Order levels recovering and transformation taking effect

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 11 febbraio 2021

Due to the increasingly tangible successes yielded by the company’s transformation, plus growing demand from China and, since the third quarter, from Europe, too, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is raising its target operating return for financial year 2020/21 as a whole. Consequently, the company anticipates that its EBITDA margin excluding restructuring result will grow to approximately 7 percent, even though the coronavirus pandemic may lead to a sales decline of around EUR 450 million to EUR 500 million compared to the previous year (previous year’s sales: EUR 2,349 million) for the year as a whole. Previously, Heidelberg had anticipated an EBITDA margin that would, at its lowest, equal that of the previous year at 4.3 percent. It is also an encouraging sign for the coming months that print volumes among Heidelberg customers have almost reached the levels of the previous year, with the print volume in the packaging sector even exceeding the previous year’s level.”The successful roll-out of the transformation measures has enabled Heidelberg to achieve a clearly positive operating result, despite the huge pressures caused by COVID-19. When it comes to both our finances and our balance sheet, we have done our homework. Signs of recovery are now emerging on the markets in China and Europe that are important to us. That is why our EBITDA target margin excluding restructuring result is being increased to around 7 percent. The growing interest in our contract business and strong demand for our electromobility charging stations are also grounds to be optimistic about the future,” says Heidelberg CEO Rainer Hundsdörfer, commenting on the developments. Again in the third quarter, the numerous measures of the transformation program launched in March of last year more than compensated for the negative effect on earnings caused by a significant drop in sales due to COVID-19. As a result, after nine months of financial year 2020/21 (April 1 to December 31, 2020), the operating result including effects from the measures that have been implemented was above that of the same period of the previous year.
The sale of the Gallus Group, which did not go ahead at the end of January 2021 despite there being a valid purchase contract, is
clouding the positive picture. However, this is not causing limitations with regard to the results forecast for the current
financial year. CFO Marcus A. Wassenberg explains: “All in all, we have made much faster and more successful progress with our company’s transformation than previously reported. We have raised more than EUR 450 million in liquidity, reduced debt
by approximately EUR 260 million, moved away from loss-makers and will reduce costs by more than EUR 170 million a year on a
sustainable basis. We are therefore confident we will return to attractive profitability in the medium term.” (abstract)

A Star Is Reborn: 50th Anniversary Ford Mustang Bullitt Revives Silver Screen Legend With New Levels of Power

Posted by fidest press agency su martedì, 16 gennaio 2018

Mustang BullittCelebrating the 50th anniversary of iconic movie “Bullitt” and its fan-favorite San Francisco car chase, Ford introduces the new cool and powerful 2019 Mustang Bullitt. Third-generation member of the McQueen family, Molly, starred in a special movie of her own introducing the new third-generation Bullitt at the North American International Auto Show. In the film, Molly races a new Mustang Bullitt through a parking structure battling a Dodge Charger for the final free space.Helping it win that particular spot was the Bullitt’s upgraded 5.0-liter V8 engine that will deliver at least 475 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, pushing the new Bullitt to a top speed of 163 mph – an 8 mph increase versus the latest Mustang GT. As a special-edition model due out this summer – the all-new Mustang Bullitt is equipped with a manual transmission, and the gear shifter features a white cue ball shift knob as a nod to the original. The vehicle packages all Mustang GT Premium and Performance Package content into a vehicle that maintains the original Bullitt’s understated persona. An active valve performance exhaust system is standard with new Black NitroPlate™ exhaust tips, and retuned to give the car a signature burble, as well as new Open Air Induction System and Shelby GT350 intake manifold with 87mm throttle bodies and powertrain control module calibration for optimal performance.Other standard equipment includes a heated leather steering wheel and a 12-inch all-digital LCD instrument cluster, identical in function to the cluster introduced on 2018 Mustang, but with a unique Bullitt welcome screen that starts in green with an image of the car rather than the pony. “This new Bullitt is, as Steve McQueen was, effortlessly cool,” said Darrell Behmer, Mustang chief designer. “As a designer, it’s my favorite Mustang – devoid of stripes, spoilers and badges. It doesn’t need to scream about anything – it’s just cool.”Exterior paint choices are limited to Shadow Black and the classic Dark Highland Green – as worn in the movie. Other features that pay tribute to the car McQueen drove are subtle chrome accents around the grille and front windows, classic torque thrust 19-inch aluminum wheels, red painted Brembo™ brakes, and a unique black front grille. Inside and out, the vehicle uses minimal badging; only the circular faux gas cap Bullitt logo on the rear center is visible on the exterior. The leather-trimmed interior features unique green accent stitching on the dashboard, door panels, center console and seats.Aside from the two exterior paint choices, Mustang Bullitt buyers are limited to three factory-installed options:Bullitt Electronics Package includes navigation, driver memory seats and mirrors, upgraded sound system and Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert that can alert customers of vehicles detected in difficult-to-see places MagneRide® semi-active suspension system optimizes driving performance (photo: Mustang Bullitt)

