World Jewish Congress: Jerusalem as the capital of Israel

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 8 dicembre 2017

gerusalemme“President Trump has taken a critical and courageous step today in recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and reaffirming the United States’ commitment to a mutually agreed upon two-state solution. Jerusalem is the indisputable capital of Israel and the historic capital of the Jewish people. We hope that the US’ clear declaration to this effect, and its reiteration that this has long been its policy, sends a strong message to the international community of this truth.“The World Jewish Congress fully supports the US position that a peaceful solution to the longstanding conflict must be mutual, and we have affirmed this position in our organizational resolutions and advocacy on the international stage. “As President Trump so rightfully said, Jerusalem is a holy city for Jews, Christians, and Muslims, all of whom deserve to have their religious sites and historical connection respected. Israel has demonstrated its commitment to that ideal for the past 50 years.“President Trump is a true friend of the Jewish people and we deeply appreciate his call for calm. We hope that this declaration will be the beginning of a fresh political process and a move toward peace and stability in the Middle East.”The World Jewish Congress (WJC) is the international organization representing Jewish communities in 100 countries to governments, parliaments and international organizations.

Jerusalem: WJC leaders address thousands of Evangelical Christians

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 22 ottobre 2016

gerusalemmeIn Jerusalem, leaders of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) addressed a large gathering of Evangelical Christians from around the world on the occasion of Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles. In a video message screened at the Jerusalem Arena, WJC President Ronald S. Lauder thanked the 3,000-strong audience “for standing with the Jewish people, for standing with the Jewish state of Israel, and for standing up against the outrageous lies of the BDS movement.” Making reference to the recent decision by UNESCO, Ronald S. Lauder went on to say: “A long time ago, God made a promise to the Jewish people. God gave them this land. God took Moses up to the heights of the Judean Hills and showed him the land from top to bottom, North to South, East to West. How do we know this? We read it in the Bible. It’s all right there in Deuteronomy.“God showed Moses this land, and he made a promise that this land was for the Jewish people. You can argue with governments about this. You can argue with the United Nations. But who is so vain that they will argue with God?”Referring to the Holocaust, Lauder added: “Jews learned what happens when the world is silent. We learned that lesson the hard way. And we will never be silent again.”
In his keynote address to the gathering, which was organized by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, WJC CEO Robert Singer underlined that Jerusalem was “a city that is holy not just for Jews, but also for Christians and Muslims.”He went on to say: “Next June, it will be 50 years since Jerusalem was reunited during the 1967 Six-Day War. Ever since that historic event, Jews have been able to pray again at the Western Wall. Since 1967, the followers of all three Abrahamic religions have been able to pray at their holy sites. And that’s how it should be! Jerusalem should be a place that brings Jews, Christians and Muslims together.”
Singer also spoke about the ongoing conflict in Syria and Iraq and highlighted the plight of Christian and other minorities there: “Almost half a million people have been killed in Syria over the past five and a half years, and millions displaced. Entire Christian communities in Syria, in Iraq, and in other parts of the Middle East and North Africa have been wiped out. If this trend continues, the Middle East will soon have no more Christians – except for Israel.
He also pledged support for Christians. “We Jews stand with the embattled Christians, just as you stand up for Jews. We try to watch out for you just as you watch out for us. And let’s make one thing clear: An attack on a Christian, just because he is a Christian, is an attack on us, too. An attack on freedom of worship is an attack on our Western civilization, on the values we all share. It’s not acceptable, anytime, anywhere.”
For the past 35 years, Evangelical Christians from all over the world have come to Jerusalem each fall to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles, sponsored by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem.

WJC President Ronald S. Lauder calls Filipino leader’s Hitler praise ‘revolting’ and ‘unacceptable’

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 2 ottobre 2016

JERUSALEM – World Jewish Congress President Ronald S. Laudertoday condemned the statement of President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines praising Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler and saying that he would be happy to slaughter drug addicts in his country just as Hitler slaughtered the Jews. “These statements are revolting, and President Duterte must retract them and apologize,” Lauder said in Jerusalem, where he was attending the funeral of former Israeli President Shimon Peres.Ronald S. Lauder added: “We just marked the 75th anniversary of Babi Yar, the massacre of more than 33,000 Jews in Ukraine by Nazi Germany, in a mere two days. Now, the elected leader of the Philippines openly calls for the mass murder of people who are addicted to drugs.”Drug abuse is a serious issue. But what President Duterte said is not only profoundly inhumane, but it demonstrates an appalling disrespect for human life that is truly heart-breaking for the democratically elected leader of a great country,” declared Lauder.Duterte made the remarks in the city of Davao, where he previously served as mayor and implemented a tough anti-crime policy. He told reporters he had been “portrayed to be some cousin of Hitler” by his critics.”Hitler massacred three million Jews, now, there is three million drug addicts. I’d be happy to slaughter them,” Duterte said, adding: “At least Germany had Hitler. The Philippines wouldn’t.” He said he would like to “finish the problem of my country and save the next generation”.

