The Meeting of Pope John XXIII and Prof. Jules Isaac

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 5 giugno 2020

Webinar – Thursday, 11 June 2020 11:00 (Philadelphia) / 17:00 (Rome) via ZOOM. The Cardinal Bea Centre for Judaic Studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University together with the Institute for Jewish-Catholic Relations at Saint Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, is pleased to present this webinar programme to conclude our events calendar for the 2019-2020 academic year.
Sixty years ago in Rome, the French educator and historian, Prof. Jules Isaac had a private audience with Pope John XXIII. The Jewish scholar presented a summary of his research into the Christian “teaching of contempt” for Jews and Judaism that had prevailed for centuries. He asked that the pope establish a subcommittee to study the subject in preparation for the upcoming Second Vatican Council. The pope replied, “That is what I have been thinking from the beginning of this meeting!” Their brief conversation led to the composition of the conciliar declaration Nostra Aetate and the birth of a new relationship between Jews and Catholics that has now unfolded for six decades. On this special occasion, we will have the opportunity to hear Dr Mary C. Boys, SNJM, Skinner and McAlpin Professor of Practical Theology at Union Theological Seminary, New York, and Rabbi Dr Irving Greenberg who served for 23 years as a Founding President of CLAL: The National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership and for 10 years as Founding President of the Jewish Life Network/ Steinhardt Foundation. Both will offer first-hand accounts of the impact of this encounter. To participate, pre‑register to receive the web address through the link at the bottom of the SJU page: https://sites.sju.edu/ijcr/remembering-a-momentous-moment/

COVID-19: virtual meeting multidisciplinare per condividere strategie e pratiche cliniche

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 16 aprile 2020

Origgio. Grande meeting multidisciplinare italiano, organizzato in modalità virtuale, dedicato all’emergenza COVID-19.

Ottavo International Meeting

Posted by fidest press agency su domenica, 2 febbraio 2020

61st ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition

Posted by fidest press agency su giovedì, 12 dicembre 2019

Bio, Inc. (Nasdaq: BLUE) announced new data from its ongoing Phase 1/2 HGB-206 study of investigational LentiGlobin™ gene therapy for sickle cell disease (SCD), including additional patients treated in the study and updated data for those previously reported. These data, as well as results from exploratory assays designed to assess the relationship between drug product characteristics and red blood cell physiology, were presented at the 61st American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting and Exposition in Orlando, Florida. SCD is a serious, progressive and debilitating genetic disease caused by a mutation in the β-globin gene that leads to the production of abnormal sickle hemoglobin (HbS), causing red blood cells (RBCs) to become sickled and fragile, resulting in chronic hemolytic anemia, vasculopathy and painful vaso-occlusive crises (VOCs). For adults and children living with SCD, this means unpredictable episodes of excruciating pain due to vaso-occlusion as well as other acute complications—such as acute chest syndrome (ACS), stroke and infections, which can contribute to early mortality in these patients. LentiGlobin for SCD was designed to add functional copies of a modified form of the β-globin gene (βA-T87Q-globin gene) into a patient’s own hematopoietic (blood) stem cells (HSCs). Once patients have the βA-T87Q-globin gene, their RBCs can produce anti-sickling hemoglobin that decreases the proportion of sickled hemoglobin, with the goal of reducing sickled RBCs, hemolysis and other complications.

American Society for Human Genetics 2019 Annual Meeting

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 18 ottobre 2019

Twist Bioscience Corporation (NASDAQ: TWST), a company enabling customers to succeed through its offering of high-quality synthetic DNA using its silicon platform, announced the presentation of new customer, company and collaborator data using the Twist Bioscience target enrichment and library preparation products for next-generation sequencing (NGS). In addition, Twist Bioscience will showcase the results of adding formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) and saliva sample preparation workflows with its NGS products, resulting in uniform sequence coverage of the target area of interest within the genome.
The company also released new data combining sample preparation solutions integrated with the Twist Bioscience library preparation and target enrichment workflow, as well as a new fixed custom panel to conduct target enrichment of the mitochondrial DNA. Library construction for NGS using FFPE samples offers unique challenges in acquiring high-quality sequencing data due to wide distribution of sample quality. Differences in formalin fixation methods, storage conditions, and age lead to crosslinked and/or degraded nucleic acid and inconsistent extraction yields. Therefore, FFPE extraction and library construction methods must be carefully considered for target enrichment applications. In collaboration, Covaris and Twist Bioscience demonstrate a complete library preparation and target enrichment solution that generates ready-to-sequence multiplexed libraries directly from FFPE tissue of various qualities. Specifically, the truXTRAC kit and adaptive focused acoustics (AFA) technology from Covaris generate size specific DNA libraries from FFPE samples that, when paired with Twist Bioscience’s Library Preparation and Human Core Exome Kit, deliver multiplexed libraries for high performance targeted sequencing.

Berg MEP to European Council on discussion on Turkey EU-Membership

Posted by fidest press agency su venerdì, 18 ottobre 2019

Ahead of the meeting of the European Council this Thursday and Friday in Brussels, German MEP Lars Patrick Berg has demanded that the EU finally terminate all negotiations regarding Turkey’s accession to the EU.Mr Berg argued that Turkey was not a European country, and does not act in accordance with European values. “I am co-sponsoring a resolution in the EU-Parliament condemning Turkey’s brutal action in northern Syria. Turkey is behaving like a rogue state, undermining security and acting as a friend to terrorism”.”Serious concerns have been raised that Turkey’s actions will enable ISIS to re-establish itself in the region, and with Turkey’s threat to open the gates to even greater migration into Europe from Turkey there is concern that extremists will find their way to Europe with Turkish support.”“German interests are opposite to those of Erdogan’s regime” stated Berg. “The sooner we in Europe confront Turkey’s destabilising policies the sooner we will have a safer Europe. I hope next week the Member States will agree that Turkey needs to be isolated”.