Europe must rise to the challenges/ L’Europe doit s’élever à la hauteur des défis

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 19 marzo 2016

europeThe 28 Member States of the European Union must rise to the challenges they face in the refugee crisis, in the economic and monetary crisis with its prolonged high levels of youth unemployment, and in the wars and trouble spots in their neighbourhood. None of these challenges can be resolved by one Member State alone; they all urgently require shared solidarity. The current crisis of solidarity which is paralysing Europe therefore needs to be overcome. In these difficult circumstances, the blame game is in full swing. But the situation is too serious for us to waste time on recriminations. We want to look ahead together. We are convinced that the major tasks facing us must not be seen in isolation. Partial solidarity is not an option. Solidarity can only succeed when it takes into account the wider context, and it is only by taking this approach that we will find solutions. In this context, a strong Franco-German partnership and understanding is the foundation on which we can make progress. This appeal co-signed by French and German political and academic actors has been published on the 17 March 2016 in Les Échos, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Financial Times

Greenpeace “delighted” by Dutch court ruling on emissions cuts

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 25 giugno 2015

amsterdamAmsterdam, Greenpeace welcomes the verdict of the Dutch Court in The Hague to order the government to cut CO2 emissions by 25 per cent from 1990 levels by 2020, in response to a legal challenge by the Dutch NGO Urgenda and 900 Dutch citizens. The government was aiming for only 15-17 percent, even though The Netherlands is particularly vulnerable to climate change and rising sea levels. “This is a game-changer in the fight against climate change. The Dutch court ruling is clear: the government has a legal duty to protect its people against the threat of climate change. Litigation against governments who fail to take climate change seriously will spread around the world.” says Faiza Oulahsen of Greenpeace Netherlands. “There is a case being brought in Belgium, and Greenpeace hopes to bring about a similar action in the Philippines, which suffered terribly from Typhoon Haiyan in 2013”. “Today’s verdict of the Dutch court is revolutionary. The implications will be felt for years to come. The Netherlands is not the only country that is failing to take the necessary measures to tackle dangerous climate change. The arguments made in this landmark ruling are applicable to other countries, and in the run-up to the Paris conference, governments around the world should take note of this ruling.”

If target confirmed, Japan would join Russia with an “inadequate” climate pledge, putting world on path to 3-4degC warming – Climate Action Tracker

