EU Anti-Corruption Report

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 7 febbraio 2014

BruxellesReacting to the first EU Anti-Corruption Report presented today by Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmström, the Chair of the European Parliament’s Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee, Juan Fernando López Aguilar (S&D, Spain) said:”The European Commission has published today an important and timely report about the state of corruption across the EU. It proves that corruption does not just belong to some member states but, on the contrary, affects all and each one of them, including of course my own country.”It is disheartening to confirm that political corruption is amidst the most serious reasons of concern for EU citizens. Talking about my own country (Spain) as a minister of Justice I contributed to establish the Anticorruption Prosecutor Office, it is just too bad that this is being misused to protect and defend corruption suspects instead of using it as a tool to fight corruption.”In a time of appalling economic and financial crisis recovering for the legal economy the money deviated by defrauders is of utmost importance; that funds are very much needed to foster growth and jobs”.

In June 2007, the European Parliament asked the EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) to develop a comparative report on homophobia and sexual orientation discrimination in the EU Member States, to assist the European Parliament’s LIBE committee in its deliberations concerning the need for a Directive covering all grounds of discrimination, as proposed by the European Commission last July. The vote on this directive will take place in Parliament on Thursday (Buitenweg report).
