LG Electronics Honored For Environmental Sustainability Corporate Responsibility Leadership

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 29 ottobre 2015

LG ElectronicsENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J.3BL Media/ – Recognizing LG Electronics’ leadership in environmental sustainability, Corporate Responsibility Magazine, the leading voice of corporate responsibility, has named LG Electronics USA President and CEO William Cho as 2015 Responsible CEO of the Year. Selected by an independent judging panel of previous winners and other industry leaders, Cho was singled out for excellence in environmental impact and sustainability. CR Magazine’s judges considered a number of key metrics including the scope of the CEO’s impact on his organization and community, the extent to which the CEO drove this initiative, and the individual reputation or professional risk taken by the CEO. Under Cho’s leadership, LG Electronics has further increased its commitment to bringing to market innovative ENERGY STAR® certified products that deliver significant energy savings and lessen the impact on the world around us, while driving consumer awareness about climate change and significantly reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its U.S. operations. “We at CR applaud LG’s commitment to introducing innovative products that are developed with the environment in mind,” said Elliot H. Clark, CEO of SharedXpertise Media LLC, publisher of CR Magazine and co-founder (with the Corporate Responsibility Association) of the COMMIT!Forum, recognized worldwide as the leading event for corporate responsibility practitioners. “Mr. Cho has taken a leading role in advancing a corporate culture in which sustainability is treated as a core business principle. His efforts have been critical in reducing the company’s environmental impact while enhancing the quality of life for consumers,” Clark said. In his relatively short time as CEO of LG Electronics USA (since January 2014), Cho has made a major impact on the company and the industry. His vision drove LG’s efforts to introduce scores of innovative, energy-efficient products into the U.S. market –including the launch the first commercially available heat pump dryer in the U.S. – and securing LG’s recognition as 2015 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year. Under Cho’s leadership, the company has implemented a number of key initiatives in support of LG’s industry-leading goal of reducing GHG emissions in its U.S. operations by 50 percent by 2020. Among his other noteworthy achievements, LG has launched a new design for its New Jersey-based North American headquarters – with strong support of conservation groups for the $300 million LEED Platinum green building project. Equally significant is the CEO’s role in advancing a corporate culture in which sustainability is treated as a core business principle. In short, LG’s environmental management and product sustainability strategy focuses on energy, resources and human factors:
Improving how LG products use energy – by enhancing energy efficiency through reduced power and stand-by power consumption, and reduced CO2 emissions throughout the product lifecycle. Improving how LG uses natural resources – by reducing product weight and volume, using more recycled materials, and designing products for easier recycling.Improving the human experience – by phasing out hazardous substances and improving the home environment.“This recognition, while humbling to me personally, really reflects LG’s progress toward excellence in environmental sustainability,” Cho said. “I am honored to accept on behalf of the talented team of men and women at LG USA who share my view that we all have a shared responsibility to protect our planet.”Clark said, “In an era where the greatest pressure is a quarterly drive to deliver financial results, it is impressive to have leading CEOs like Mr. Cho striving toward corporate responsibility. Leaders like these prove that long-term success is comprised of many measures; great social and environmental practices deliver long term profitability and performance in many areas.” (photo: LG Electronics)