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 16 aprile 2015

tokyo-japanJapan could be able to meet its (as yet unofficial) 2030 emissions reduction target of 20% below 2013 levels by 2030 without having to implement any new policies, the Climate Action Tracker said today. The target, released late last week to Japanese media, but not yet officially announced, would represent an emissions reduction of 11 percent below 1990 levels in 2030—far from the Japanese Government’s stated aim of moving to a low carbon economy. Adding forest management would bring that back to 8 percent. [Full Japan assessment here]Under its new and comprehensive methodology for tracking the fairness of Government action on climate change, the CAT has assessed this draft as “inadequate”: if all countries adopted this level of ambition warming would likely exceed 3-4degC in the 21st century. Japan would be making even less effort than any of the governments who have so far submitted their planned climate action for a Paris agreement—INDCs—except Russia, which the CAT has also rated “inadequate.”
“If Japan confirms this target, it will be adopting a strategy that is incompatible with its economic capability and responsibility, which is worrying for such a big emitter. We had no choice but to rate this target as inadequate – totally inadequate,” said Niklas Höhne, of NewClimate Institute.“Japan has stated it is committed to moving to a low carbon economy, but with this kind of target, coupled with its planned expansion of base load from coal, Japan is likely to recarbonise its economy—the reverse of what it needs, and, if followed by others, would lead to 3-4degC warming this century,” said Bill Hare of Climate Analytics. Kornelis Blok, of Ecofys, added: “Japan is missing a golden opportunity to join the transition to a low carbon economy to the detriment of Japan’s high tech industry and entrepreneurs. A more ambitious climate goal could catalyse the required policy changes to make this transition a reality and create major new economic opportunities for Japan.“The CAT has rated the EU, US, Norway, Switzerland and Mexico’s INDCs all as “medium”—but even medium means others would have to take comparably more effort in order to hold warming below the agreed limit of 2degC.In its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC), Russia proposes to reduce its emissions of net greenhouse gases (GHG) by 25 percent to 30 percent below 1990 levels by 2030. After accounting for forestry this is a reduction of industrial GHG’s (1) by only 6 percent to 11 percent below 1990 levels, and an increase of 30 percent to 38 percent compared to 2012 levels.
“Russia’s proposed commitment for 2030 would allow emissions of industrial greenhouse gases to grow significantly—to around 3 GtC02e in 2030. To achieve its proposed target, Russia needs to take no further action other than its currently implemented policies,” said Yvonne Deng, of Ecofys.Russia states in its INDC that “Reducing GHG emissions by 25–30 percent from 1990 levels by 2030 will allow the Russian Federation to step on the path of low-carbon development compatible with the long-term objective of the increase in global temperature below 2 degrees Celsius.” However, the CAT assessment shows than neither Russia’s 2020 pledge nor its INDC are in line with interpretations of a “fair” approach to reach a 2°C pathway. Russia’s long-term target is also “inadequate”: it is consistent with only one category of fairness that focuses on capability, which is an outlier category. To be on track for its long-term target, also rated “inadequate,” Russia’s emissions would need to peak and start declining at much higher rates of reduction post-2020.
Russia has been unclear in the way it deals with forestry accounting. While it has stated that the target will use “the maximum possible account of absorbing capacity of forests,” it does not provide any further information on which accounting rules it has used, nor the potential magnitude of their impact on emissions levels in 2030. With its 2020 target submitted under the Copenhagen Accord, Russia did not mention forestry accounting, but given that it has now done so in its INDC, we have added an assessment of the impact of LULUCF accounting to our assessment of Russia’s 2020 target.

Ministers decide on fishing catch limits for 2015

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 19 dicembre 2014

VellaEU Ministers have reached agreement on fishing opportunities for 2015 in the Atlantic, North Sea and Black Sea following lengthy discussion at the Agriculture and Fisheries Council on the 15th and 16th December. Karmenu Vella, the EU’s Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, presented the Commission’s proposals based for the first time on the new Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) which aims to have all stocks fished at sustainable levels.
Reacting to the agreement, Commissioner Vella said: “The CFP has passed its first real test with the unanimous support of all of the Member States. We have succeeded in increasing the number of stocks that are now managed at sustainable levels and sustainably managed stocks are now a broadly accepted concept”. The new CFP establishes that decision-making such as fixing fishing opportunities must be guided, among others things, by scientific advice. Furthermore, the new CFP aims to restore and maintain a maximum sustainable yield (MSY) of the fish stocks and provides for a progressive elimination of discards in all EU fisheries through the introduction of an obligation to land all catches.
Ministers also discussed the state of play of discussions between the European Parliament and Council on the implementation of the landing obligation which comes into force gradually from 1st January 2015. (european union)

Berlino.
The MultiLevel vehicles feature upper and lower seating levels as well as a spacious intermediate level at each end of the car — making them truly “multi-level” — and offer high levels of capacity, comfort and convenience. Each coach has 15 to 30 percent more seating capacity than a typical single-level car, yet is specially designed to meet the infrastructure constraints of certain rail networks, such as those posed by tunnels. Comfort features include a two-by-two seating configuration that eliminates the middle seat found on many single-level vehicles, specially designed seats with improved lumbar support, and more leg room, knee room and seat width than found in conventional coaches. Large side doors located at the intermediate level provide accessib ility from both high and low level platforms. Bombardier is also providing MultiLevel vehicles for Montreal’s commuter rail lines. Specially-configured versions of the MultiLevel vehicles operate in the Atlantic City Express Service between New York City and Atlantic City.

