New Parking Technology Company, EnSight Technologies, Looks To Revolutionize Parking Guidance

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 23 maggio 2019

A new parking technology company is setting out to shake up the parking industry by revolutionizing parking guidance. Chris Scheppman, president of Access Professional Systems, one of Southern California’s largest and most successful parking technology providers, today announced the launch of EnSight Technologies, a new parking guidance technology company. EnSight Technology’s scalable, intelligent camera-based solution is less costly and requires less infrastructure than traditional parking guidance systems.
Rather than mounting parking guidance sensors over individual spaces, EnSight Technologies’ solution relies on intelligent cameras mounted in strategic locations, allowing systems to start simple with total garage occupancy, or scale up with level occupancy, specialty parking, and aisle counts. Data collected by the cameras is transmitted to EnSight’s software, which constantly analyzes car counts to determine how many spaces are available on each floor and communicates the data to dynamic signage located at facility entrances, entrance to each floor, or intermediate wayfinding signage. Because the system utilizes open API software it can easily be integrated with other parking technologies into a powerful parking management suite.EnSight Technologies has hit the ground running. In addition to already completing its first installation at Manhattan Village in Manhattan Beach, California, EnSight Technologies is in the midst of a go-live at One Paseo, a mixed use complex in San Diego with residential space, shopping, and dining. Beyond this the company also has several additional projects under contract.

FRA presents guidance from across the EU on combating hate crime

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 30 aprile 2016

We are seeing hate crime against religious minorities and migrants around the EU on a daily basis. In response, the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) is today publishing a compendium of good practices from across the EU on how to combat hate crime. This is the culmination of work by the Working Party on combating hate crime, to be presented today at a meeting of the Working Party in cooperation with the Dutch Presidency of the Council of the EU. “Hate crimes harm not only the victim but also other people from the same group, and undermine social cohesion, which Europe can ill afford particularly at present,’’ said FRA Director Michael O’Flaherty. “In order to combat hate crime effectively, we need to pool our resources and look at what is already working. There are plenty of good practices around the EU – we should make the most of them.” “By organising this meeting in Amsterdam, the Netherlands EU Presidency offers a platform to exchange information and learn from each other’s experiences. On helping victims to take the difficult first step and report hate crimes. On how to make the best use of our law enforcement capacity. And on grasping the full significance of the problem, by working on better statistics,” Dutch Security and Justice Minister Ard van der Steur said. “We should not let geographical boundaries get in the way of success.”
“Hate crime is an affront to the EU’s core values. We are seeing fundamental rights breached across the EU every day, as people are attacked for what they look like, what they believe, and who they are,” said EU Justice Commissioner Vera Jourova. “In order to combat hate crime effectively and help victims, we need better quality data. FRA’s Working Party on Improving Reporting and Recording of Hate Crime has been an important move in this direction.”“The Commission’s newly formed High Level Group on Racism, Xenophobia and other forms of intolerance will bring together Member States, FRA, civil society and other international organisations to pull together different expertise and develop synergies to deliver, together, concrete results for society at large. The FRA work on data collection and its support of Member States in improving recording of hate crime needs to be operationalised and will be of central importance in this renewed context.”The online compendium contains measures that EU countries are using to combat hate crime, with details on their implementation and evaluation. Some 30 practices are being launched today, but these are just a beginning, as the compendium is a living document that will be revised and added to in the coming months. It is aimed at policy makers and law enforcement officers, who are encouraged to review and adapt practices from other countries for their own national context. The compendium emphasises the Fundamental Rights Agency’s growing focus on practitioners as a vital element in countering hate crime. In this context, FRA is also publishing a new report based on interviews with 263 experts from law enforcement, criminal justice, and civil society organisations. While listing a number of promising developments across the EU, the report chiefly highlights the difficulties of recording hate crime, as well as the risk that police officers may share the discriminatory attitudes of offenders, the probability of discrimination being overlooked in court proceedings, and the overall challenges faced in living up to and enforcing the ideal of a diverse society based on respect for human dignity.
Today, the majority of hate crimes – whether against Roma, LGBT people or members of Muslim or Jewish communities – remain unreported, unprosecuted and therefore invisible, often leaving victims without redress for their suffering. The objective of FRA’s work is to assist EU Member States in encouraging and supporting victims to report their experiences on the one hand and to improve the performance of the police and the judiciary in tackling hate crime on the other, thus helping to ensure access to justice for all victims.

“Doctrine” for Peace operations

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 10 ottobre 2009

(Washington, D.C.) the U.S. Institute of Peace and the U.S. Army’s Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute unveiled the first strategic “doctrine” ever produced for civilian actors involved in peace operations. Strategic guidance for civilian planners and practitioners engaged in these missions is long overdue. While the military for decades has been equipped with doctrine that guides its decisions and actions, civilian actors still operate today without any unifying framework or principles of action. The “Guiding Principles” seeks to fill this gap by introducing: 1) a comprehensive set of shared principles and 2) a shared strategic framework. Both rise directly from the enormous wealth of knowledge and experience that has accrued across the global peacebuilding community over the last two decades. The development of the manual involved intensive vetting and consultation sessions with NATO planners, British stabilizers, U.N. peacebuilders and other key partners. It also involved a thorough review of hundreds of doctrinal documents produced by the very institutions that have toiled in these difficult environments. One year ago today, the U.S. Army rolled out its unprecedented “Field Manual 3-07: Stability Operations,” which established the U.S. military’s support role in these missions. The “Guiding Principles” manual released today is a “companion” publication, designed to support the civilian side of the U.S. interagency—those entrusted to lead these challenging missions. The “Guiding Principles” manual offers a critical tool for educating and training the thousands of new members in the Active, Standby and Reserve components of the U.S. government’s Civilian Response Corps. It can also assist all levels of individuals involved in any aspect of an S&R mission, be it decision-making, assessment, planning, training & education, implementation or metrics.