World’s leading travel bodies welcome focus on jobs at T20 meeting

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 3 ottobre 2015

tourism_travel_world_map_-_magicwall.caThe Global Travel Association Coalition (GTAC), representing the leading public and private bodies in Travel and Tourism, heralds the importance of this week’s meeting of the G20 Tourism Ministers (T.20) in Antalya, Turkey and its focus on employment.Travel & Tourism is a major global employer. The sector is forecasted to support over 280 million jobs worldwide during 2015, or one in eleven jobs on the planet. Over the next ten years, the sector is estimated to generate 25 million new jobs directly and support indirectly the creation of 80 million new jobs around the world. Most importantly, Travel and Tourism supports jobs across all levels of society. It employs a higher percentage of women and young people than the whole of the economy and provides employment in rural and remote areas across the globe where job opportunities would otherwise be lacking.David Scowsill, President & CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council, speaking on behalf of GTAC, said:“Our sector creates jobs at different skills levels and in areas where other employment opportunities are scarce. This is why ‘Investment in People’ is one of the four key pillars of GTAC’s Agenda for Growth and Development”.“In this regard, GTAC commends the G20 Tourism Ministers for placing jobs and employment high on the agenda. Travel and Tourism has a tremendous positive impact on people’s livelihoods, which enhances the community health, wealth and pride. With the extraordinary growth of our sector forecast for the next decade, we can contribute to promote more inclusive growth. Yet, doing so requires we address existing challenges, namely that of employing enough talent to meet the demand on all parts of the sector which GTAC represents.” “We encourage governments and private companies to play their full part in supporting the sector and implementing policies which promote proactive and careful talent management. This will help ensure that the full potential for the industry is reached, since recent research shows that without this participation the sector could employ 14 million fewer people and contribute US$610 billion less in GDP to the world economy over the next ten years, when compared to accepted growth forecasts.” “Failure to plan properly for talent requirements leads to lower growth, reduced investment, less innovation and declining competitiveness – for both countries and companies. GTAC Members are working together in sharing research and best practices when it comes to opportunities, jobs and employment. We need the right policies, programmes and partnerships in place, to ensure that the workforce of the future knows about the opportunities in our sector, and has the appropriate skills and knowledge to support future growth.”

Acticall purchases leading contact center outsourcer Sitel

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 16 luglio 2015

london-central“The fact that Sitel was acquired comes as no surprise. Rumors of its impending purchase had been circulating for months, and the fact is that it is a strongly positioned firm in terms of its global delivery footprint, a presence in multiple vertical markets and a very strong list of blue-chip clients. Sitel has also made substantial progress in developing deeper analytical CRM solutions, which enterprises are clamoring for at the moment. What will be important to see is how the acquirer, Groupe Acticall, sees Sitel fitting into its broader organization. It is particularly encouraging to see that Bert Quintana will remain Sitel’s CEO and President, thus ensuring consistency for both clients and for Sitel team members. From a broader perspective, this development highlights the ongoing M&A trend in the contact center services sector, which has been more active in the last 24 months than since the Global Financial Crisis. It is a certainty that this is unlikely to be the last acquisition in this space during 2015, as pressure will mount on competitors in this sector to shore up their own strategic positioning.”

The work of Sir Sidney Nolan

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 7 agosto 2010

London W1S 4JD 35 on September 8 Albemarle Street, Agnew’s Gallery opens its new premises with an exhibition  dedicated to the work of Sir Sidney Nolan (1917-1992), the internationally acclaimed Australian artist who was hailed by the art historian, Kenneth Clark, as one of the leading artists of the twentieth century.
Born in Melbourne of Irish stock, Nolan was largely self-taught as an artist, having worked as a tram conductor, dish washer and display designer in a hat factory before turning to painting as a career. Aged 21, he attracted the notice of the arts patrons John and Sunday Reed, whose house, near the Melbourne suburb of Heidelberg, was frequented by a group of young artists who have become known as ‘The Angry Penguins’ after a contemporary journal of that title. Nolan married in 1938 and later entered a ménage-a-trois with the Reeds. Having been conscripted into the army in 1942, he deserted a year later and had to live under an assumed name. In 1946 he began a series of paintings of the infamous outlaw and bush Ranger, Ned Kelly. The impact of the paintings, now considered icons of modern art, was to turn Nolan into the ‘enfant terrible’ of Australian art, setting him on a path to international recognition. Research Health Impacts of Cell Phones

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 2 luglio 2010

We are so delighted to learn that Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) has announced his intent to introduce a bill calling for a new national research program on cell phones and health. He is also calling for an update of decades old safety guidelines, which use the physics measure called the SAR value, and for radiation warning labels on cell phones, invoking a consumers ‘right-to-know’.Two weeks ago, San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors affirmed citizens ‘right-to-know’ in passing an ordinance 10-1 requiring SAR values and safety education be available at the point of sale. Immediately following, the CTIA (cell phone industry association) pulled its $80 mm conference from San Francisco in retaliation. It has been reported that in the months leading up to the San Francisco vote, not only was the city of San Francisco threatened with this blow, but they were also told the CTIA had been in discussions with Apple (AAPL), Cisco (CSCO), Oracle (ORCL) and others, and could expect to be further penalized in unspecified ways.
