Attacchi alle minoranze in India

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 17 aprile 2019

India Solar Rooftop Market Outlook and Impact Analysis of SRISTI Scheme till 2022

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 6 aprile 2019

The “Solar Rooftop Market Outlook in India and Impact Analysis of SRISTI Scheme till 2022” report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com’s offering.Examining state wise opportunities for grid-connected solar rooftop applications and market sizing for discoms, OEMs, EPC contractors, project developers into residential, industrial, commercial and government segments. The government of India is projected to make an investment by giving subsidies to the amount of USD 3.3 Billion for scaling up the solar rooftop installations in the country under Sustainable Rooftop Implementation for Solar Transfiguration of India (Sristi) Scheme. The economics of solar power has improved in India. It’s a far more cost-competitive source of electricity generation than it was a decade back or more. The sharp decline witnessed in the module and installation cost of the solar photovoltaic systems in the country and all across the globe has been a significant reason for such a development, and have also pulled up the solar power capacities higher than before.Presently, India boasts a solar power installed capacity of 24 GW, which was not even 1 GW in mid-2000s. Solar’s changing economics is already influencing the business consumption and investments and given the push from the Indian government, the sector is progressing towards a multi-faceted growth. Talking about consumption, a new demand segment for solar power is picking up the trend i.e. solar rooftops.A good number of companies especially the PSUs with large physical footprints and high power costs are switching towards installing commercial-scale rooftop solar systems, often at less than the current price of buying power from a discom. Also, for the industrial belts where power requirement is massive and congestion in the transmission lines is also high, rooftop systems can be utilized to get some respite.
For instance, as per the latest developments it is to be noted that the premises of Power Grid Corporation in Madhya Pradesh shall be installing solar rooftop systems for its self-consumption and is anticipated to get the electricity at a tariff of INR 1.58/unit, which is way cheaper than what they use to pay erstwhile to the discoms. Similarly, many other government buildings in the state have decided to go ahead with solar rooftop systems with the per unit electricity cost to be INR 1.67. This has been achievable with the deployment of RESCO programme in the state. The RESCO model facilitates the beneficiary consumer to buy solar power with zero upfront investment and at a tariff much below the prevailing DISCOM rates. Likewise, the government has been coming out with various other schemes, policies and incentives for increasing capacity additions from solar rooftop systems in order to achieve the target of 40 GW by 2022.

A Boost for Medical Imaging AI in India

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 17 marzo 2019

HealthNet Global (HNG), a part of the Apollo Hospitals Group, India and Zebra Medical Vision (Zebra-Med: https://www.zebra-med.com/), one of the global leaders in AI Imaging software, Israel announced a new collaboration that will focus on validating and deploying AI based tools at scale across India. The companies shall jointly receive support from India-Israel Industrial R&D and Technological Innovation Fund (I4F) for their $4.9 Million project to co-develop and to provide clinical validation, and evidence of the efficacy of radiology Al based tools in India as per I4F norms. The final developed project will be able to assist as a primary screening method for major diseases in large scale screenings. For example, World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 3.6 million people with TB are missed by health systems every year and do not receive adequate care. This is primarily because patients with TB may present with mild or no symptoms, particularly early on. Many affected people arrive at clinics too late with advanced disease or multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB), which is difficult to treat and more likely to cause death. One of the key strategies to tackling TB is early diagnosis. Unfortunately, sputum testing is only 50% accurate and frequently misses the disease in its early stages. Both companies will focus on development of AI-based Chest X-ray interpretation tool for TB which can help address the gap.Speaking of the initiative, Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals said, “When it comes to health, the promise of AI to provide access and improve outcomes in very intriguing. There is a critical need to provide good healthcare access in remote and rural communities, and we believe this initiative will allow us the opportunity to make significant advances in this area. Apollo’s clinical and scientific depth and Zebra-Med’s expertise in AI complement each other perfectly. This project is part of our continuing endeavor to design new tools to improve healthcare access and deliver best outcomes to patients at lower cost.” In addition to leveraging clinical depth and breadth of the Apollo Hospitals network, HNG will work in close collaboration with Apollo Radiology International, a distinguished part of Apollo Hospitals, to bring in leadership, experience and technology in Radiology reporting to the project. The partnership will capitalize on the advancements already achieved by Zebra-Med in developing dozens of AI tools. The arsenal of algorithms will include deep learning algorithms for the detection of acute conditions such as brain bleeds in head CTs and Pneumothorax in chest X-ray, detection of breast cancer in mammograms, Osteoporosis in CT scans and 40 other conditions.

