european parliamentBruxelles. The inaugural meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on the EU police agency Europol was opened at the European Parliament in Brussels on Monday afternoon. The Scrutiny group gathers national MPs from all member states and MEPs in order to discuss and monitor Europol’s activities. Stronger democratic scrutiny was a key objective for the European Parliament in the negotiations with EU Ministers on the Europol regulation adopted in May 2016.The scrutiny group is a result of these new rules in order to “politically monitor Europol’s activities in fulfilling its mission”, with particular attention to respect of fundamental rights and personal freedoms. Civil Liberties Committee Chair Claude Moraes who chaired the opening (S&D, UK) said:”Today’s first meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group of Europol marks a very important step towards strengthening the democratic governance of the European Union. This Group, which brings together members from the European Parliament and national parliaments, will have an essential role in monitoring the activities of Europol, which is one of the most successful policing and security organisations anywhere in the world. Our task will be vital to ensure that all of the agencies’ activities are fully in line with fundamental rights and freedoms.”
Parliament’s lead MEP on Europol Agustín Díaz de Mera (EPP, ES) added that:“The establishment of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group, with representatives of the EP and the national parliaments, increases Europol’s legitimacy, trust, effectiveness and transparency”.

EDHEC Research Day 2009

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 31 marzo 2009

edhecThe third edition of EDHEC Research Day will take place on 16 June 2009 at La Maison de la Chimie in Paris. The major theme is the (re)building of managerial legitimacy. Reform of corporate governance, begun in the 1980s, has transformed the conditions and the rules of executive management. And the current crisis means greater demands of management for responsibility, transparency, and performance. How then, when your profession is changing and your power is more and more likely to be questioned or even contested, to earn the legitimacy to lead a company? The objective of EDHEC Research Day 2009 is not just to review the new expectations and collective representations of management but to recommend to management and other stakeholders concrete practices that will serve to (re)build managerial legitimacy at the top, the determinant of the stability and success of the company. The day will open with a plenary session during which the EDHEC research and development division will lead a debate on the legitimacy of top managers. This debate will take place in the form of a round table discussion and with the participation of such top managers as Richard Simonin, CEO of ETAM, Bertrand Collomb, honorary chairman of Lafarge, Michèle Ferrebeuf, president of Mc Cann, Francis Rousseau, president of Eurogroup, Bertrand Richard, Spencer Stuart practice board associate. This discussion will be moderated by Valérie Petit, professor of management and head of the EDHEC Leadership & Corporate Governance Research Centre. It will be followed by two presentations: one by Stéphane Gregoir, head of the EDHEC Economics Research Centre, on student loans as a means of favouring social progress, and one by Noël Amenc, dean of research and head of the EDHEC Risk and Asset Management Research Centre, on EDHEC’s “research for business” strategy. The day will continue with thematic workshops that will allow the EDHEC research centres to present their latest work in accounting and financial analysis, economics, market finance, management, accounting, and law. In addition, several stream sessions will enable each participant to choose a theme he or she is interested in. (photo edhec)
