U.S.A.: This election is more important than 2008 and 2012

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 5 ottobre 2016

trumpNow, that may sound incredible — after all, I’m the guy who had the honor of winning those races. And we’ve been able to accomplish amazing, important things for the people of this country because of our victories. But as much as I may have disagreed with the men I ran against four and eight years ago, I didn’t question whether they were fundamentally capable of serving as president. I didn’t have to worry that our very democracy would be endangered if they won. This year is different. Donald Trump is unfit to handle the demands of the presidency. His election wouldn’t just mean four years of turning back the clock on all our progress — it could very well mean lasting damage to the nation we love. We have to do everything we can to stop him. It’s never been more important. Right now, our team is falling short of where we need to be in terms of fundraising, and with 36 days to go, we can’t waste a minute.

Sale of Important Silver

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 7 Mag 2014

omarNew York – On May 21, Christie’s is pleased to present the sale of Important Silver, which includes 140 lots ranging from an Important French Gold and Enamel Mounted Rock-Crystal Cup for the Paris Exposition of 1867 by Charles Duron, to a rediscovered quart Cann by Paul Revere. The sale also includes a wide selection of silver by Buccellati and Tiffany & Co.  Among the sale’s top lots is The Good Ship Saint Andrew: An Important George V Silver-Gilt Nef by Omar Ramsden, London, 1928 (estimate: $100,000 – $150,000) – pictured above and on page 3. Omar Ramsden (1873-1939), the most successful silversmith of the English Arts & Crafts movement, created only three nefs, (extravagant table-ornaments in the shape of a ship), in his prolific 40-year career. Considered the most important of his secular commissions, these spectacular objects took their inspiration from silver ship models used in medieval times as symbols of rank at the banqueting table. Ramsden’s Workshop Books, now in the library of Goldsmiths’ Hall, indicate that the first nef was commissioned by Henry Ford in 1922, and another in 1923. The present example is the last and ‘lost’ Ramsden nef, recently discovered, was commissioned by the Anglo-Persian Oil Company (later British Petroleum) in 1928. (omar)

Refugee resettlement to Hungary

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 3 marzo 2010

March 2010 in Budapest brought together  representatives of the Hungarian government, the UN refugee agency UNHCR, civil society organisations and other EU member states. The debate was the last in a series of debates on refugee resettlement, which the Churches Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME) organised in 2009-10 with partners across the EU.  The debate, which was co-organised by the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, took place in a setting largely influenced by the recent discussions on an EU resettlement programme, in particular the respective proposals currently debated in the European Parliament.  The round table debate in particular looked at the interplay of national policies and EU cooperation in selection, reception and integration of resettled refugees. Representatives of Sweden and Belgium shared insights on national resettlement programmes and underlined the  importance which resettlement had and has in their recent and upcoming EU presidency.  Considerable attention was devoted to taking stock of the particular situation of newer EU  member states engaging in resettlement: representatives of the Czech and the Romanian government reported about the resettlement programmes, which their countries had started in the last two years. While Hungarian government representatives expressed doubt that Hungary would commit to a resettlement programme prior to the general election taking place in April,  participants underlined the usefulness of such regional exchange, which would provide for “important lessons to be learnt”

Travel and tourism

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 14 febbraio 2010

The Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of South Africa, with the support of UNWTO, will host a Tourism Ministers’ Meeting (T20) under the theme “Travel and tourism: stimuli for the global economy” from 22 to 24 February 2010 in Johannesburg. Tourism ministers meeting at the UNWTO General Assembly (October 2009, Astana, Kazakhstan) expressed a strong sentiment that tourism should be further mainstreamed in global economic decision making, with a focus on the sector’s efforts to build resilience, stimulate growth and development and support the transformation to the Green Economy. Travel and tourism can make a valuable contribution to the economic recovery, and can be an important pillar of the global efforts to unlock enhanced economic growth, infrastructure development, trade promotion, poverty eradication and particularly job creation. In addition to ministers responsible for tourism and the UNWTO Secretary-General, the meeting will be attended by high-level representatives and experts from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Social and Economic Commission for Asia, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the African Union, and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).

Who is Brussels?

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 3 giugno 2009

When reporting about decisions made at the EU level, the media in EU Member States often write that “Brussels has decided…” etc. without providing any information about who has actually taken the decision. The European Parliament and the European Council – which consists of ministers from the national government of each Member State – are ultimately elected by European citizens, and are supported by other institutions such as the European Commission and the Committee of the Regions. That is why the upcoming European Parliament elections on 4-7 June are so important, because they give Europe’s citizens the opportunity to decide whom they want to represent them in Brussels. With this in mind, the ALDE Group in the Committee of the Regions has recently launched a communication campaign called “Who is Brussels?”, in order to illustrate who is behind the decision-making process. The ALDE group has made available a series of short video clips featuring many of its Committee of the Regions’ members, answering the question “Who is Brussels?”
The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) is the third largest political force in Europe, with more than 100 full and alternate members in the EU Committee of the Regions and 100 members in the European Parliament. It also exists in the Council of Europe and in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. The ALDE-CoR website is