India: L’ascesa del nazionalismo

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 17 gennaio 2019

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 30 dicembre 2018

Instagram is the Fastest Growing Social Network Among World Leaders

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 7 dicembre 2018

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the most followed world leader on Instagram with 14.8 million followers. He is closely followed by Indonesian President Joko Widodo, with 12.2 million followers, who more than doubled his followers over the past 12 months, according to the newly released 2018 World Leaders on Instagram study by leading global communications agency BCW (Burson Cohn & Wolfe). With 10 million followers, U.S. President Donald Trump is in third position.Pope Francis is in fourth position with 5.7 million followers, just ahead of Queen Rania of Jordan, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the White House account, each with more than 4 million followers. The UK Royal Family has almost tripled its followers over the past 12 months in large part thanks to the pictures of the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle which increased the account’s followers by 570,000 on May 19, 2018.
The study analyzes the activity of the 426 Instagram accounts of heads of state and government and foreign ministers, 100 more than in the 2017 study, using aggregate data from Facebook’s CrowdTangle tool. As of October 1, 2018, the accounts have a combined total of 98.3 million followers and published 98,372 posts in the past 12 months which have garnered a total of 860.4 million interactions (comments and shares).U.S. President Donald Trump leads the rankings in terms of total interactions (comments and likes). Over the past 12 months, @realDonaldTrump has garnered more than 218 million interactions, more than three times as many as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has more followers but only 69 million interactions on his 80 photos and videos over the past year. However, considering the number of interactions (comments and likes) per post, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the most effective world leader on Instagram, with each of his 80 posts receiving, on average, 873,302 interactions. Turkey’s President Erdoğan is in second position with 413,934 interactions and Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo’s Instagram posts receive an average of 411,673 interactions per post.“This third installment of the BCW study shows Instagram has become the social media network where world leaders garner the most interactions,” said Chad Latz, Chief Innovation Officer, BCW. “What is astounding is that the average size of world leaders’ Instagram accounts is less than half the size of their Facebook pages – with five times fewer posts over the past 12 months. However, all Instagram accounts together total 860 million interactions, which is 162 million (23 percent) more than the total interactions on Facebook over the same period.” The World Leaders on Instagram study also found that 156 of the 193 United Nations member states maintain an official Instagram account, 16 more than in the 2017 study. Ninety-two heads of state, 48 heads of government and 36 foreign ministers maintain personal pages on the platform, which tend to get better engagement than institutional accounts.Instagram is not the most obvious social network to make sweeping policy statements, however Instagram Stories have become a secondary channel for digital diplomacy, where word leaders meet, greet and tag each other.

Helica torna in India

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 25 novembre 2018

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 6 ottobre 2018

UNHCR expresses its serious concern about the repatriation of Myanmar citizens from India

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 6 ottobre 2018

The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) expresses serious concern over the security of seven citizens of Myanmar following their repatriation from India this Thursday. According to the information received from the UNHCR, prior to the execution of the repatriation the seven were transferred to the State of Manipur, on the border with Myanmar, from the central prison of Silchar, in the State of Assam, where they had been detained since 2012. Became aware of the detention and provisions relating to repatriation, and on the basis of reliable reports according to which the seven men belong to the Rohingya minority, UNHCR asked the Indian authorities to grant access to the group in order to assess their needs for international protection. UNHCR regrets that it did not respond to this request and therefore could not guarantee access to a lawyer for state legal services. UNHCR continues to seek clarification from the authorities on the circumstances in which these persons were repatriated Myanmar. The United Nations Refugee Agency is concerned about the lack of access to legal advice and asylum procedures for the assessment of their application for international protection in India. Thousands of Rohingya people have fled Myanmar in recent decades. In the most recent crisis, since August 25, 2017, more than 720,000 Rohingya refugees have been accommodated in Bangladesh. The current conditions in the state of Rakhine in Myanmar do not allow a safe, dignified and sustainable return to the Rohingya stateless refugees.
Approximately 18,000 Rohingya refugees and asylum seekers registered with UNHCR in India are located in different parts of the country. UNHCR issues an identity card to registered refugees and a document to asylum seekers, thus helping to prevent arbitrary arrest, detention and deportation. UNHCR collaborates with state legal services authorities and a network of partners to provide legal assistance to those detained in India who fall under the Agency’s mandate.

AHF Cheers Victory on LGBTQ Rights in India!

