Currently we operate to four destinations- Dammam, Jeddah, Riyadh and Medina. The launch of services to these new destinations further demonstrates this commitment by connecting people from far corners of the kingdom to travel across the world through Gulf Air.”  Gulf Air Chief Commercial Officer Mr. Karim Makhlouf added, “Saudi Arabia has always been, and will be, an important market for us as the announcement of these three new destinations reiterate. We are proud of the fact that we are the largest international carrier into Saudi Arabia in terms of connecting more destinations thus expanding the commercial, tourism and religious travel opportunities between the two countries and beyond.   He added, “As the Middle East’s largest network carrier, we are well positioned to connect all these seven cities to the vast MENA, Far East and Indian subcontinent markets and vice versa. With nearly 700 flights per week within the region, our Saudi customers will be able to find a flight to their destination in the shortest possible connecting time via our efficient hub Bahrain.”  “Just like the other recently launched routes that have been well-embraced by our customers, I am confident these three routes will also receive our customers’ support.” concluded Mr. Makhlouf. Gulf Air has announced special inaugural promotional fares to these three cities starting at BD 70 plus taxes that can be booked on gulfair.com, Gulf Air sales offices in Bahrain and KSA and through its Worldwide Contact Centre on 17335777.  The airline has also announced a triple bonus miles to its Falconflyer members travelling to these cities applicable from the date of travel for three months.

Widest Ever Price Gulf Between the North and South

London. The Rightmove House Price Index for October 2011 is released today and reveals that the average asking price for a property in the UK increased by 2.8%. The average asking price for a UK property now stands at £239,672. However this figure masks a two-tier market in which the price gap between the north of the country and the south has never been wider. Asking prices in the south increased by 4.7% over the past month but fell 0.7% in the north. Average property prices in the south (£336,743) are now more than double those in the north (£164,347). Rightmove director Miles Shipside comments: “While those in the affluent south may have cause to celebrate their prices being well up on this time last year, prices in the north continue to go backwards, leaving the widest price gap ever. For the average asking price of a property in the south you could now buy two average properties in the north and still have enough change left to buy new carpets and curtains.” Compared to the beginning of the credit crunch four years ago, prices of new properties for sale have risen by 5.4% in the south but fallen by 9.6% in the north. In the last year, sellers coming to the market in the north have on average reduced their asking prices by 2.6%, while those in the south have felt able to put them up by 3.9%. Price decreases usually result when negative sentiment, influenced by uncertainty around employment and tightening of finances, rises. Of the seven UK regions with the highest unemployment levels six are in the north, so employment concerns, especially in the public sector, will be exerting downwards pressure on prices and activity in many northern areas. This will be exacerbated by lenders favouring buyers with higher deposits, where the less affluent north also fares poorly. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/house-prices.html

Nato: Japan cooperation in Gulf of Aden

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 17 agosto 2010

London – The Nato warship Hnlms De Zeven Provincïen, working in conjunction with a Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) helicopter disrupted a single skiff pirate attack on MV Anangal Innovation this morning.  Mv Anangal Innovation, a Greek-flagged ship, reported being approached by a small skiff while transiting eastbound in the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor (IRTC) in the Gulf of Aden.  Commodore Christian Rune, Royal Danish Navy, Commander, Task Force 508, stated: “The helo and ship crews from Jmsdf Murasame and Hnlms De Zeven Provincïen responded magnificently in disrupting another piracy attack in the IRTC.  The cooperation between Japanese Maritime Self Defence Forces and Nato is proof of the commitment by the international community to establish a secure maritime environment in the Horn of Africa region”.The helicopter from Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) ship Murasame quickly responded to the call from the merchant ship.  As the JMSDF helicopter approached the skiff, the suspected pirates broke off the attack and the crew of the helicopter observed the suspected pirates throwing their weapons and other pirate related paraphernalia overboard.
NATO warship Hnlms De Zeven Provincïen was dispatched by Commander, Task Force 508 to intercept skiff.  After relieving the JMSDF helicopter following the skiff, a helicopter from the Hnlms De Zeven Provincïen unsuccessfully attempted to stop the skiff.  The skiff refused to stop even after warning shots were fired from the helicopter.  The skiff was finally stopped after warning shots were fired from De Zeven Provincïen upon arriving on scene.  A team from DE ZEVEN PROVINCÏEN boarded the skiff revealing that the suspected pirates had thrown, not only their weapons, but also ladders and other pirating materials overboard.
NATO has contributed to the international counter piracy effort off the Horn of Africa since December 2008.  The mission has expanded from escorting UN and World Food Programme Shipping under Operation Allied Provider and protecting merchant traffic in the Gulf of Aden under Operation Allied Protector.  In addition to these activities and as part of the latest mission, Operation Ocean Shield, NATO is working with other international bodies to help develop capacity of countries in the region to tackle piracy on their own.
NATO has recently announced its continuing commitment to counter-piracy by extending Operation Ocean Shield to December 2012.

Mv Suez pirated in the Gulf of Aden

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 4 agosto 2010

At approximately 0415 GMT, the container ship MV Suez reported that they were under attack by one white skiff (small boat) and shots had been fired at the motor vessel to force it to stop.  The ship was reportedly employing Best Management Practices, having barbed wire in place and fire hoses ready.  Two NATO warships, HNLMS De Zeven Provinciën and USS Cole, from the NATO counter piracy task force undertaking Operation OCEAN SHIELD, and a Singaporean warship the RSS Endurance from the CMF taskforce were within forty miles of MV Suez at the time of the attack. Despite reacting immediately and having a helicopter on the scene within 10 minutes, naval forces were unable to prevent the attack as the pirates had been able to board the ship within 5 minutes.  This incident highlights that the IRTC is still an area where piracy occurs and that the presence of warships and the employment of Best Management Practices are not guarantees of immunity.
NATO Maritime Command Northwood’s Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Hank Ort commented that, “It is imperative that vessels continue to employ anti-piracy measures, maintain an effective lookout and react robustly, in order to resist pirate attacks for long enough to allow naval forces to reach the scene and intervene before the pirates are onboard.”  MV Suez, a Panamanian-flagged ship with a crew of 24, was travelling eastbound though the Gulf of Aden towards the Suez Canal.

Nato Remains Vigilant in Gulf of Aden

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 25 marzo 2010

London: Today marks the first anniversary of NATO ships in the Gulf of Aden to fight piracy. Five NATO ships arrived in the Gulf of Aden on 24th March 2009 as part of NATO’s counter piracy mission, Operation Allied Protector. Their aim was to disrupt and deter the piracy that was rife in the Gulf of Aden at that time. A year later our ships are still there but with an enhanced operational aim and with notable successes achieved.