Japanese Cooking Program Utilizes US Barley

Posted by fidest press agency su sabato, 24 aprile 2010

The heart health claim approval in the United States for specific food barley varieties opens opportunity to increase U.S. exports of food barley to Japan where both traditional consumption of barley food products and increasing health concerns of the aging population already exist. The U.S. Grains Council, the leading export market development organization for corn, barley, sorghum and their co-products, works with the local Japanese industry to show the nutritional characteristics of U.S. food barley and to expand market opportunities for special U.S. food barley varieties that contain high levels of beta-glucan.  This week, Chef Chinami Hamauchi introduced her “Healthy Gyo-za” recipe which includes a U.S. barley product called “Soup-de-taberu-Mugi” on a Japanese TV cooking program titled “Okazu-no-Cooking.” Gyo-za is a popular Japanese fried dumpling recipe passed through generations. Chef Hamauchi explained that the U.S. barley product is rich in beta-glucan and that the Gyo-za, including U.S. barley as a main ingredient, is healthy with 23 percent fewer calories than conventional Gyo-za. Also she mentioned that the barley product is easy to handle, can be preserved after boiling and has a delicious texture characteristic to waxy barley.  After the program was broadcasted, the Council’s Tokyo office received many inquires about the product. The cooking program will be repeatedly broadcasted on nine local TV stations throughout Japan in April and May.

Kyoto negotiations fail to agree on targets

Posted by fidest press agency su mercoledì, 16 dicembre 2009

An informal consultation of environment ministers under the Kyoto Protocol negotiations (AWG-KP) at the Copenhagen climate talks ended today without agreement on new targets under the Protocol. “Environment ministers have today sent a clear signal to developing countries that they have no intention of increasing their greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets in line with what climate science shows is necessary to avert climate catastrophy,” said Martin Kaiser, Climate Policy Advisor with Greenpeace International. “These talks will end in climate disaster unless developed country heads of state like Obama, Sarkozy, Brown and Merkel take control by showing real leadership and commit to strong legally binding targets that achieve at least 40% reductions below 1990 levels.” Apparently, when the German co-facilitator, Environment Minister Norbert Roettgen, asked developed countries for their ideas on how to increase the scale of their emissions targets to within the range of science, the room went completely silent. The current range of developed country pledges add up to, at best, 10%-19% (16%-23% for developed countries that have ratified the Kyoto Protocol), not even half way to the 40% minimum that is needed to avoid dangerous levels of climate change. Absurdly, Japan apparently pleaded to balance the science with politics. “Japan needs to learn that you can’t change the science – it’s the politics that must be changed. What they’re really pleading for is to protect their polluters at the cost of the world’s most vulnerable.”

Sudan faces permanent humanitarian emergency

Posted by fidest press agency su lunedì, 22 giugno 2009

Caritas says that poverty and suffering in Sudan’s Darfur region and in south Sudan are at such high levels there is a permanent humanitarian crisis there.  Catholic Church leaders from Sudan, Caritas members providing support to the vulnerable on the ground, and donors meet 22-23 at Caritas Internationalis Headquarters in the Vatican to discuss how to improve a coordinated humanitarian response. Insecurity both in Darfur and increasingly so in south Sudan risks further destabilizing the region and creating greater levels of suffering, the aid agency warns.  Attending the Caritas meeting next week include Bishop Vincent Mojwok, Chairman of SUDANAID (Caritas Sudan), Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro of Juba, Bishop Eduardo Kussala of Tombura Yambio, H. L. Bishop Antonio Menegazzo of El Obeid (covering Darfur) and Rt. Rev. Daniel Adwok Marco Kur, Auxiliary Bishop of Khartoum. Bishop Eduardo Kussala of Tombura Yambio said, “Sudan faces a lot of challenges. There is an ongoing humanitarian crisis. People don’t have access to healthcare, education, water and protection from high levels of violence.  “Caritas and the Church are the only sources of education, health and social services in many places. The Sudan Partnership Forum meeting aims to create a common strategy for Caritas members and its Church partners so that we deliver aid in the most effective way.”  Malnutrition is at 16 percent in south Sudan. Nine out of ten people in south Sudan live on less than $1 a day. In 2007, south Sudan had the highest maternal mortality rate in the world – with 2,030 women dying per 100,000 births.  A shaky peace holds in the south and half of the 4 million refugees who fled decades of fighting have returned to their homes. However, the number of killings is now believed to have overtaken Darfur.  In Darfur in the west of Sudan, 300,000 people have been killed and 2.7 million uprooted in the ongoing conflict. The humanitarian situation in Darfur is also worsening with 290,000 people fleeing their homes during the first 9 months of 2008.  Caritas in Sudan works in emergency aid, social welfare and development. Caritas continues to operate in Darfur, providing 297,000 people with food, shelter, clean water, healthcare, support for livelihoods, counseling, peace-building activities and education.