Jerusalem. Two weeks after an American academic group voted to boycott Israel, 100 Jewish university students from around the globe will gather in Jerusalem on Monday, December 30, in order to learn the best methods to combat attempts to boycott, divest from, and sanction (BDS) Israel. The training is part of the Global Campus Initiative (GCI), a joint project of the World Jewish Congress (WJC), the European Union of Jewish Students (EUJS) and the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS).“The Global Campus Initiative was founded to give the engaged, activist students of WUJS and EUJS the tools they need to help put a stop to BDS movements on campus, which are a growing concern worldwide even, as we now see, in the United States,” said World Jewish Congress CEO Robert Singer. “Through their networking and student activism, we hope to spread the best practices of how to combat the political, economic, cultural and ideological campaign against Israel.”
The students’ training takes on new urgency in the wake of the December 16 vote to boycott Israel by the American Studies Association (ASA), a 5,000 member group of academics who teach American studies at US colleges and universities. Starting their day at the Knesset, the students will hear greetings from several Knesset members before participating in a session on “What is Delegitimization and BDS?” with Asher Fredman, a Senior Coordinator for Diaspora Affairs in Israel’s Ministry of International Relations and Strategic Affairs, and Avi Mayer, who oversees new media operations at The Jewish Agency for Israel. After gaining “A View Inside Israeli Democracy,” the students will participate in workshops on “Advocating for Israel at Your University” and “Communicating to Influence.”In the evening, the students will attend a gala dinner with a keynote speech by Robert Singer and greetings by Shai Hermesh, Chairman of WJC Israel, and Benzi Bar Lavi, a representative of the Jewish National Fund.

Israeli authorities are obstructing Christians from worship, misleading millions of pilgrim tourists and minimising tour times in Nazareth and Bethlehem, according to claims by Church leaders and local Palestinian Christians. In Forbidden Pilgrimage, a new documentary airing on Al Jazeera, Archbishop Atallah Hanna and Archimandrite Milatios Basal, leaders of the Greek Orthodox Church in Jerusalem, recount personal incidents of persecution by authorities and extremists, as well incidents with other clergy and congregation members. “Security is used as an excuse to stop worshippers entering the Church…I was prohibited from entering the Church many times although I’m a local priest.”

JERUSALEM – Christian lawmakers from 20 countries will be in Israel later this week to express their support for the Jewish state. At an event hosted by the Israel Allies Foundation, the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem and the World Jewish Congress (WJC) 25 Christian parliamentarians and Congressmen will notably discuss measures to fight a campaign against Israel spearheaded in recent months by the European Union. On Sunday, WJC President Ronald S. Lauder will address an event in Jerusalem at which 3,000 Evangelical Christians from around the world will be present. The lawmakers are also expected to endorse Israel’s efforts to defend itself against existential threats such as those posed by Iran regime and by the current unrest and chemical weapons in Syria. The Chairman’s Conference of the Israel Allies Foundation, presided by former Minister Benny Elon, will be held as part of the annual Feast of Tabernacles, the largest tourist event in Israel which every year draws more than 5,000 Christian pilgrims from over 100 countries. Lawmakers from Argentina, Bolivia, the Czech Republic, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, South Africa, Uruguay, Guatemala, the United Kingdom and the United States will participate in the gathering.
In a draft declaration expected to be adopted, the legislators call the boycott of Israeli persons and goods from the disputed territories in the West Bank and Jerusalem an act of discrimination that is harming the peace efforts. In addition, the signatories are expected to lend their support “to the government of Israel as acting within its rights and obligations to its citizens when it stands resolutely in defence of its sovereign territory and acts pre-emptively, if necessary, to ensure the protection of its citizens and the survival of its national existence.” They are also to endorse Israel’s position that the Jerusalem should remain undivided.
WJC President Ronald Lauder hailed the upcoming event in the Israeli capital as an important sign that Israel does not stand alone in the world: “This conference is ample proof that Israel has strong Christian allies in parliaments and governments around the world on which it can rely. The World Jewish Congress will continue to work on widening this important coalition and increase cooperation with our Christian friends,” he said.

Danovaro protagonista a Gerusalemme

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 19 gennaio 2011
