world data that has not been publicly available so far. The Facebook game aims to mobilise people to demand action rather than just talk from the Rio+20 summit in June. Game Change Rio offers a great way to engage with the complexities facing our planet today. “Once more of us begin to understand the issues involved, we have a better chance of changing the game,” said Hans Herren, winner of the World Food Prize in 1995, and one of the initiators of the game. Some 20 years ago, the Earth Summit, the United Nations Conference held in Rio de Janeiro, sounded the alarm on the future of our planet. Very little has happened since and Rio+20 was called to address global inertia and make change happen after all. But this follow-up summit is up against many vested interests and only with strong public pressure, is there hope for a game change.
Game Change Rio gives access to real-world data that so far has only been available to experts and policy makers. Based on the Millennium Institute’s Green Economy Model, which was commissioned by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the game includes all relevant sectors of the world’s economy and the natural resources available. All of these elements are linked and effects of policies are seen in their full complexity. The model has over 5,000 indicators, and with the 125 policy cards developed, the game has over 100 million possible outcomes.Game Change Rio, the idea of Biovision – Foundation for ecological Development, CodeSustainable and the Millennium Institute, aims to raise awareness for the issues that need to be addressed if future generations are to enjoy life on this planet and goes on to propose solutions to the problems we are facing. To play the game, for further information, interview opportunities and pictures, please go to http://www.gamechangerio.org/media.