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 13 settembre 2018

“Stigma and discrimination are a tremendous obstacle to healthcare access in India, particularly for men-who-have-sex-with-men and transgender people. As a physician specializing in HIV/AIDS, I know that the repeal of Section 377 will result in lives being saved because people who feel marginalized by the law will now be more empowered to seek the help they need,” said AHF India Cares Country Program Director Dr. V. Sam Prasad. “I feel proud that AHF and our partners had an opportunity to contribute our energy and efforts to this important victory. There is still much more work needed to overcome stigma, but this is a historic milestone for human rights in India.”“This is the most important victory for LGBTQ rights in many years,” said AHF President Michael Weinstein. “To have India – the largest democracy in the world – enshrine persecution in law was a terrible stain on its reputation. There is much cause for rejoicing in this decision and my sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to bringing about this momentous victory for human rights.”Currently, AHF provides antiretroviral treatment and services to 2,074 clients in India, including a large number of men-who-have-sex-with-men (MSM) and transgender people. For nearly 15 years, AHF India Cares has been at the forefront of successful advocacy efforts, which included the national adoption of a community-based rapid HIV testing model, launch of a first-ever “Condom Bank,” and participation in patent oppositions and drug pricings initiatives. To address stigma and help empower the LGBTQ community, in 2013 AHF launched Impulse India as a safe community space for MSM with a focus on sexual health and wellbeing.

Casting a spotlight on media and religion in India

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 15 luglio 2018

chandan mitraNEW DELHI — How can media coverage of religion contribute to greater understanding and foster social harmony? This question, among others, animated a dynamic forum co-hosted by India’s Baha’i community on Saturday in New Delhi. The event highlighted how, in the media, faith is too often associated only with negative expressions of religious practice, such as superstition, prejudice, oppression, and exclusion. With a rising tide of religious extremism over the past decades, religious violence has also garnered an abundance of attention in the media.Yet religion is vast and multifaceted, and its many constructive contributions to communities and to civilization itself are overlooked in popular discourse and media. This reality rings especially true in Indian society, according to Saturday’s panel of speakers, which included prominent media figures, government officials, scholars, and faith representatives.According to the Director General of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) K. G. Suresh, part of the problem is the lack of understanding about religion among media practitioners. “Journalists should understand the true nature of religion – that it contributes to love and unity, it inculcates virtues and morality,” said Mr. Suresh in his opening remarks as the chair of the forum on Saturday. “Religion should not be identified with the false godmen who exploit people and engage in criminal activities. They should focus on stories of harmony and loving co-existence between people of different religious communities and not just look for cases of conflict.” Panelists discussed some of the challenges associated with the current media model. For instance, they explored how the publication of stories is often driven by sensationalism. The pace at which news is reported often compromises the need for depth, accuracy, and nuance in a subject as complex as religion. While identifying the shortcomings of current media, the panel acknowledged the difficulty of finding a way forward. One of their main conclusions was that journalists need forums to pause and reflect on their coverage and the impact it has on perception and behavior.IIMC and the Office of Public Affairs of the Baha’is of India jointly hosted the gathering, called “Covering Religion with Sensitivity and Understanding in an Interdependent World,” held at the Institute’s campus in New Delhi.“We are trying to learn with others how the spiritual principles found in major religions can be applied to the transformation of individuals and society and for the betterment of the world. Given the great power of the media in shaping public perceptions and discourses, the Baha’i community of India and the IIMC felt there is a great need to have a conversation with media professionals about the way they cover religion,” explained Nilakshi Rajkhowa, Director of the Baha’i Office of Public Affairs in India.
At the event, print and broadcast journalists spoke frankly about what they perceive as challenges in reporting on religion, including the over-coverage of conflict and under-reporting of harmony among religious groups. Several speakers argued that in India, where religion is a strong presence in people’s lives, media’s responsibility to cover religion in a thoughtful and accurate manner takes on special importance and contributes to the way groups perceive their relationships to one another and society at large.Panelist Chandan Mitra, a Member of Parliament and the editor and managing director of The Pioneer newspaper, spoke about the need to appreciate religion’s unique influence on society. “If we are aiming for a value-based society, we cannot ignore religion. Religion gives us our sense of dharma or morality.” Reflecting on the event afterward, Mrs. Rajkhowa said, “Journalists can benefit from such spaces for deep, conscious reflection on their profession.” In the coming year, IIMC and the Baha’i community of India plan to continue the discussion on media and religion in a series of roundtable events.
